So is that the new custom filter dyed red or just a red stock stack-filter from Outerwears -
With the restrictions of the V&H your probably not feeling much restriction from the intake on a regular filter but its there from about 3500 to 4500 rpm range - then it will clear up -

The custom filter is worth it though - I was able to dial most of it out on my hot rod - not noticeable with all the esoteric work done on the carb - lol, but it was noticeable on the other Blast - the custom filter definitely smoothed things out, though with shimming you can dodge it a bit as well.

Someday soon, Maxx will be very proud of me. I'm using the pic above of the Ducati as my inspiration...

"Berkshire, did you paint your rims yourself? And if so, what was the process like, and the media you used?"

yep, here's how:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/20273.html

I've done a lot of riding since I posted that - worn out 2 Pirelli rears (9000+ mi.) and half a front (4000+) and the wheel paint is holding up pretty well overall. There are one or two places where the paint has chipped off, probably from riding back roads topped w/ crushed rock (seems to happen at the edges of spokes), but overall it still looks good enough to give me a reason to wash the bike occasionally. The chipping probably wouldn't happen if I'd applied THIN coats, but I can't ever seem to avoid the temptation to just keep spraying until the thing has a deep liquid looking surface.

Using a cut up 1-gallon plastic jug helps avoid rim scratches when changing tires.

What if my Blast spent the first few years of its life outside, and the wheels seem to have permadirt? I've tried everything except soaking the whole wheel in a tub of engine cleaner. If I clean the darn thing as much as I can, then apply primer and paint, will it flake off? A local shop will bead blast and powder coat both wheels for me for around $200-250. I'd like to do it myself, but not if it's going to look crappy later.

Reuel, that is a very good price on the powder coating...if done correctly, it will be a permanent proposition...I had all my parts including the frame done on my dragbike...powder coat is fuel proof ; ) and if you choose the proper kind, it is UV proof also...I plan on having mine done in satin black...luckily I have a good coatings shop a mine from my shop : )

Yeah, mine had the permadirt coating too!

I cleaned them with simple green and plenty of elbow grease, but they still looked dirty. Mothers polish got the machined edges bright & reasonably shiny ("mirror-polished" takes much more work!), and then I just painted the rest.

the seat was a high seat. just reshaped the foam, I really need rear sets and clip-ons now. that and the lighting flyscreen and chin fairing will make me happy with the looks at least

Here are a few pics of a grey market bike here in SF - made street legal for Cali - I'd love to see who would make it to Alices first via 35 - of all the different bikes I've seen only this one surpassing that Japan race preped Ninja 250 I've ridden with - a Cagiva Mito 125 1992 - sweet bike - seriously set up for racing -

What they looked like in Euro form -

SF - land of the grey market motorcycles!

That's pretty. It ain't a Buell, but it's pretty!

EZ--did you see the new MT-75 on the floor in front of my Blast? I've decided to stick with the Pirellis from now on. I have the Avon Roadrider on the rear, but I just don't like how it feels when I hit the throttle in a turn from a stop when it's cold. Oops! Sorry. Wrong thread.

Avons need to warm up - thats why they last longer - that roadrunner is a distance type tire - not made for carving, the viperstryke is, same goes for the two differnt Pirrelli - one is distance and one is a carver, Pirrelli don't need much time at all to warm up, thats why they don't last as long - lol - the rest are basically mileage tires as well in Blast sizes.

Styxnpicks: "...posting pics here is the WORST experience ive ever had"

So, I'm guessing you've never been poked in the eyes with sharp Styx?

IMO your cut-down flyscreen looks BETTER on your bike than an XBS one would - great job! I don't see any fasteners, so how is it held on?

or

Guys - I need either a close up of the mounting hardware on a stock exhaust, or a scan of the service manual that shows how that hardware goes together...

Putting the stock muffler back on for the wife...

the flyscreen was held on by epoxy, I took it off tho. its too small. I want the headlights lower. and I don't have the speedo dash in anymore. I might stick it back on the lowered headlights now that the speedo wont be sticking up past the screen. I'm also working on a slik oil cooler setup right now. after that I should probably invest in new tires.. then i'll be free to buy my clip-on's and rear sets...
