Andrew McCarthy wrote, “Civilization is not an evolution of mankind but the imposition of human good on human evil. It is not a historical inevitability. It is a battle that has to be fought every day, because evil doesn’t recede willingly before the wheels of progress.”

That article lays out what I've known for sometime, that, The whole western world has become a joke. A west which doesn't understand the above referenced quote. This is why some propose talking to "evil-doers" because it is deemed progressive, enlightened - evolutionary. However, as another famous quote puts it, "There is nothing new under the sun". Evil today is the evil of yesterday. There are two kinds of people in this world - though that impose their will and those that submit to the will of others. We are increasingly becoming the latter.

"One should respect public opinion insofar as it is necessary to avoid starvation and keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny." Bertrand Russell

What's the tactical situation surrounding the good Captain? Not much on the thread has up-to-date coverage of what's going on. I'm limited on my puny 'puter as to what I can see/access.

Anyone got good nuggets from the surveillance? Lotsa hairy eyeballs on these turds floating in the big ole punchbowl...

This has been interesting because we have no media coverage. It is like the pre-internet days where things would happen and we would not know about them until they were over. Rather refreshing.

Congrats to the Navy, good job all around. Looks like a near perfect operation.

Apparently the captain jumped overboard, and Seals took out three of the pirates. I wondered how they missed the fourth, but he was aboard a Navy ship negotiating.

The captain is said to be well, which is all that really matters. As David said, congratulations to the Navy!

Now we can argue about what happens to the fourth pirate.

"he was aboard a Navy ship negotiating"

I hope the look on his face when he found out that his posse was DOA will be on Youtube.

NYTimes.com had an article that ended with "One pirate named Ali, in Galkaiyo, Somalia, said the American Navy rescue won’t discourage other Somali pirate groups at all.

“As long as there is no just government in Somalia, we will still be the coast guard,” he said, adding: “If we get an American, we will take revenge.”"

So... they started it, but will be taking revenge?

Don't start nothing, won't be nothing.

America, F__K Yeah!

Sounds like a threat. I hope American crews heed the warning and arm themselves.

I am so thankful to see this brave guy rescued.

We need to change tactics and learn from this.

pop em off one at a time, the world will be a better place. things in africa haven't changed since i was in mombasa back in 78. back during the 70's when you had unicef and other charities trying to get food over there, you never saw that. most of that stuff that got sent over went to the black market for sale, it hardly ever made it to were it was supposed to go. of course it's just as bad today too. the guys that were doing work on the ship would get into our garbage locker scavenging for food. this stuff was sitting around for up to 3 days before a garbage barge would pull up to get rid of the garbage. we had to put a lock on the door just so they wouldn't destroy the place. bring in people like Tsvangirai and get rid of the ones like Robert Mugabe.

From 4:12pm to 5, I was listening to The Splendid Table. Great show today.

At 5pm the news came on. Leading off, the captain had been freed and rescued.!!!

They had an interview with a Frogman talking about what may have occurred. Said the lifeboad was unusual as that it had a cover (roof?), and the snipers had a "difficult" situation.

"TIME AND PERSEVERANCE ARE THE GREATEST WARRIORS." Tolstoy.

Pirates: !!!!FAIL!!!

There's a good bluegrass song I'm gonna call in and request tomorrow: "Take Me In Your Lifeboat"

Man that's good news.

We should assign a few marines to our merchant ships.
In fact, send our ships in closer.

We should be able to rid the waters of those pirates in short order.

30 yards is still a long way when you're shooting from a moving platform at a moving target.

If the captain jumped out and left the skinnies in the life boat...... its .50 time (or could of been). Headshots work I guess, but ripping things apart with a .50 is just about the most fun I had while in the Army.
Well that and filling the Lt.'s boots with sand.

On one of the broadcasts a retired navy seal eluded to a "system" which stabilizes the weapon for the most effective pink cloud shot.
Three shooters were set for the coverage in the event things went badly during "negotiations(evidently the skinny in charge didn't get the notice that America dosen't negotiate with pirates or terrorists)being conducted on the deck of the ship towing the lifeboat. As soon as the captain jumped and the three skinnys showed head-n-shoulders they were properly disposed of before the unbelieving eyes of the negotiator now in custody, fate to be determined.

God loves Navy SEALs

We must send them ,what looks like, easy targets.

Rather than navy gunboats trying to patrol the waters.

Welcome them aboard to a big surprise.

A few well placed claymores around the perimeter would go a long ways too.
