That is really sad news. Just caught the rest of your posts on the Uke's thread. Looks like he will have a better idea of what his options are Monday.

Tell Tom I wish him all the best in this unforeseen incident.

He will have another bike some day, maybe not a Buell for lack of a sport-tour bike, but he will have another bike, even if I have to get it for him. (Though that route will take some time.)

Jonathan, keep us posted as to what happens next and how/when he will get home.

Who was he riding with? Are they able to help or did he just tell them to go on.

Wonder what the chances are of getting a used motor installed that he can have rebuilt to his specifications when he gets home?

Was riding alone I think. I wanted to come along, but could not afford the time off of work. I would like to find out what a replacement motor would cost. I want him to have a bike. Any ideas what a engine runs?

None. A new one from HD/BMC would be the best route if their is a local shop that can install it for him. Next to that, I would shop the salvage yards. Both in Canada and the NE US. Perhaps someone Dyna knows in American Thunder could help out in sourcing an engine. Perhaps even Newfie or Crusty.

Wow...Just found Gagetown, NB on the map. 1533.57 miles and/or 25.53 hours from Milwaukee via New England per MapQuest. No clue what the surrounding business environment is up there.

Hope BRAG/HOG can help. Am sure they can. Just have no clue what there responses will be.

Jonathin...Does Tom belong to AMA? If he does, they have discounts on palletized shipping of bikes. HOG/BRAG may be able to steer him towards these carriers as well.

Might take 2-6 weeks to get it back, but it may be worth it. Another option is renting a Uhaul or equivalent. Pick up with Tie Downs might work. Clueless about getting it over the border. If registration doesn't work, you may have to Fed Ex him his Title.

Perhaps Spidy can arrange to meet him on the Toronto side of the river with another One Way Uhaul rental. Assuming his first would be one way in Canada and the second would be one way in the US. I sort of doubt if you are going to be able to go One Way from GageTown, NB to Milwaukee, WI. Make sense???

Regarding the Uhaul, same would apply at any border town where he can turn in the truck and be picked up by someone from the US with another. Just need to find someone that can meet him in Canada.

Don't forget the Title thing, I don't know if it will be a problem, but you may want to discuss it with Tom.

Last suggestion...If you or someone you know has a truck or a vehicle with a motorcycle trailer and can get insurance coverage for a third party to drive up and get Tom and his bike, I have the time this week to do it.

Can leave Monday and would like to be back by Friday. Note: I am volunteering time, not gas money. I would expect to be reimbursed asap for vehicle expenses. I can sleep in the truck or camp cheap on my dime.

OK,

Mike's Van and Trailer is in Fort Ann, NY at the Harley Davidsion Retailer.

If Thomas can get there he can take the van, go collect the bike then meet Mike somewhere along the way. They will be leaving Newfoundland Possibly Wednesday but definately by Thursday.

If we can co-ordinate this should not be a problem.

Here is a picture of a Map from Gagetown, NB to Fort Ann.

Another possiblity....

Get the bike to Montreal. Then ship via Forward Air to Milwaukee. The cost to ship is $391. You can fly 1 way from Montreal to Milwaukee for about $200.

Just a thought.

Newfie, Lake...Thanks for the input. I assume Doughnut (Jonathan) is coordinating everything for Tom.

Lake...Does Forward Air operate in the US? I sure would love to get my bike to So Cal in short order. Most likely would store it there at a friends house for vacations this winter. Just don't want to have it hanging on some truck for weeks in the hot summer.

Sure would like to see some pics of Gagetown, NB. All MapQuest showed was an intersection of two highways which conjured up all sorts of "Lost in the Woods" dreams last night. LOL

Nev...check their website. They seem to have cornered the market on motorcycle shipping. Their specially designed crates seem to make shipping a breeze. And their prices seem very reasonable.

I was going to use them to ship my S1 chassis and parts from Texas. In the long run, it would have save me a few $$$ (a friend lost the gas tank en route to Wisconsin).

Bill,
Give these guys a call, drop the bike off at Hal's, have someone pick it up on the other end. Less expensive if it ships business loading dock to business loading dock, but the can do street-side pickups or delivery as well (if they still do that like when I shipped mine).

Doughnut...In thinking the engine thing through, Tom can probably just buy another used Buell and swap engines if he wants to. He will end up with plenty of spare parts to last a lifetime. Plus he can sell the extra parts on Ebay and the Buell Boards. Most likely the most economical way to go!

Used engines seem to go for between $2000-$3000, or usually around $2,500.

Mike...Gagetown looks like the kind of place I would love to be. Looks like in the haste last evening I didn't search hard enough. Was more concerned with where it is and how to get there.

Now you have me laughing. Remember last year when Tom changed the color of his hair to match the "party?" Can't help wonder what color it is for the Newfie Trip. Can you imagine walking around Gagetown with Buell Blue hair. LOL

Sorry Tom. Not a cheap shot, just a humorous anecdote.

Still wouldn't mind driving up to get Tom. Gotta truck I can borrow? Figured out of everyone we know, I am the only one with no specific schedule which would put me in the best position to make the run if needed.

I've got a pickup, but it would probably not get farther than the UP in it's current state of condition. Might make it to GreenBay or Peshtigo on a good day. At the Canadian border they would probably see it coming and lock the gate closed.

Just stop in a W&S and get a bike rack and bring him home in the Miyata. : )

Mike...Where would one go for a used engine? Do they come with some form of warranty? Not that used bikes do, but at least you can take it for a test ride.

Just wondering what I would do if I found myself in Tom's position. Consider this an exercise in Contingency Planning.

Ebay, local wrecking yards, friendly local dealerships, BadWeb ; ) , my garage if the price is right : ) . Some shops will work the dealer/insurance auctions for you if you find the right person to ask.

Cute...then the Miata would wheelie all the way home! LMAO

Actually, there is a trailer hitch available for it, but it is designed for a light weight trailer like you see behind Gold Wings, etc. Plus, I can't install it with the aftermarket exhaust system I installed on it.

Mike...Those are some interesting sources. I would probably go for the latter as I would need someone to install it for me.

Last resort would be your garage. I've seen you ride and you engine is probably all carboned up.

Yeah, that's probably why Wileyco partially disallowed my warranty exchange, packing blown out due to low throttle usage.

I still need to open up the old one to see just how much material is left in there.

Well, it is hard for me to imagine either of us, Bomber too, breaking or messing up an engine as none of us really use the entire rev range.

I found redline on my X1 a few times when I first bought it, but didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that riding between 2,700 and 4,500 RPM's in the twisties produces more than ample power.

Heck, the only time I am over 4,000 is when there is a longer straight between turns and I don't want to upshift for that short a distance.

Yep, Wileyco sure must be having their share of problems with you Buell Hot Rodders. Glad I bought a nice cheap mellow sounding V&H. Not to mention, it's backed by a US Company. LOL
