Thanks...could you also check the dia/pitch of the bolts.

On the PMs note I did a bunch this afternoon since it was soo warm here (60's in New England in November is weirdly abnormal) Full fluids, filter, checked the boot, torque on the header studs and all other exhaust bolts (did the rubber washer trick), rechecked my tree's since I just removed my clipons, changed my rear turnsignals too.

Note air screw out to 3 turns for the WB.

Other note on the Force - air screw 3 1/3 out and Dial A Jet had to be upped a notch - about a half jet up - gone is the popping - funny part is I was actually a bit rich with the WB, but end up lean with the Force - thats amazing to me and tells me a lot about the design of the pipe - this pipe was actually made for a performance Blast engine and it really shows when dialed in - geez its loud though, but I like it!

Third note - the WB set up the way I did it -front lower stock mounting with rubber washer to each side, the longer bolts, 21 discs, and no torque cone will deliver 3 1/2 more horsepower than the V&H or Bub and now that I got the Force I figure I've actually gained 1 to 2 more - the power band dropped down now to 3000 (- due to air mixture screw and upping the overall jetting a notch - idle is now dead on 1000) it starts rushing then at 4100 the cam boost kicks in to an even faster ride - very fun. The nice thing about the WB though is that its power rush is from the gitgo, and it just keeps climbing smoothly all the way to redline/limiter and its so much quieter than the Force - perfect for in city commuting and all around usage - about as loud as the Pro-series, but a lot more umph involved - lol

Gorodin:
If you want to go a really cheap route, just about any muffler from a dual exhaust Harley (Sportster or Big Twin) will bolt on to that headpipe. Stock or aftermarket. It can be attached to the rear bracket that held the V & H can with a standard automobile muffler clamp.

It may be as loud or louder than the V & H (if aftermarket) or quieter (if stock) and the performance will be as good as stock or better.

The point: maybe a friend or local HD shop (or swap meet) has an extra used stock or aftermarket muffler they'll give or sell you cheap. You can shine it up or paint it black.

Thanks for all your help.

After reading all your advice and learning more about the mufflers in question, I started broadening my search to anything that might fit on the V&H pipe and fit strapped to the bottom of my bike. I got lucky on 2 counts.

I found a used stock muffler in need of some TLC (rust remover and paint). It was cheapish on EBay. Should be receiving it soon.

Also, today just won a beat-up SS2R can for $5 on EBay. Don't know what bike it was for, but it looks like it was side mounted. I hope to salvage the core and endcap for the V&H that came with my bike and get that working.

This all means that I should soon have options and will be riding again in the near future.

I expect I will use the V&H for the most part, but while I am refurbishing the stock exhaust, is there anything I can do to improve it that does not involve welding?

The stock beater...

Part of my "IMHO ECONO PERFORMANCE Stage "A" is to put a same size hole opposit the OEM hole in the rear of the Muffler ...

A "PLUS" for the OEM Muffler is that you can PAINT it so it looks like a "CHIN FAIRING" ...

I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on the Pro-series K&N air cleaner kit (#29026-03Y). I figure if I'm going to make my Blast breath out better I should help it breath in better too. It doesn't look like this will cause and leg clearance issues like some of the other air intakes I've seen might.

speaking as an early intake mod guy I can say that the Buell intake is fine...they copied Ray and I and didn't pay us royalities...but it works fine. Depending on how tall you are you may or may not have to make a bracket to support the carb. Since you don't have rearsets the strain that you put on the carb boot may not warrent the need for a brace but buying and carrying a spare boot is is a good idea.

nah I prefer having a K&N filter especially since I ride in the North East in all manner of weather and air conditions. If I had simpler weather conditions to deal with then for certain I would think about yours though.

Update:

So, I got the SS2r in the post yesterday. Immediately took it apart to make sure all the parts were there. Wow, this can had been seriously abused. Well, can't complain as I only paid $5 + shipping...

The good news is that the core was fully intact. The ebay can is longer than mine (from a different bike, as you can probably tell by the mounting) so I cut the core down by 1.5" for a perfect fit. Re-packed the can, and the muffler is now ready to install, as soon as I can get a half day without rain.

Still waiting on the stock pipes to come in.

Meineke does a good job if you don't mind going to a heavier gauge exhaust pipe. I had my entire exhaust made for $90. It barely passes inspection, too. My wife hates it, so I know it's good.

The rebuilt SS2r is on the bike. It's still loud, but not quite deafening. I have to admit, it does sound nicely aggressive...

Meanwhile, the stock exhaust finally came via UPS tonight. It has some rust and needs some cleaning and fresh paint.

Are there any recommendations for a rust-binding paint that would be safe on an exhaust? Also, high temp glossy yellow paint to match my fairing?

Finally, anyone know offhand what a new mounting strap might cost me?

Is there a link to anything that talks about this in detail?

Ok I finally found a PLACE to buy E-series discs for my WB, The problem is you have to order $40 worth so I ordered a 12 disc kit, the extended bolts and a repack kit for the WB E-series can. Having the correct bolts is nice though pricey from them the repack kit on the other hand well I know that my last repack was half a$$ed and it's getting loud so I'm not to worried about that...only removing the front this time though

when I opened up my can there wasn't any packing left...I mean none so a repack was a requirement. I did it with stainless steel wool but I didn't pack enough into the can so I've been blowing out little pieces of steel wool for the last 2000 miles or so...the noise is getting to me again.

Yeah - mines gone - still not half as loud as the Force pipe - lol - sounds as loud as an old pro series except more of the tenor noise - I like the sound a lot, and the Force tuned is just a fierce sound and loud, I've grown used to the mixed reactions it gets, usually double takes - lol

OK I've had a couple of days with the EZ mod version of a White Brothers can. Now I haven't changed my cam (yet) so the only changed to my motor are jetting (45/175), intake (Pro-series prototype ) and my WB exhaust with 21 disks. The first thing I noticed is that throttle response is much improved, especially at low RPM's. It revs about as fast as my Jardin did with nowhere near the noise. All things considered I'm quite happy with the change now I just need to change the CAM to a B50 and my winter motor mods will be complete.

Off subject question. I had my heart set on installing a buell pro exhaust system on the problem child but those seem to be made out of unobtainium. I picked up a Jardine exhaust, but while surfing Ebay I found (and bought-now) a hooker system that resembles the Buell Pro system. Which one is better?

Concur! Try them both. The Pro Series used to have a good reputation, but seemed to suffer quality control issues late in production. The Jardine seems the less reliable of the 2 from reports.
The Pro Series might be the more quiet of the 2 depending on if you get the Jardine 'quiet core' or not.
The Jardine is probably the better performer if you go beyond the B50 cam.

I have run the Pro Series but not the Jardine.

The Jardine performance wise is twice the exhaust that the Pro-series/Hookers exhaust - there are good tips here for making the longevity of the Jardine way surpass the Pro-series - just use new stock lower front mounting and add a rubber washer to each side of the bolt and do the proper jetting and airscrew turning and keep up on the packing or go to a disc system and forget about packing - lol - with those mods the Pro-series will rust away long before the Jardine wears out!
