Mmelvis, I'm planning a dual-dash setup like yours - the info & pics you posted were very helpful to me!

Here is the gap, post-surgery - a little blurry (anesthetic not worn off yet?), but narrower nonetheless.

Its amazing how much different (to me) your bike looks to mine, even though they are close in colour and mods! Subtle little changes make a big difference.
Looks good.

Another year, another unchanged f__ing blast. If Buell had anybody under the age of 60 in their marketing OR design departments, we would see a blast that looks something more like what you see on the board here. Too bad it's the Motor Company's embarassing stepchild.

Attached a pic resulting from the bastard that hit me in SOMA last week. A pickup shot out from a side street. Big swerve, but still hit (KEPT IT ON TWO WHEELS!!!). If I was on a big bike I'd have a crushed leg right now, instead of a $12.86 bill for a new turn signal from fabulous Dudley Perkins HD in SF>

IMHO the BLAST is the "PERFECT PRODUCT" for it's intended purpose by Erik Buell ...

"BUT" to make it ride and handle like the
BUELL that Erik would have liked to made out of it, a little "PRODUCT IMPROVING" and "IMPROVISING" has to be done !!!

In BLASTing

I'm thinking average age at Buell isn't a factor. They probably don't see a big enough increase in potential sales to offset retooling costs. They're probably missing out.

I just know that my little bike generates way more interest - from all kinds of people - than most bikes.

No retooling is necessary. How about color matching frames and/or wheels, etc. A decent handlebar. Mine came (used) with a moderate rise bar I always thought was OEM. When I finally saw a Blast in a showroom, I couldn't believe the Cindy Brady-esque "apehangers." I didn't even believe the clerk when I asked if Blast always came with that bar.

The best thing Buell had going for the Blast was the ProSeries exhaust, and they quit making that. That's what most folks first notice and do a doubletake. That and the belt drive. A couple weeks ago, I had several guys from a big HD/Buell dealership checking out the Blast, and one said "It's so cool, it doesn't look anything like a Blast." Again, that's from a HD/Buell employee at a big dealer. And my cost is extremely minimal - exhaust, bars, $20 in spraypaint, and some time removing parts.

90% (at least) of the many people who ask about my economy traffic buster have never even heard of Buell, although everybody knows Harley. It was a year and a half into ownership that I finally saw another Blast on the street.

Do I give a flying-f about the Motor Company? Not really. In fact, I don't really like being associated with HD at all. But I really like my little Blast, and if you're reading this then you know why. It's just so easy and fun, but the aftermarket is extremely limited and dealers never have jack for parts in.

If everybody stopped assuming that there's no market for a Blast other than a dealership-training bike for brand new riders on $20k big twins and started promoting the Blast a little, I think we'd all be a little better off.

Then again, I love a unique bike. Keep it up Wisconsin!

Hey thanks!

It's actually orange, chevrolet engine orange. Couldn't find a HD orange rattlecan. As a traveler, the bike gets kinda beat up sometimes but there's always a can of semigloss black and chevy orange available.

I figured black and orange was a clue to it's lineage and it shows off the belt drive. Both pulleys are orange, and now I wish I would have left the plastic cover off the rear pulley also when I added spacers to get the belt to actually ride on the rear pulley.

People ask about it a lot, and I just enjoy chatting with folks about Buells. All the time I've spent on free promotion, though, I should hit up Buell for a helmet to replace mine which was just stolen. Two weeks in San Francisco and crashed into twice, one parking ticket, helmet and gloves stolen (turn my back for 2 f__ing minutes), and everything is rusting like crazy. Glad it's not a shiny new FatBoy - I might have gotten pissed.

off!!!

Get a cable lock and make them work to steal it also attaching even to a meter pole- lol - and an M2 2000+ locking gas cap - worth the few bucks - any generic cylinder key will open and close it - but they won't know that and it will save your gas - my cable lock has a cylinder key which doubles for the gas cap key as well - lol - Welcome to SF!

Well I to am disappointed with HD dealership support, or lack there of. However, a review of HD $ numbers provides insight into the stepchild scenario.

HD, with what some consider mediocre products, service and quality, has had 20 years of increasing sale& with a 6+% this past year. Business should be so bad for other US companies! Selling Buell's is a hobby at best. Eric must add meaningful technology for them to even bother with him. Not a product line embraced by HD management-dealers because why?? They are selling cruisers hand-over-fist. To expect these sales reps to waste time chasing riders for bikes that are not an equal to the mainstream sportbike is silly.
The market is what it is. Salespeople will embrace what there customers are interested in buying.

Imagine the Blast with the Kawasaki 650 twin engine. Whoopa!

I agree with what you say except "To expect these sales reps to waste time chasing riders for bikes that are not an equal to the mainstream sportbike is silly". It wouldn't matter if they were equal with the super sportbikes of today, they still wouldn't aggressively sell them. The XB's are, however,an equal with many of todays sportbikes.

Geez! The little black blast just got hit again! A girl backed into it and knocked it over. I'm gonna have to start buying turn signals in bulk if I stay in San Francisco any longer!

LOL - thats why I went to CycleGear and bought some nice inexpensive mini triangle ones for the red bike front and rear - they have a soft small rubber stalk for flex and have been pretty durable, and if they ever do get broken are inexpensive to replace - the price of a pair for the price of a single Buell unit.
Obligatory picture!

Currently on the Black are Avon Viper AM63 in 110/70-16 and 140/70-16 and on the red the Pirelli MT75 in stock sizes.

How about an 809cc Blast using factory parts(XB12 stroke by XBRR jug with a 10.5 comp.) and a City X rolling chassis combined together - sounds like fun?;0) - Also I may pick up a Kickashe CityX before years end or the beginning of next year - or I may take out a loan and send out a Blast for the 809cc treatment;0)

So far - so good - took them out today so that i could take the long way home and prep them a bit more for an Alice run - I want them totally scrubbed in befor I do the 100 miles of curves bit - they take about 5 miles to warm up vs. the old Avon AM52's 10 miles to warm up and are pretty sticky - repeated hard cornering is still to be tested - I want to scrub the viper's head off the tread edges.
