I am pleased. Every time I ride the bike now, it feels like I have a new bike. I even had to ride it today. I put on the rain suit and went out between rain showers, just because I could. I haven't felt this way about it since it was new. Of course having the other issues fixed makes a difference too, but beyond permagrin and other fun factors, it is now nice to ride. |

electra, I paid $75 shipped for the RSS used from a fellow badwebber about two years ago... I plan to pull it and use it on my next XB as the ULY is up for sale, $7000 takes it, luggage and all. |

An air ducting kit and heat shield for the rear cylinder exhaust pipe. Picked mine up today, takes two to three hours to install. The latest ECM reflash is also recommended to change fan operation. Kit is stock on 2010 bikes. |

I installed the RSS and heat shield so far. The first week was great, just like everyone else the fan stayed off till I turned off the bike. Well now on my last two rides the fan came on after getting on the highway and stayed on till I got to work. At 60' out. What gives? Thats how it was running before. |

Sprintex, According to your profile you don't own a Buell. Update. |

Sprintex if you haven't had the ECM update and the shroud installed don't expect the "system" to make a big difference. You only have it half in-place. That's "what gives" |

That is correct. It was designed to function as a "system". I had the first one in the country installed and immediately took it on a 1,200 mile shake-down ride in fairly hot weather. It performed flawlessly. (Message edited by court on September 23, 2009) |

So that explains the extra permagrin you were trying to hid when we saw you at the event. |

Since I live in the sticks, and the nearest dealer is 100+ miles I just ordered the kit from Surdyke $103.38 delivered. It's lousy that as much as I like to trade local I can buy online and ship for usually way less. My local HD dealer doesn't do Buells, but still misses a lot of my $$. |

I saw the same thing. Local dealer 100 mile round trip. Parts not in stock, wait a week, no BadWeB discount(I can pay them $50.00 a year for a 10% discount), pay tax of 9.75%. Liberty had them in stock, 10% discount, at my door in two days. My dealer does Buells, but at what cost to me. |

My local dealer has a similar deal - pay to join the HOG thingy, and they'll throw in a 10% discount on all parts - as long as they already have the parts in stock, that is. Do they stock Buell parts? Well, no... Awright! I'm jumping on that deal with both feet! Seriously, though, I do frequent the place and get service done there that I'm not willing to do myself, like fork oil and stuff that I'd just murder if I tried it. I'm one of those mechanics that will ruin anything the first time I try it, and get it right from then on. but I sure can get tired of always doing it wrong the first time, though. So I just gave up on the complicated stuff that I've never done before and let Harley do it. It's much better if they have to pay for their mistakes, instead if me paying for mine... I've even been happy with their work, at least so far. I don't expect that to change any, either. Except for the funky 'parts discount" deal, I'm impressed with Tucson Harley. |

Bttrtnwrk, They probably give it to your clone who murders it the first time he wrenches on your bike. |

Boy you guys are harsh. All I am wondering was is that before I had installed the RSS on my 06, on my normal ride to work, the fan would always come on getting on the highway , after installing the RSS the fan stayed off till I got to work and shut it down. Now this week it is running like it was before I installed the kit. I know it works as a system, but there are others who have posted here who also have just installed the RSS with good results. I am am just curious. |

I think the point that's trying to be made is, don't judge the system until you have the WHOLE thing installed. The time spent here wondering about it could have been used to finish the installation, the way it was intended to be done. The only thing I noticed when I had the RSS installed by itself was a cooler right frame rail. Fan operation was basically unchanged. Note: my bike is also an '06, there is no flash available, so the hardware is all there is for me. Now that I have the whole system installed, I do notice shorter fan runs and fewer fan triggers. When it's hot out, though...the fan still comes on. Especially riding 2-up, and working the engine harder. One thing to note - I've noticed with the system installed, fan operation is MUCH more sensitive to ambient temps. A couple degrees one way or another can mean the difference between fan on, and off. I think that's because it's forcing more ambient air onto the engine and the sensors than it used to, instead of just basing it on heat-soaked sensors. End result, though: I still have a fan. It still turns on when the bike gets hot. I'm fine with that (the fan never really bothered me anyway). The comfort kit, in no way, shape, or form, is intended to REPLACE the fan operation. |

Hi Spintex, My experience is similar to yours on my 2007. The first few rides the fan wasn't running at all until I shut down but after that the fan seems to be running like it was before the change. The previous posters are lucky in that they can get the whole "system" with the ECM re-flash but not for those of us with 2006 and 2007 bikes. On a positive note, I do find that the bike is cooler and the fan is not as loud when running. I mostly notice it at shutdown anyway since I use ear plugs all the time. I sure wish the ECMSpy project was still active so we could get the fan temperature tweaks like the later bikes. |

Hmmm... interesting reports. I installed the new official RH scoop and gave it it's maiden run commuting to work and back yesterday. No other components of the comfort kit for me... 17 miles each way (92 degrees in the afternoon return trip) and the fan never came on except after shutdown. This is a first in 20,000 miles... Previously, the fan had always come on about 5 miles into the commute, even on cool days. (Message edited by growl on September 26, 2009) |

Has anyone noticed an increase in seat temp? I swear my bum is a little warmer. |

Just finish 149 miles this afternoon, 40 miles of dirt/gravel, so slow speeds. Fan came on a couple times during the slow times, but cycled off when I was able to pick up some speed. Didn't notice the seat getting any warmer than before; BUT try to check you oil with the fan running. That is pretty hot to try to get the dip stick out and back in with a bare hand. |

Another satisfied Comfort Kit customer!! Installed on my '08 Uly this week and got the flash at the dealer today. 300 mile test drive shows frame rail temps down, leg temps down, oil temps within 10F of previous. LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! WAY TO GO BUELL!! |

Road kill, What is your oil temp and where measured? |

Measured in swingarm with Dark Horse oil temp dipstick. Rural hwy ~55mph, oil temp ~190F (50 mile route this weekend)) Interstate 75+mph, oil temp 210F - 218F (400 miles this weekend) Ambient temps ranged 80-90F (humid as hell) These oil temps are within the range I usually saw before the Comfort Kit install. At 55mph, the temps are the same. At 75+mph, pre-kit temps were 210F - 225 on hot south Georgia summer days ~90F. I am looking forward to see how the kit affects oil temp while off road. I usually drive ~20mph and the Uly gets hot as hell - fan runs all the time and the oil gets to 240F. This is when I stop and let it cool down for 15 minutes. I need more data. Buelltoberfest will give me another 1000 miles of fun to check it out: slab, twisties, and a little bit of off-road in the mountains. |

Thanks. That's the kind of data I've been looking for. I think the newer ULY engines run a bit hotter than the 06' and 07' ULYs. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on September 27, 2009) |

Installed today. 3 hours - easy to do. Followed the instructions with the kit, except 4 small changes: 1 - I did not undo the rear brake light wire. The harness slides out of the way without doing that. 2 - Premounted the ECM front screw before reinstalling the seat pan. 3 - rotated fuel line to the left. 4 - ran the preload adjustment tube inside (next to the shock) - fits much better. Picture in the instructions show this, although the instructions suggest outside. I could not remember how the postive battery cable was routed before installation. Had to look at some pictures on this thread to get it right. I went for a ride afterwards. I have not had the ECM reflash yet. Heat did seem to be less - its still noticeable, but was not uncomfortable. |

I did about 650 miles for Buelltoberfest, my first good long test of the system. Between having my FL/R/S fixed, and a new front isolator, with this comfort kit, at 42,500 miles it is like riding a new bike. As I have stated before it took what was a great/awesome ride, and added an element of nice. I always wear gear that blocks most of the heat, so for me it wasn't really an issue, but this kit has taken the edge off from the heat that annoyed me, but it didn't bother me to the point to make it an issue. I had found it to be worse on my City-X than the Uly. |

I finished my install in about 2.5 hours. No hurry and a lot of interruptions + XT bags to deal with. After removing the battery box and all the pan bolts I got to looking. The pan is stiff as a board & I'w wondering how folks are getting it out. Then realized that 6 easy to access bolts would remove the left side frame and the tail section. That took about 2 minutes. I hung the tail section on the left side peg, stuffed in the new shroud, swung the tail back around and slipped in the right side bolts, then put in all the left side bolts. Way easy and no struggle. I did install the ECM to the pan with the front bolt. If I ever have to pull it again it's now inaccessible. No problem, if I take it off again I'll drill the hole out a little and drop in a well nut. I can't believe they didn't do that from the factory. 25 cents at the local hardware store would be a permanent fix. Rode to work this morning, shut the bike down and for the first time, Bingo! The fan didn't run. Life is good. (Message edited by frito on October 05, 2009) |

Frito, Keep an eye out for splooge on your oil dipstick if that fan isn't coming on at shutdown. Maybe the ride isn't long enough. I'm assuming you haven't done that reflash and maybe you don't want to. |

Well, no fan after the ride to work or on the ride home. The ride home was spirited, running from rain @ 70+ on 2 lanes. My work ride is 19 miles of open road one way. No doubt it's well warmed up. I guess the RSS is doing it's job. Correct, no flash. Though if it stops the fan from the after run I may try it. When I turn off the key I want *everything* to be off. I got the RSS installed and it was a pain. I found that the new Inner Scoop holes didn't line up with the nutserts. I checked the holes in the new part against the original and found the new holes to be smaller. I opened up the upper hole to the same size (checked the hole size and didn't note the drill size) and the new inner fell into place. Also it was easier to start installing the fasteners loosely in the middle of the outer scoop, then the bottom front, the top and finally the rear. I will tackle the guide under the tray tomorrow and don't plan on taking the front screw out of the ECM. Let you know how it goes. |
