The spot on the tire is the light spot and should be lined up with the valve stem. You should always check the balance on the tires after mounting them. The Avons I put on the Big Kids Blast were so out of balance that the tire hopped off the ground at 75MPH! I don't remember if the Avons were marked with a light spot or not. It seems like they were not marked..... | ||

The NEW Avon Roadrider (Purported by Avon to be worth 7-10K miles) is going to be available soon. It is a 150mph tire specifically designed for commuter bikes - so it hopefully will be able to give us at least the 7K low end of the estimate even with a high percentage of those miles being freeway speed. See this press release: http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/archives/prodjan04.asp The 120/80/16 is actually a "universal fitment" size, and can be run either front or rear. There will not be a front in the Roadrider line up in the stock blast size, but there is a 100/90/16 size, or you can always use an AM51 which should be compatible with the Roadrider Rear and should last about as long. I have already seen the Roadrider on "Busters Motorcycle Accessories" in the proper size. However, with the currency conversion and shipping from England - it ends up being pretty expensive. But, I spoke to Avon customer service again, and they told me that they are expecting a major distributor state-side to place an order for the Roadriders this month. Parts Unlimited is the distributor, but Avon said the distributor is only authorized to sell the tires to dealers. They suggested having your dealer contact Parts Unlimited on the 1st of August to get first dibs on one... nick | ||

OK, here is the situation. I commute back and forth to work in SW Florida. I put on roughly 1000 miles a month (20 miles each way, 6 days a week). I weigh 225 lbs and most of the time cruise at 65 mph. Rear tire has area of no tread about 2 inches wide. Front tire has tread still but is getting short. Figure rear is on borrowed time, front should get changed out at same time. Question is: For my application, what are the best tires to get? at the moment Avon AM51/52 are the best tires. I have stretched a front AM51 over 10K and the Rear AM52 is well over 5K right now | ||

AM 51/AM 52, Just took a nail in a rear AM 52 and it had 3000 miles on it and it had plenty of tread left, looked like more than half left. The Little Kid drives it and he weighs more than 225 lbs. | ||

Are AM51/52s available in the US? Also it seems that Pirelli shows Sport Demons in 110/70-16 Front and 130/70-16 Rear sizes. I can't seem to find these available anywhere though like Dennis Kirk or MAW or Southwestmoto. These seem like a nice upgrade from the more plebian MT75s. Anyone know where to get these in the US? Any downside to running slightly bigger tires such as clearance issues with fenders, etc? | ||

I get mine from Chaparral, Also the Avon Vyper Stryke, AM63, is available in 110/70/16 and 140/70/16. Carlost, where are you from? | ||

Yes they will, I had the Kenda on both bikes and they only got 3000 miles on them before showing cord. The Avon AM52 on the Little Kids Blast in the 120/80/16 size had 3000 miles on it with plenty of tread left on it when it took a nail. The Big Kids bike, I don't know how many miles it has on it, probably over 5000. The Avon Vyper Stryke AM63 in 140/70/16 fits the Blast as long as you modify the swingarm(hammer, grind?, move) the strap that mounts the lower shock mounting bracket. Its not hard to do with a 1 lb hammer and a heavy metal rod. I hit it in the center, then drove it to both sides to give clearance for the tire. The 140/70/16 tire fits with out modifying the swing arm, but when the tire gets up to speed, ie. "Fast", the tire grows, and hits the mount as evidenced by the chunks that would be removed on the tire centerline. EZ has pictures of the Vyper Stryke, and pictures of the swing arm modification was posted within the last two weeks. | ||

Swampy Thanks for the fast replies. Man this forum is great. The tires on the wifes blast are still great but we just bought an XB that sits next to it in the garage. Now she demands fatter tires. I told her we could try but wasn't sure how much bigger would fit. Looks like that will be a winter mod. Thanks again Tim | ||

Carlost, I was curious as it wasn't posted in your profile. The place to look for other Blasters is in the "Blasting around-Local Forum" on the front page of the Thumper Forum. Or look in Stormfronts section in the first Badweb page. The Blast keeps up just fine with the rest of the Buells out there, I have a friend in Detroit area, Juggallo94, that rides with the local BRAG members down there. Cecil1......Just do it! She will love you for it. When the next Vyper Stryke shows up in the brown christmas van sometime this week I will take a picture of it unmounted, it looks incredible wide, but fits just fine once its on the rim. If it gets good mileage that will be the one to get until something better comes along. Unless Dunlop is a sponser or something, I wouldn't recommend getting those anymore, they just don't wear very long. Funny thing this week end, the Little Kid just got a convertible Barbie car , and it needed tires...bad, so we dismounted and remounted one with hand tools and he said "Gee!, this is easier than doing motorcycle tires!" Well yeah, you don't have to worry about scratching the rims...LOL | ||

Carlost the blast will keep up just fine as long as you arent trying to keep up with top speeds. I can cruise along all day just fine once I finally get my nurves back for cornering. The guys just have to remember that on freeways I can only go 95. They usually just wait for me to catch up at the higher speeds before turning to a different road. | ||

I still havent been able to corner that good since doing my second stunt session in the UP. Everytime I go to lean into a turn I picture all kinds of animals scurrying for safety saying what the hell is he doing. hehehe. Oh well maybe next year. I went into a turn last spring and hit some gravel. It stood me straight up and I drove into a ditch. | ||

the smokin contest didnt happen. the dealership finally got back to me after a long wait and said no burnout contest, but there may be one at their open house. I dont deal with them anymore. I am cornering better then when it first happened, but not as good as I would like. Part of it is due to the rear avon tire having a flat spot in the center from the damn straight roads here in michigan.
