Can a guy with basic tools install a vent valve without dropping it into the tank? I am replacing the X1 keyed cap and ring for a Blast! set and when I looked under the vent fitting all there was left was a stem and spring. I assume the rest of it is at the bottom of my tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I can, but my hands are elfin in size. It's not easy. You don't need to get a wrench inside the tank, just hold the valve in place until the nut torques up.

I have big hands, and did it easily - take the whole damn ring and rubber whoosit off

Put your fingers through ring and whoosit and hold the vent with your right hand or whatever hand you are most dexterous with.

Insert the vent into the correct hole in the tank. hold it in place with one hand.

slide the rubber whoosit and the ring in position on the tank. start the vent nut onto the vent and hand tighten just enough to keep the damn thing from falling in the tank again.

Once the vent is in place, re-install the rest of the bolts into the ring and put the tighten uniformly

finish tightening the vent.

Easy! However, No way in hell I could do it without removing the ring and rubber insert.

Oh, and I just went through the "It fell into the tank thing - so that's how I know. I also learned that a magnet will not pick up the vent, but one of those picker-upper things works well to fish it out.

A child could make one of these using a strip of tin with two cuts and bent to fit.

On my 1997 S3T "i" removed the check ball and on my 2000 Blast "i" cut the valve portion off which took care of the sticking valve problem !!!

"YES" "i" ran the breather hose to a catch container !!!

In an accident, spilt fuel can catch fire.
The Fuel tank valve and the Fuel cap seal are vitally important safety components which should function correctly.

I've got small hands and it was easy to install the vent with everything on the filler inlet. YMMV.

Peeling tank paint, failed lock on fuel cap, defective vent valve, bubbled tank stickers, fuel pump died.
Were these things made in China?

the 99532-02Y rock is really only required for the beam frame (XB) models.

No rocks were hurt, injuered, or destroyed in the making of these parts. Do not attempt repairs at home as resulting damage to glass and sheetrock may occur.

Oops...I sure didn't mean that to happen! I was just trying to show that it's a rather simple tool and the geometric details.
