Hello Fellow Buellers and Buellerettes,

We will be having our “Around the Lakes Tour” this Sunday August 8th, lead by our very own Gerry Dolphin.. If you plan on going let me know so I can give Gerry a head count. Please meet at Hal’s at 10:00a.m. with a full tank. Kickstands up at 10:30a.m. For those of you wondering what lakes? The lakes of western Waukesha county.

We will also be having our August meeting on Thursday August 12th at 7:00p.m. at Hal’s. We will be discussing upcoming September rides and the “Slimy Crud” run. Also on the agenda will be information and discussion of possibly putting together a blood drive at the dealership with the Blood Center of Southeast Wisconsin. Who knows, we may be donating to ourselves in the future. Also please bring or send any write-ups or pictures to Sharon Geer, sharon.geer@halshd.com. Sharon is the wonderful person who helps us put our newsletter together and helps us put together events at the dealership like the Homecoming Breakfast.

And for those of you who where able to help out with the Buell Demos at the Milwaukee Rally, thank you. That also includes family members of Brew City riders that also helped out. I was able to help out on Friday night and part of Saturday afternoon. I had an absolute blast, pun intended. I was like a kid in a candy store with so many bikes to choose from. If we ever have the opportunity to help out with the Buell Demos again, try it. It’s a ton of fun.

Ride safe and as always enjoy the ride,

Jerry

I would love the chance to get out for a ride, but we are out of town the next two weekends.

Glad to hear that the demo rides went well. I still need to ride a 12!

I would volunteer to lead a group from brew city up to Daves Sportbike Day on the 21st. I will mention this again at the meeting as well as the group that will be meeting at Hal's on the 14th for the House on the ROck. Dyna, was that meet at 9:30 or kickstands up at 9:30??

Demo days were fun, I got to trail and actually lead a couple too !! Blastin was there on Saturday, Dave and the new guy Erik on Sunday !! There were others I didn't know, but it was all fun and I enjoyed meeting everyone !!

Glad to read the Demo Rides went well at the Milwaukee Rally.

I think that will be the last rally I take Di to. Man, two whole days of shopping. Felt like I was in a mall the week before Xmas. She filled the T-Bag two days in a row and still had to wear and carry the overflow. Whew, glad it wasn't (all) my money. LMAO

Talked to Dull a little tonight. He said that it seized on him while driving on the express-way. Suspects that the leak is around the area of the shifter arm.

"leak is around the area of the shifter arm."

That doesn't make sense to me There isn't anyplace for the motor oil to leak in that area. I could see a tranny problem (primary leak causing the tranny to seize?).

I could see how he could think it's out of oil. My bikes show little to no oil on the dip stick unless the bike is running.

Maybe the problem isn't as bad as it first appeared (or maybe I'm full of )

If his main seal blew it could have filled the primary, but then it should have come out the overflow tube out the back. But yep, we'll have to wait for the post mortem. But like you said it might not be so bad, time will tell.

Bummer for the trip getting cut short.
Good that it didn't also involve a crash.
And with some guys selling the nice running bikes for $3500-$3700 a decent used engine should be available, and by selling off the spares it should be a wash on the cost if he works it right.

(Dang, now I'm thinking of something again, oh well, where's the toolbox.)

Mike...I thought about a main seal but came to the same conclusion as you. It would have blown out the overflow vent.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

I know on my westward trip on some days I'd use/loose more oil than others. I suppose it's possible it just went out the vent as he rode and he might not have caught it in time. Mine lost nearly a quart one day, quite the eye opener. Other and most days it barely lost any. Heat, humidity, throttle, some weird variation or coordination of conditions, don't know. But yep we'll know soon enough.

alsoo stated that the oil light didn't come on . . . while it certainly COULD have failed, it's beginning to swound like a case of non-failure failure, if that makes any sense

bummer, in any event

Question...Does the oil light indicate a low condition or just circulation failure?

The reason I ask is I was told the oil light was a circulation warning and would go on if the oil pump failed. Was also told that if it ever goes on to shut down immediately and if I have oil to get a tow.

Could work under other circumstances, but, as you all know, I suffer from oil pump drive gear paranoia since I started reading the BWB and structure my questions accordingly.

The oil path in H-D/Buell engines has been a point of discussion for many years, from where the oil tank/bag is located, to where the oil filter is located, to where the oil pressure indicator is positioned.

I do not know the answer to your question. We're loosing our coffee pot in the office today and I may be on my last cup of coffee here as I type this. If that helps in your quest for an answer then you're most welcome. 'scuse me now whilst I prepare to become grumpy and disgruntled at work. ; )

Nah, think I'll just start riding the bicycle to work. By the time I stop sweating and the heart rate returns to normal it will be time to go home again. Who needs coffee, I'll have exercise induced endorphins! Or maybe I'll just get some of those Folgers coffee in a tea bag things instead.

that oil light is hooked up to a pressure-sensing switch -- light's on when you power up the ignition, before starting, due to no oil pressure (unless it was running, and ya killed it for just a moment) . . . ..

so, in a manner of speaking, you COULD consider it a circulation monitor (no circulation = no pressure), but that's not quite accurate

the oil level in the system can vary all over the map -- so long as the pressure is above the sensing limit of the switch, the light stays off. Of course, if the oil level falls to the point where there ain't enough for the proper amount of pressure to be generated, the light will illuminate

so, if everything is operating as it should the light WILL illuminate if the pump goes south

don't know th switch seating, but my guess would be pretty low, as it goes off almost immediately after startup

Thanks John. That makes sense. Like I said, with the oil pump drive gear paranoia, I don't hear anything else and have to ask later.

You know, the old self-fulfilling prophecy thing, eh?
