Just finish 149 miles this afternoon, 40 miles of dirt/gravel, so slow speeds. Fan came on a couple times during the slow , but cycled off when I was able to pick up some speed. Didn't notice the seat getting any warmer than before; BUT try to check you oil with the fan running. That is pretty hot to try to get the dip stick out and back in with a bare hand.}

Cpilot, check your oil while it's running, you get a more accurate reading and with the Comfort Kit the fan's not running till shut down unless it's really hot out.}

I got ALL of the kit installed last week. I had been running only the scoops and shield for about a month, and just got in the shroud. GREAT SUCCESS! Did a ride this Sunday, 150 miles, in drizzly upper 50's, and the fan NEVER came on until after shutoff. That's pretty mild for central Tx, but I was riding a bunch of small county roads, and the fan normally would have been blowing at those slow speeds. Honestly, I ALMOST missed the fan every time I slowed for an intersection or stop sign and heard only motor.

As an aside, mine is an 09, and until I'm convinced there is a mechanical benefit, I don't plan on getting the reflash. The fan cooling the rear head upon shutdown has never bothered me. In fact, I kinda like it.

Two more points-

The install was a bit of a PITA, but well worth it.

A great product. Kudos to Buell. I LOVE the fact that it shields the electrics from the heat.

I got all the ductwork installed this evening. It was a bit of a PITA, especially dealing with one of the Battery Tray screws which I found to be tightened on an angle on the front left side (hidden by the fuse box). I ended up chasing the threads and have it in nice and flush. But all said everything fit well and sealed up tight.
I did not remove the top ECM screw just loosened it slightly to swivel the black box out of the way. Thanks to whomever figure that trick out.
I haven't had a chance to ride it to determine any difference, the RSS brings a bit or symmetry to the front.

Dare I ask, has anyone attempted a definitive 'howto' for installing the kit? This is one BIG thread. : )

OK, after reading this thread a dozen times, I bit the bullet and ordered the comfort kit for my 08 XT today. Looks like it should arrive Monday. Still debating on doing the install myself or paying local dealer. Want to get it on before a trip next month.

At this point I am leaning towards just doing it myself. I am fair with mechanics, and do most of my own maintenance on my BMW (oil changes, valve adjustments, added led running lights to front signals, etc.) So I am guessing this should not be too much harder ?

It appears the consensus is that the front ECM screw does not need removed only loosened ?

Any other things I should know before diving in ?

Thanks !
