The Fiero lent (lends) itself well to some excellent kit cars, a room mate of mine had a Montage Manta in '86, which blazed my Lotus Europa, which never ran right and had a permanent head-gasket blowout.
milling, replacement, new water pump, etc., didn't matter. That Europa just hated me.

When I finally got outta my lemon Europa, I got into Fiat 850 Spiders, which were similar in appearance for the first 1/2 of the chassis...
Nader managed top screw up their headlight configuration for the NA market..
I went through several 850 spiders, would love to have one, now. Fun little street cart.

Tramp, back then every Lotus was a lemon... The joke was that the only properly running Lotus was the one on the Formula I starting grid. I wanted a Europa in the worst way back in the 70s, tried to finagle a lease on one when the bank wouldn't even finance a new Audi Fox for me. After that deal fell through, I tried to blow all my financial aid for the quarter on a '60s Elite... fortunately the financial aid check came late and the Elite was already sold. So I ended up with a Cooper S, it's currently sitting right next to my computer here in the shop and seriously in need of rebuilding.

True that, BG.
..and the '70s Audi Fox? Yikes- right up there w/ the earlier 100LS, the archetypal German lemon-karts.
I loved having the Europa parked on campus, but I did more of my running around on my '70 t120 2-wheeler, and bummed rides when I needed to transport my Bunger longboard to the beach (thank god for nice college girls with reliable cars, wine money, and a healthy yen for watching drunken surfers at play in the waves of the lord).
Cool you've still a real Cooper S. amazing little vehicle. up there w/the Morris Minor, in my book.

Ah . . . talk about memories . . . I found a pic the other day of me with my beloved Lotus at the house in Marina del Rey circa 1995. The car, and the staff at Beverly Hills Rolls-Royce, were a royal pain but it was a blast when it was running.

Yep-
Every one of those thrilling 5 minutes, right?

Coolest thing about MDR (aside from celeb. drownings) was its proximity to the center of weirdness, Venice.

I could walk from my house to Venice . . . the great part was . . . well, that I could walk back! I lived next door to Johnny Cochran and used to to to MDR on weekends while I was running the construction companies in KC, Dallas and Sacto.

Venice, Ca...that was a LONG time ago for me ('84)

It cost only $24- per YEAR for a membership to the world-famous "Pen", as it was owned by the county parks dep't.

Tramp, the Fox (Audi 80) had reliable mechanicals, but was a real rust bucket- here in Minnesota I heven't seen a Fox or it's VW twin the Dasher on the road on years.

?!??!?!?!

the 1.6 mill was a grenade in the Fox, Dasher, (early) rabbit, etc.

Believe me, the engines go before the bodies in those things-

irregular oil pressure fluctuation grenaded more of those early water-cooled vw/audi mills than anything else.
I had 'em, I worked on 'em for a great little indy VW tech when I was a teen

This was the early to mid 70s and IIRC the Fox and Rabbit came with a 1.5 liter engine. The 1.6 came later.

The "Bavaria" started it all for BMW here in the states. The 2002 carried the ball (esp. the tii) past the posts.
For my money, nothing compares to the old CSI lines (2.8,3.0, etc.)
...and don't get me started on Baur karoserie
products, I've had my share of 'em.

There is a link with the Citroen 2CV to
