"I have over 200 "bad experiences" with cops. I don't have to judge ... I know. They ALL have the same mental framework of wanting to abuse power and to be worshipped. One changed though. He was a jerk until a van almost killed him on his motorcycle. I can stomach his presence now. " "words escape me." They only mostly escape me brother... you. I'll bet there's 200 cops out there who feel they've had a bad experience with you. . What makes you feel YOU'RE so right? 200 bad experiences (I really doubt that number) with more than a few police officers seems to indicate to me that YOU are the problem. The problem can only exist in a string of situations in the noun that is common to all of those situations. I think you have a problem with authority AND respect. You know, there's a lot more than meets the ears to the statement "It takes one to know one". "I don't have to judge ... I know. They ALL have the same mental framework of wanting to abuse power and to be worshipped. " Yeah... you know. You know that you can't stand to have anyone around you that deserves your respect or at least your compliance based on something other than earning it. You say ALL cops have a superego that tells them they need to be worshiped? I think you have a superego that tells you that you are greater than all else. I think your id's a little up to . I think you feel inferior due to YOUR OWN perception of what a police officer is about. I think maybe you had a bad experience in the past but now you've "grown up" and gotten a little more confident. Now... your reactions to police officers are generated based on one or maybe a few more experiences with probably a single cop. Maybe a couple of cops. My ascertation (and I suppose we're approaching dissertation...) is that YOU cause the tone of the encounter that leads to "bad experiences". The police officer almost certainly doesn't intend to cause a bad experience when he walks up to you. He's most likely just trying to get back home to his wife and kids. If you live in a town where all the cops know you... Well... Put that in your pipe and smoke it. When you come down, make a concerted effort next time you have an encounter with a police officer and as long as you aren't actually doing anything stupid you might just have a good experience with a cop. BTY... What do you do that causes you to have so many run in's with the law that ISN'T stupid? To the rest of you... Sorry for the small hijack. I was just looking for the cool video of the dumb lady who got the living crap shocked out of her for being dumb . |

"I have a better chance dying driving to work than a cop getting killed while on duty. Gimme a break! IT IS THEIR JOB!" Do you know how much a police officer gets paid? |

Respectfully, this is from an article in Forbes: "The third most common cause of death on the job in 2000 was homicide, which claimed 677 workers. Fifty cops were murdered. But so were 205 salespeople. Falls were the second most common cause of death, accounting for 12% of the total. Not surprisingly, roofers and structural metal workers were the most likely to meet this fate. " The most common cause of death on the job in 2000, however, was the car accident, accounting for 23% of the total. Even police officers were slightly more likely to die behind the wheel than by homicide. " Cab drivers are 4 times more likely to be killed on the job. LEO's don't make the top five. |

Being an estimator in the construction business in the Bay Area, I can tell you that Glaziers and Iron Workers take a beating regularly. I'm talking serious injuries and death. It happens too often. Way more dangerous than cop work. The statitic about falls is true. Also throw in electrocutions, being crushed, amputations, etc. Seen em all. But don't get me wrong...cops should have honor in the public eye, just not worship and the license to abuse people because said people don't "hop-to" right away. |

I think we are missing the point. The woman was instructed many times to step out of the vehicle. That is the major no-no she commited. If it were me and I was the cop, I would have acted just so. |

I've done the most dangerous job in the U.S. Convenience store clerk/manager. Midnight shift. Cops ALWAYS got free coffee & donuts. That's how I paid for security, by keeping the coffee pots clean & coffee fresh. Sure, I've run into ego driven cops, but by far the majority are ok guys, not that they don't give tickets, but they won't abuse a citizen in a respectful encounter. They lady in the video deserved it. The cops shouldn't have zapped her IMHO, but I probably would have too, if I'd been there. |

The lady was instructed to get out of the car. Just how stupid are people? Do they not watch the show Cops. When somebody with power tells you to do something then do it. I might not have tasered the woman but then again I probably wouldn't take a job that makes me work 3rd shift on Christmas Eve for 15.00 an hour. The fault lies on the DMV, DOT, and/or local school systems. People should be taught what they are to do when pulled over by a cop. The dumb a$$ got what she needed. and I bet the next time she will follow simple instructions. ______________________ How come we can kill Iraqi "insurgents" just because. Yes, there are other jobs with higher death rate, but the point is that those other jobs don't get the person treated like or disrespected just because of the job. |

" OK, yeah... words just escaped me too... "The fault lies on the DMV, DOT, and/or local school systems. People should be taught what they are to do when pulled over by a cop." Yep... There they go. Damn. Why shouldn't people just be responsible for their own actions? Why blame the innocent? Do you really feel that it's reasonable to think that someone could grow up in the US and not understand police and what they are? Gimme a break. Oh wait... Maybe you are right... We could raise taxes a little, start a new federally funded program to teach children who and what police officers are and how to interact with them. That way the kid's parents can STILL sit on their asses, watch TV and be lazy. Too many people look outwards these days. OK, so it seems they came around for another lap. How hard is it to understand....."get out of the car!" Must be pretty tough in Florida. Well, at least among the Melodramatic Types. I contend the Officer's conducted themselves in a proper manner. Gosh, most of the places I have lived she would have been treated a lot worse regardless of ethnicity or gender. Looks and sounds more like she thought she was going to be the next Rodney King. Not as far as the whoopin' goes, but as far as the financial settlement. Guess a Pacifistic Officer would have just stood there on camera and kept giving her orders and adding to the list of charges as she compiled them which she appeared to be so willing to do. Heck, at the rate she was going her best defense would have been temporary insanity. At least she would have spent time in the County Nut House trying to get her act back together and straighten out her priorities. No one is above the law on the streets, that's what the courts are for. |

I saw this story and it made me think of this thread, guess they don't have tasers in Australia Mother jailed for assault on officer Tony Keim 12may05 A MOTHER of two became so enraged when police stopped her for a traffic offence she kicked an officer in the testicles, a court was told yesterday. The Ipswich District Court was told Tiffany Elaine Levitt also bit the police sergeant's hand so hard his constable partner had to use a police baton as a lever against her nose to get her mouth open. Levitt, 18, of Ipswich, was yesterday jailed for nine months after she pleaded guilty to two counts of seriously assaulting a police officer at Silkstone, an inner Ipswich suburb, on April 24 last year. Prosecutor Craig Power said the two Ipswich-based police officers, a sergeant and a constable, were aware Levitt did not hold a driver's licence when they told her to pull over when they saw her driving a car carrying her partner and children. Mr Power said Levitt began swearing and abusing the officers. The court was told after Levitt continued to swear she was arrested for being a public nuisance. Mr Power said as officers tried to handcuff Levitt she lashed out at the senior officer by kicking him in the groin and biting his hand. He said Levitt kicked the sergeant so hard in the testicles he instantly dropped to the ground, writhing in agony. The court was told Levitt kicked the second policeman in the leg and punched him. Judge Julie Ryrie was told Levitt's de facto husband then tried to intervene by threatening to kill the two officers and used one of the couple's toddlers as a shield to keep them at bay. Mr Power said as Levitt was being placed in a police car she spat in the sergeant's face and on his neck and upper-body. The Crown also tendered a victim impact statement from the police sergeant, which revealed he was forced to undergo a year of medical tests and suffered psychological trauma while waiting to find out if he had contracted any diseases from Levitt. Barrister Steve Kissick, for Levitt, said his client simply snapped in the belief she had been unfairly singled out by the officers. Judge Ryrie, in sentencing Levitt, said the courts would not tolerate members of the public inflicting violent attacks on police officers. She ordered Levitt's jail term be suspended after four months. © Queensland Newspapers http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,15253739%5E36399, 00.html#121 |

Another LEO flamefest? Sorry but I'm not going to take the time to read the whole thing. Having been a late night sales person, construction worker, behind bars, had bad cop experiences AND spent 14yrs as a Reserve Deputy I'd say most people know too little to pass judgement.I expected to find a lot of LEOs on ego trips but found very few. Nearly all were very professional or just trying to get the job done. Here a Reserve puts on the same uniform as a regular and does the same job for no pay. When I retired from the Reserves I got a retirement badge....and the same pay. For a 49 state cop that officer did nothing wrong as far as I can tell. Here I would have had to try to use some physical force then pepper spray before a stun gun as the levels of force are very defined. That officer's method strikes me as far better/safer for both him and his contact. As an electrician I'm more likely to die from an on the job injury but a LEO is more likely to suffer a serious injury. Lots of scuffles. A fireman is far more likely to have either occur. Firemen and electricians are far less likely to have people shooting at them tho. A LEO is most likely to die or be injured in a car. Spend that much time in a car and somebody's going to make a mistake, either you or the other guy. There are more reasons to a LEO's pay scale than just his risk level. Promoting professionalism and reducing the risk of bribe taking are just a couple. As to a few of the negative posts I did read I can tell that your attitude got you to where you are and it's going to take you farther down the same path. If your willing to pull a 'tude like that with the uniform then you gotta be a real PITA for the average John Q. Try to sell it to somebody else as I'm not dumb enough to buy it. |

As a LEO before you get to use this stuff you have to be subjected to it first (up to a point). I'm glad they didn't think we had to shoot each other to see how that felt. I've been shocked enough times in my life, tazer or otherwise. If you don't mind I'll just watch Jon. |

We got to pair off and practice our newfound skills on each other. Cuffing, control holds, MACE, Pepper spray, stun weapons and baton. Found out I'm one of a small group of people that MACE hardly effects at all. Pepper spray rips me a new one and will chase after me no matter how the wind blows. When the OC came out I tried to get outa Dodge. In baton training we had to pad up and alternate practicing our moves on each other. If you were not working hard enough the trainer, who was huge, wore his pads and a large padded shield all day, would charge in from the side and knock you on your butt. If you trained for stun gun, tazer, stun shield or stun belt one of the first things you got to do is stand in the middle of the training mats and get it used on you. And my first rangemaster sometimes liked to make us shoot trap doubles with the riot guns loaded with 00 buck. You were expected to get both clays but thank goodness we didn't have to test at that. Thats HARD. |

Tazer (I think) is a brand name for a stun unit that shoots the electrodes out about ten to twenty (?) feet to maintain a safe distance. Never had that pleasure thank you. Stun Guns are hand held and all shapes, sizes and effects. Had a friend nail me with a big heavy duty one on the back of the thigh. My thoughts were just all the red dots. Almost fell but jumped away. Leg twitchy for a few seconds. Felt like getting nailed by a spark plug wire. Can't say that it's truly incapacitating but it's a GREAT mood changer. Went from happy to wanting to kick my buddy's in one second flat. My stun weapon training was limited and defend against only. I didn't have to take the shock treatment.
