Outrider,
I've been trying to talk the Father-In-Law in to, well, giving me like 3 acres out in Genesse, out of the 12 acres he has. THEN I could build a *REAL* friggin garage : )

For anyone who has been living under a rock the last couple weeks, check out the Belle City thread here in storm fronts. Hopefully a little meeting next week.

I could always explain to the wife that her car will be fine outside for the winter.....what does remote starter cost??? $200? Don't think it would go over well.

I am actually trying to keep my bike in my garage for a change. I usually store it in a friends 8 car, but that limits the tinkering that I can do!!!

Those remote starters are AWESOME! I've got one on my truck, and the wife's mini-van. I've got A LOT of tinkering to do this winter on my S3. I'm determined to beat my Nephew on his GSXR600 in drag races : )

He did a 9.99 on the dyno drag, to my 10.98. A set of 536 cams, some ported XB heads, and MAYBE an 88" kit should do the trick : ) But doing this all in an overly packed 10x12 shed may be challenging. I may pull the motor out next weekend and do it all down in the basement. Oh how I long for a real garage!

Yeah the remote starters do rock. We had one on my wifes previous car. I am tempted to buy a cheap one for my truck (has never been garaged) and one for whatever vehicle we get the wife in the next month.

Anyone have any horrid stories about the new Explorer's????

Steve, how big is your lot? Big enough to add a garage? Get a foundation poured and the rest can be put up in a weekend! I would be willing to help out......as long as I could mooch some help everyone now and then with the bike.

Kinger,
Drove a 2004 Explorer for 3 weeks during my vacation. Wonderful vehicle. Very solid handling for a "truck". Great brakes, etc.. The only problem I had, was crappy MPG. Best I ever got was 19-20. I got BETTER than that when I owned a 1992 Explorer. I've gotten up to 25 MPG with that one on road trips.

Building a garage. It may be possible, and become a reality this spring. That is, if my tax return is large enough. I need to do the roof on the house too this spring. But I will take you up on the help with the garage this spring : )

And, if you *EVER* need help with a bike. My brother is probably one of the most mechanicaly inclined people I've ever known. And has been working on HDs since the 70s. Hell, he used to build the XR750s when he did work at the factory in the 70s : )

He's a handy guy to have around. And more than willing to help. We also have most of the tools to completely disassemble, and re-assemble the bikes, including the special clutch tool and such(which is available to anyone here if they ever need it).

On another note: Anyone interested in maybe a "powerbuy" on a Chatterbox GMRS or FRS radio? I think it would be cool to be able to communicate with the group, on rides... My brother, the wife and I are most likely going to each pick one up this winter.

Steve...Make that building too big out in Genesee and you may end up a Buell Dealer. Well, at least a seller of Used Buells.

Outrider,

I'd love to. But unfortunately, the town of Genesee wont allow it, until a house is up 1st. We tried to get them to allow us to build a barn or some sorts to store building materials in(slowly buy building materials, when they are on sale and such), but they wouldn't allow it.

Steve...Ahem...The house could be multi-purpose. You know, home for the family, club house, office, flop house for visiting Bueller's to shower and shave in, yadda yadda yadda.

Then again, I trust none of this is legal in reference to the local land use and building codes, but it does make for a nice fantasy. LOL

Steve, I will keep the offer in mind about the work. I have learned a lot since buying my buell. I had 2 hondas before that I never touched. Didn't even change my own oil. Funny thing I think I went the first season without changing it (6500 miles). No problems.

If you need help with a garage or the roof let me know. I am willing to help out. Just did my garage roof (pretty small) two years ago.

The Chatterbox thing I have thought about for a while. I also have had a chance to look at Coolice's Autcom. He can hook up mp3, cell phone and gps. All with two speakers in his helmet and a mic. I cord between you and a tank bag. Check out http://www.autocomamerica.com/docs/home.cfm Keep me posted on this one!

We had the same impressions of the Explorer as well. We have rented them on vacation twice since the new style came out. Not too concerned about the gas mileage. I know it won't get in the high 20's like the Jetta that my wife drives now. But it is time for more space!!! Looking at getting an 02 pretty loaded with the V8 and a tow package, because you never know.....Anyone want to buy a Jetta?

Seems like the mileage for a lot of vehicles is stuck right at the 20mpg mark. My Equinox is listed as 19 city 25 highway.........LOL, no way in hell. 5000 miles on it so far & the best I have gotten was 22.5 for 1 tank. Otherwise its usually in the 19.5 mpg range.

May go up once it gets broken in tho, both my Tracker & my old Dodge Shadow did. They hit 50,000 miles & the mileage jumped up close to 5 mpg on both vehicles.

My daughter bought a new Equinox a few months ago and she regularly gets 25-26 mpg on the highway. Her's is not AWD though.

I have the AWD but I cant see where that would suckup that amount of mileage since it doesnt kick in unless the system detects wheel slippage.
Otherwise in normal conditions its just your average front wheel drive.

"I have the AWD but I cant see where that would suckup that amount of mileage"

My daughter was told mileage would not very if she got an AWD. Does AWD mean different tires and gearing? I don't know. That could effect mpg. the daughter is a very easy going driver and the gas pedal never sees the floor.

Kinger, I priced out an Autocom over the weekend...
Wow, they ain't cheap : )

The autocom does have the advantage of just one cable up to the headset. But damn, it's expensive.

I thought the Autocom got a little pricey as well when you started adding the necessity's for bike to bike. Any ideas on what a group buy discount would be on the Chatterbox.

I am hoping that some of these companies will be at the IMS in Chicago in February.

chatter box was there two years ago -- didn't notice them last year -- I"m considering a couple of units for the bomber motor pool --

most rational install I've seen is with the unit in a tank bag -- never liked the idea of that box sitting on the outside of my helmet, although I'll admit I've never tried one

Group pricing I got on the GMRS(around double the distance of an FRS unit) version of the Chatterbox is $210 each + $15 shipping, if all shipped to one address from these guys.

http://www.motoemporium.com/chatterbox/chatterbox.html

That's a complete bike to bike solution, no external radio needed. The only problem *I* see with the chatterbox, is the box itself attatches to your helmet, and if you want a Cell phone + audio added it would be more cables running up to your helmet. But I do see there is a "belt clip" adapter. So maybe it doesn't have to mount TO your helmet.

The autocom is more flexible, but quite a bit more expensive. Lets hope they are both at IMS, so we can check 'em both out.

It would be nice for group rides for at least the leader, and the "sweeper" to have a unit such as the chatterbox or Autocom.

Steve...How many units needed to be purchased for that price? Looking at the site, it looks like about $30 off list price. Not too bad.

I have visions of a tank bag mounted (velcroed)board with my Chatterbox and MP3 player. This could be a nice set-up with some proper wiring and the ability to lock it in the saddlebag at a stop. Very convenient!!

I have really grown to having music in my helmet this year.

It's either that, or we could maybe get Hals or Daves to handle something like this for us, direct from the factory maybe? Let someone we know, and someone that supports Buells get the profit : )

But yes, I *am* getting either a chatterbox or a Autocom unit by the next riding season... Just from the wife, my brother and I, we have 3 units, so I'm betting 20 WOULDN'T be out of the question from the badweb people.

I went to Hals last week for Lazers block to rock hunger thingy, and donated a saddlebag overfilled with canned food. Guess what? Lazer called and said I won a pair of tickets to Trans-Siberian orchastra christmas show next Thursday. It's a show my wife has been wanting to see for years : )

Well, ya think Brag Corporate will approve of this? Yeah, I know, there's no color or anything. I converted KOZ's adobe illustrator file to an Autocad DXF, imported it into my Cad/Cam system and did some work where I'm more efficient : )

Another reason for using my Cad/Cam program, is so I can convert the polylines/splines that Illustrator uses into more efficient entities so I can machine up some timing covers, if anyone wants one : )
