No offense to anyone...but was wondering how the translucent tank has been received over the last few years? At first it seemed like quite a novelty but now every one I see that is more than a year old seems to be all scratched up and funky looking. If you are looking for a used XB and don't want the translucent tank...your (my) choices are severely limited. Again, no disrespect meant to those who have them. |

The '07 that I just bought has a translucent tank. Granted, it has only 77 miles on it as of today, it looks brand new. I am also worried about the tank "clouding up" with age. |

probably off topic and i apologize if this is considered a hijack - i just acquired a red one for my 03xb9sl, do i need different bolts to keep it from cracking on the attachment points? if yes, does anybody have part #'s for the bolts? |

not really different bolts, there is a stainless sleeve that goes through the plastic so you cannot over tighten the bolts, not sure on the part #. |

45 minutes, Novus 2, and Harley Sealer glaze can get a pretty rough looking translucid piece looking great. More then I can say for the paint job on other tanks I have had.... |

I thinks that it is a ballsy move by Buell to offer something like this. Had anyone ever done this? - In "wild colors, "cherry bomb, hero blue, ash, etc? - IMO- adds to the "wow" factor - Quite frankly, the bodywork is cheap- all things considered- if you have priced sportbike plastic lately - offers Buell owners a miriad of choices to "customize" (FUN) the look of our bikes - Accentuates the fuel in frame and other trick bits by "showing off" the working parts underneath.. I SAY COOL DEAL!!! |

P.N. is CO188.3AA (it looks like a top hat) and I would highly reccomend getting the nylon washers CB0016.3AA.to go with them. |

my Valencia Orange translucids are approaching three years old (11000 mi) and have a few small scratches, but no other defects. i thought they might be fragile when i first got 'em, but they have weathered very well... i love the translucid bodywork, in general. it's neato. |

>>>Had anyone ever done this? No. Cooler yet is the Surlyn bodywork . . . .you can bend it into a total crease and it pops right back unlike regular plastic that takes a set and "prints" a white stress line at the crease. And the Surlyn (you know it as golf ball covers) is tough as nails. |

I love the translucent bodywork. Like Reep said, a little care and elbow grease and it looks great. With my airbox totally gone it looks pretty cool in the sunshine. I'm working on another color soon so I can change things up once in a while. If you think about the total number of variations you can achieve with all the different parts from all the different models it is a very unique line of bikes in my opinion. |

Gambit, The two front bolts are different. They are the same bolt as for the little RH scoop. They don't have a shoulder like the other bolts. Part numbers AA0406.11CZB : bolt CO188.3AA : top hat bushing CB0016.3AA : isolating washer I've heard some who say that these would be better for the two rear bolt holes as well. |

The bodywork is cheap, if my cover gets to the point that I feel its unacceptable, I will just buy another one. |

This is true...$165 or so for a cover vs. a paint job = gravy. |

The Novus scratch remover and Novus cleaner and protector works wonders. Just get a buffer or use some elbow grease and your plastic cover will look brand new...here's what mine looks like. Had to get the cover perfect so that you could see through the airbox and look at my new paint job!

Thanks guys..I've appreciated your input. Ds_Tiger, yes indeed. I've been bikeless for about 18 months and have decided to start looking for an XB. I'm short, so preferably a cg lightening. |

My cherry bomb plastics don't look too bad after 2 1/2 yrs and 17K+ miles. I did, however, recently purchase the Hero Blue and is it beautiful!!! Now I can change colors with my mood! Thanks for the info on the Novus, may try it just to brighten things up |

I use Plexus, works great for cleaning the plastic, and Novus for polishing, there's nothing better than novus. Valencia orange, only polshed a couple times because of accidental scratches, 8800 miles and stll looks new. |

I find a good layer of mud and grime protects the plastic finish well. I traded out the hero blue for the valencia orange. No regrets. All my bikes are black and orange. Plus I would like to think I have the only Valencia orange CityX, that has been dressed up in Uly parts, has carribou luggage and runs off road... I would post a pic here, but I am sure you have all seen it. |

I'm surprised how durable (and cheap) they are. My airbox is getting some scratches and marks in it where my jacket rubs on it constantly, but other than that it looks really good. |

I just ordered a Kick Ash box last week. can't wait to get it! I wonder.... don't they make a clear spray on paint protector for the front of cars? I wonder how it would react with a translucid airbox? ~SM |

you could have some clear bra added for a car--it is a stone chip protector and wont hurt the plastic at all.Audi parts has a really think clear bra for protecting headlights.....if u want to add to your headlights.the normal clear bra for hoods would be fine for any wear areas. scott |
