Coolice, You volunteering to be our instructor?  I'd *REALLY* like to take some sort of track class in the spring. But according to Daves, "learning curves" isn't really what it used to be. I'm still a bit leery of fast corners and such. | ||

www.sporttour.com Dan, click the link above, I got my tailbag there for around $49, the Cortech Sport Tailbag, and I also got the saddlebags, but rarely use them. There's no tax and about $8 shipping and I got them in about a week. They also have tankbags, while I agree that Buell tank and tail bags are good, they are more expensive, and I'm perfectly happy with what I got !! Next spring OK? OK !!  | ||

Kinger, Lets talk about that at the next meeting, and see how many people we could get to go. The only problem is the need for full leathers, a decent bike stand(since you have to remove your kickstand), and 80% tread on your tires. The tire thing shouldn't be a problem for me, since I need tires 1st thing next season anyhow. And, my bike came with a pair of Dunlop 208GPs that have a single track day on 'em. Not sure the condition(never looked close enough at 'em). I've also found a couple of places on ebay that sell full custom fit racing suits fairly inexpensively... Learning curves never required a full leather suit. Joe Rocket Cordura type gear has always been fine unless you wanted to actually race. For schools & track days its never been required. BTW...never have been all that impressed with learning curves, the guys are decent enough but there really isnt a whole lot of schooling. | ||

I agree, sounds good that we all go one time or two as a group !! I hope it's true we don't have to have full leathers, I would rather wear the Joe Rocket Cordura type gear !! Thats the point CJ, it is basically nothing. You will learn more following me thru the Kettle then you would dealing with the Learning Curves folks. If you just want to beat on your bike for the day & not really learn anything, then its fine. But there are some great schools out there..like Pridmores or Penguin that they actually teach you & will critique you. Not just tell everyone they are doing great even when a lot of em suck. | ||

Steve, I was hoping to get by with my Joe Rocket pants and my First Gear jacket (they zip together). Cost is a concern for me as well. I need new tires in the spring as well. Dyna, Thanks for your input regarding learning curves. Knowing that you we have a lot of Track Day "Newbies", do you feel that the one's put on by Sean (The guy that dave uses all the time) are better? More instructional? Or am I looking into this too far, and these days are more of an opportunity to just see what you and your bike can do on your own (with help available)? Also Dyna, are the heated grips you put on the R1, as easy to install as they look? It looks like I could just run the wire under my tank bag to my battery connection? Sound right? Man I am full of questions today! | ||

I found the learning curves guys helpful when I asked for help -- agreed that they stay out of the way unless they are asked, but, my experince is that they DO help when asked YMMV, of course | ||

Bomber they do help if you ask, but I just never really cared for the "we are so good & we know this track so well" type attitude towards new riders. Then you get his group of pros including Bilansky out on the track & they come screaming by on the inside & make you feel like you truly are worthless. I would rather have them come out & set the pace & ride just a touch faster then the new riders so they could see the proper lines to take. Instead it seems like they get bored after the first 2 laps & then just want to play. Aaron, Seans track days for myself were more of a do it myself type deal. But he is very approachable & has a staff thats more then willing to help. They also ride quite a bit with the new track riders & offer helpful critiquing of their riding style. In my own opinion, I think a new rider could gain more by working with Seans group. Also yes the grips install in a couple minutes. Hook up the leads to the battery..just like a battery tender deal & then velcro the wraps onto your grips. I tucked the cord along the tank where a cover meets it. | ||

PS..of the 2 groups you definately get a lot more riding time in with Seans. I would be willing to say the amount of seat time could almost be doubled. | ||

Track days come in a number of varieties -- some are, here's the track, we'll not stop you unless you look like you're gonna hurt yourself or someone else -- I'd put Learning Curves in that category -- other track days do more teaching -- I've not been to any of Sean's, so I can't comment on them learning is good, no matter how it take place -- like any purchase, research pays off big time | ||

I have rode at Road America 6 years, two days each year to do Reg Pridmore's CLASS school. I will encourage everyone to take it. They run a very organized day. If you don't learn something, well... Reg has at least 4 instructors on the track with you. They follow you and may pass you and signal you to go to the pits. Then suggestions and how/why you should change what you are doing. Reg also has a camera bike fitted with front/rear camera's and audio that he talks and critiques riders as he follows and circulates in traffic. And if you ask for help, you get it. And CLASS does NOT tolerate riders that do not listen. They take the keys out of the bike and tell you to load up! So next June at Road America, Monday and Tuesday CLASS is there. Pre-register online ASAP cause the school always fills up quick. Oh ya one more thing, I get 10% off my cycle insurance thanks to Reg Pridmore CLASS School! School being the key word. So sign up soon!  Oh being a school you are required to be in the classroom when your not on the track, lots of good info is shared there. | ||

I didnt see any spot on Reg's site for next years classes. Only the rest of this years. Gotta link? Oh yea, just so nobody is suprised. Pridmores 2 day class is rather pricey, but its well worth it. | ||

Dyna you can do 1 day if you want. I have always done both cause the first day you are just getting comfortable and for most riders the more time spent practicing the better. And the 2nd day everyone who was there Monday is really getting smooth. Oh ya the straightaway speeds don't worry about that, CLASS sets up rules so if you don't want to run 100+ just stay on the inside on the front straight and the faster riders go on the outside. Besides the curves after turn 5 is were the Buells do their thing best. Classrides.com is the website. The dates for next year don't go up until late Nov. or early Dec. | ||

I think Reg may be the guy who was at Uke's this year Buell homecoming doing the Battletrax ?? If so, he and I didn't get along at all, not sure he wouldn't run me off the track with his bike if he could, maybe I better try something else !! Not him...wrong Reg. Reg Kitrelle runs battletrax. Reg Pridmore runs Class. Although I think Kitrelle has attended at least 1 if not more of Pridmores schools. | ||

This is all great information guys. Thanks for all of your input. While the Pridmore CLASS sounds outstanding, I can't quite afford dropping $700+ on a two day event at this time. As I was reading the Pridmore site, they were talking about books to read. Any recommendations? I am getting ready for winter, but not until after I take my bike to MI this weekend. | ||
