no problems wiht my wileyco (knock wood)

V&H cracked the first track day (of course, banging into the rev limiter all the way down the straight likely didn't help!)

actually, thinks start getting fun at 5 (but only on some sweepers where I can see more than 20 feet ahead of me, not like on Road X or piper or hogsback)

Bomber,
Keep an eye on the packing material, not sure what the replacement interval is (somewhere between 1k-9k I suppose). I was told when it starts to get blown out the can develops a rattle vibration which leads to broken bits. The newer style of can coupled with the newer y-mount, and most likely coupled with the extra bracketry like you have, probably negate much of the issue.

One of my winter/spring projects will be to de-pack-but-still-baffle the old/broken muffler. Got an old boater trick up my sleeve that may or may not work.

Mike

I'll add it to the list of winter projects . . . . "This Old Buell" coming to a PBS affiliate near you!

Too funny. Can I get a seat in the "Live Studio Audience?" I just want to sit back, drink scotch and be the obnoxious heckler.

Mike...Thanks for the tip. Think I will repack mine this winter as well. I have the newer V&H and it is still mellow sounding but the packing does singe and settle. Makes me think that paying for the upgrade to the new muffler mount was a good investment.

Have to admit the V&H packing has lasted much longer than my old SuperTrapp. The packing was gone in that thing in under 3,000 miles and did it ever bark on my KLR. Whereas, the V&H is still mellow after 10,000 miles and I don't have to clean filthy disks and the seized screws that hold the disks on.

Tom has now joined the not so exclusive club of the "hitching Buellers". At least my truck was a short 65 mile hitch hike away.

Could make for a nice sales pitch thru Ford considering their connection with HD...imagine a Buell commericial & all it shows is an F150 & the words below it read..."Buellers dont leave home without it"

Mikej,
Yeah, that's probably why Wileyco partially disallowed my warranty exchange, packing blown out due to low throttle usage.

I still need to open up the old one to see just how much material is left in there.

I had 6000 miles on my first Wylico and it barely even looked dirty inside? (front mount broke). I took pictures of the front mount and Wylico sent me a new updated system for shipping costs only.

Dyna... It's not nice to pick on us Buellers.

Bomber... Yep, wouldn't blame you one bit for launching one in my direction.

Lake... Will commit to a definite maybe. Don't really know anything north of Holy Hill.

Rode between Slinger and the Elkhart Lake area a few times a couple years ago. Know that DaveS is looking for a place we can use as a hangout/meeting place for future day rides that is easily accessible from Bombers location to yours.

Let me know where you want to meet and ride as well as the times. Will let you know tomorrow afternoon. Dang, now I have to dig out the Buell and it was safely stored behind the lawn mowers and snow blowers. LOL

FYI, Got your phone call. Good suggestion. I assume Tom has everything under control. I believe Newfie meant that is IaMike's van and trailer in NY. If so, Tom has a free ride home.

Incidentally, Doughnut is handling all the details on this end and I know as much (er, as little) as the rest of you.

Koz...How did you and Bernie do at the Milwaukee Rally? Have to admit that Sporty is really looking slick!

Can't wait to see what you are going to do to it next, but I have the feeling you may be running out of "available canvas." Just might have to get that Road King you've been wanting and write it off as a Business expense.

Dull and the AMF (S3-T) will have a U-haul on tuesday. Thanks all for the help and support. Now Dull and I get to learn how to install a motor.

Dumb Question...What do you mean by AMF. American Machine and Foundry (AMF) was long gone by the time Dull's Bike was built. Ergo, it must be an inside joke I am missing, eh?

I have named Dull's bike AMF for its lack of oil holding ability.

Having owned a 1980 AMF Wide Glide, I understand that completely and indeed find humor in it.

Seems that bike had a propensity for dying on the side of the road rather than living either on the road or in my garage. Yet, just like a dumb dog, every time it came home, it had to mark its spot. LOL

Is that what the Buell in my garage is for? Going to try my first repair in a few days. Replacing the primary gasket.

Before you all start shopping for motors why don't you take the old one apart to see what actually got damaged, usually just the rear piston gets hot and starts making hellish noises.Used motors are about 1800 and up so repairing the old one is usually way cheaper(unless you take out an engine in as spectacular a fashion as I do)even if it needs a rod its still not very expensive, and sounds like a good excuse for a 1250 kit.

koz,
I sent pics as well. Mine wound up being just under $100 including shipping. Better than retail. I haven't opened it up yet since the break. I did have it open once before with about 8,000 miles on it and the packing looked fine at that time.
No matter, got the new one in the garage still in the box, just need the time to install it now. Should have it on by December or so.

Nev...give me a shout on my cell this afternoon. I'm not sure about a time or place yet.

My riding partner is experiencing some technical difficulties. I'm guessing from the sound of the problem that it's either a bad battery or bad voltage regulator. Both are an easy fix.

Cell: 920-737-8020.
