My 2000 Blast is stumping me. It starts/idles fine, but sputters when given throttle, and will die out if I don't return throttle to idle position. Intake boot looks fine (yes i took it off), I tried opening the gas tank to vent...no change. I changed spark plug, and tried new gas. I also went through the carb and cleaned the float bowl and took out jets and blew air thru the holes. The diaphram looked good too. I am NOT sure what the wires going to the carb do, but I unplugged that cluster and ran it that way, but no change in performance. SO... now I am wondering if there is something else I should check on the carb, or am I looking at an Ignition Module check?? Does anyone know how to test the module?
PLS help me think this thru...thanks

Your boot is bad. I might "look" fine, but it isn't.

Replace it.

If that doesn't fix it. Replace it again and be more careful when you install it.

IF that STILL doesn't fix it - it might be something else.

Alright ya'll...I'll try a new intake boot. The reason I was thinking ignition module was my problems started after my taillight fell off and the wiring harness got chewed under the rear tire, blew a fuse...i thought maybe it had shorted something and harmed my ig.mod.
HAHA that episode sucked..it happened on my way home after buying the thing..the owner had rigged up the light after "integrating" the signals by duct taping some bulbs inside the taillight and took the fender/plate holder off the back and didnt' secure the light very well.

Welcome Jeeprock!
A clogged slow jet will do this (as you've checked). The kickstand safety switch will also cause this.
The kickstand safety switch is easily disabled by unplugging it and splicing the 2 wires together.
It really sounds like you've gone through everything though, so let us know after you change the boot.

I think we oughta start a Blast horror story thread. Yours is not an uncommon story as is the recent posting by Krid80 who lent his newly acquired Blast out for a short ride and it came back having been dumped.
We hear these 2 stories over and over!

Thanks for reminding me gearhead. Just kidding. I'm bringing mine back better than ever! Dominators, Mini Signals, Flat Black Paint, it's gonna rock!

OK I tried the new boot...no difference!! I did take the carb apart one more time, and cleaned everything with carb cleaner and blew out jets again. Took the float off..seems to be working fine also. The ONE thing I haven't checked yet is my fuel filter. But I drained the tank and it appears to flow freely. I'm bummed because I had to cancel my license road test...unless I want to idle my way through the test!

Did you try disconnecting the kick-stand switch as Erik sugested? Try disabling all the swiches, the clutch safety - thi and other topics in this section may help as well -

& the Tilt sensor as well - info in racing section. Restore if no change.

Torn Diaphram or leaking Float?

I've read many references to an online manual for our Blasts, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone have the link? Thanks.
