Can't find how to make this it's own thread in Thumper, but here is a really good program now on BadWeb. Please spread the word! Pay It Forward - Gear & Parts Assistance Pay It Forward is a forum of good will. The focus of Pay It Forward is to help BadWebbers that are in need of gear or parts. Most of us have spare parts or gear that are collecting dust or taking up room in the closet or garage. Why not share with your fellow BadWebbers. These items are not for sale, that’s what the classifieds are for. Those receiving items are responsible for shipping cost unless other arrangements are made between the two parties involved. You can post parts or gear you wish to offer and/or post your need of gear or parts. You may also send a PM to Ulywife or e-mail directly to ncgirl (at) earthlink (dot) net. Our main focus is good basic street gear for adult riders and their children who may ride with them. Parts are generally offered to those who have gone down and will help get their bike back on the road again with minimal out of pocket expense. The catch to Pay It Forward is just that, Pay It Forward when you can in the future. If you have received parts or gear and are no longer in need of said item, it should be passed to the next person as long as the item is still in good condition. These items should not be sold as it totally defeats the purpose of Pay It Forward. Currently the Pay It Forward project has three custodians: Molly_hatchet (Brian), Tx05xb12s (Philip) and Ulywife (Kristi). You can find the Pay It Forward thread in with the RAN. This will only allow registered BadWebbers to gain access to this forum. Remember, you must be signed in to view the RAN/Pay It Forward Section. We welcome any comments or suggestions and hope that this is just the beginning of Pay It Forward. Thanks to all who have played a part in making Pay It Forward a reality! |

Mitch is right! For the most power run the lowest octane your engine will tolerate. The factory has to take into account what the average rider will encounter and base it recs on that. If you run the same route everyday and have no problems running 87 octane, you could get away with it.But start throwing in hills, hot weather, 2-up riding, etc. 87 may knock and ping like crazy. I always run premium. Its cheap insurance against premature engine failure. I'd rather spend the money on higher octane than run into a situation where I must baby the throttle because its suffering from knock & ping. |

ok blast wizards... we are looking at a 2001 blast with about 7500 miles on it, what should i keep an eye out for? i remember hearing that the older blasts had a few minor problems but i cant remember what. |

Advancing the timing. Since the factory does 'tune' its bikes for the average population, to get the most out of them we must tune them to our specific needs. Timing is certainly no exception, but that may not suit everyone (just like carb jetting, its a guideline that may work for most but maybe not everyone). Advancing the timing is also a trick that can mask poor running conditions such as an over rich fuel mixture, burning oil, poor state of tune or other engine wear problems. So if you're running rich with too high an octane gas, you may need to advance the timing. A well designed engine will need less timing advance. The 'explosion' in the cylinder on the power stroke is a rapid burning of fuel. So the longer it takes to burn the fuel the engine will need more ignition advance and create less power. An engine needing less ignition advance is burning the fuel faster creating more power (a better 'explosion' rather than a burn). Granted, these are general statements and a lot more goes into engine design than just this. |

Rocker box leak or has it been re done to metal gaskets? Check tail piece for fit. If it doesnt seem to fit right or is tweaked, the bike has probably been down (all years). The Y-frames may also be bent inwards. (if this really matters to you) Check to see if wheel bearings are loose in their bores. May be hard to notice if your not sure what to look for. There will be some wheel play but it may be difficult to see it its just the bearing or the bearing in its bore. Price? |

I'm about to change the rear tire on my 2001. Is there anything I need to know? I'm putting on the phatter AvonsVypers. Is there anything special about handling the drive belt? Is there an upgrade belt? I hear that Harleys got the new "carbon fiber" belts...did these filter down to the Blast? Thanks! |

Just dont tweak the belt too much, though you shouldnt have to at all. Wheel comes off easy. Blast has the same old belt without any upgrades. Swampy or EZ can tell you about the swingarm hammer upgrade to fit the 140 tire! |

See the Swampy swing arm mod - do a search in the TKV, and don't flex the belt - still original style Gates belt. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Thanks! I heard that there was some kinda drive belt update in later Blasts... I saw other posts where you sage leaders talk about pounding the shock mount to clear the phatter tire. Exactly what do you mean? |

You just want to flatten the outward curve of the lower shock mount protector tab - a few well placed wacks does it. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Carlost, Don't twist the belt, don't make too sharp a loop with the belt. The link for the swing arm mod is: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/231216.html?1159404704 No Rice, Welcome to the Blast board! If you have 7000 miles on a 2001 Blast and the rocker boxes aren't leaking, the gasket probably already has been replaced! Also like Gearheadericko mentioned, check the rear wheel bearings, especially on the belt side. Also I would like to add check the front engine isolator and the bolts that hold the "Do Not Remove" bracket to the head. Other than that watch for the outside of you boots to scrape when you are in sharp corners...... |

All Crossroads Performance Buell products have been taken over by American Sportbike...not sure that they carry everything that Crossroads once made though... Prolly a Ps and Qs decision to get outta the Buell business... |

Crossroads performance put the Buell line up for sale about 2 years ago...all the designs and modeling files. I'm glad to see that someone of American Sport Bike's caliber bought it. |

LaFayette, Sorry, I wasn't paying attention, thanks for checking on me. Yeah, something went afoul, met a car head on, not too hard, but enough to sail over and beyond the car (don't think anything touched it except my tire on her bumper), over one set of railroad tracks and landed between that set and the next, in the nice comfy big 'ol gravel ditch. I can be great entertainment at times. I'm still amazed and feeling very blessed, I got up and walked off the tracks, even beat the train. Busted my knee, may have totaled my M2, the appraiser was just here, he's got to add it up. I'm waiting on the ins co and the orthopedic to decide both of our futures. I'm trying to get time to put the whole sad affair on the Tale Section, guess thats the best place. Counting my blessings. Ed |

well if you have years of Aikido and Judo (which thankfully trains one's body to fall/roll) you can scare the piss out of the moron who hits you. Not a recent crash just my lucky break years ago |

You now that as part of your 2nd dan in Shotokan Tote-jitsu and other jitsu must be demonstrated - locks and throws - that would include the ability to fall, and the different Chin Na styles - some incorporated into other styles of Kung Fu is/are all about locks, throws and falling - I'd say you where too busy practicing strikes to fully embrace the arts - lol GT - JBOTDS!
