I had taken the Blast in for a repair estimate after the accident. I just got off the phone after talking to the service writer at Fletchers. The estimate to repair my Blast is $4736.00.

I can't tell you how upset I am about that. I had visions of having her back up and running in a week or so. Don't think that's gonna happen now.

Wonder how much the insurance company will give me for her now?

Very thoughtful of you guys but the insurance company will want the bike to part out. I will try to get it at decent price because most of the cost I'm sure come from replacing thing that are scraped up. If it runs safely what do I care about scratches.

Depending on how much AllState gives me for it, I may move up to an XB12XT. There is a used 08 at the dealership that has less than a thousand miles. I'm really jonesing for that bike. If I can come out of this deal with two bikes where is the down side??

Any body got an idea what a reasonable offer would be for a stock XT with less than 1000 miles?

I don't know the situation on this bike but I do know it's a consignment bike. The story I got was that some business man bought the bike as bonus for a key employee. Right after the bike was bought they had a falling out and the employee quit. This left the business owner with a bike he really didn't want.

I'm hoping that he just wants out from under it enough to deal a little more.

My Blast was totaled, but they only wanted $90 for me to buy it back. I got $1490, and paid $90 to keep my Blast. Fixed it for something like $300 or less.

$90 buck?? I'd jump on that like buzzards on a gut wagon. I just know that I could get her running again for next to nothing. Blasts are so rugged that it'll take more than a street barracaide to kill it.

Only problem might be the title. In Florida once a vehicle has been totaled they label it so on the title. Wouldn't matter to me but I might not be able to get insurance on it at that point.

Zane - When I laid mine down, the dealership quoted me $3000 to fix it. When I called them back, and said, I didn't care about scratches, and just wanted to make it ridable, they replaced the shifter peg assembly for $40, and I bought new turn signals and straightened out all of the mounting hardware for the windscreen. Total to fix everything was about $85. Unless the frame is totally bent, I would think that you would be able to salvage it for a pretty cheap amount. You may also want to call your dealer up, and see what they would suggest parts wise just to get it ridable. They may totally change their story (since obviously insurance isn't going to pay to fix it) and do the same thing to you that they did to me.

I dont remember what happened to your bike but...
as evidenced, bikes that get 'totaled' can often be put back on the street for very little money (mine-$5000. actual cost less that $100).Example: A scratched frame will cost $500 and 8+ hours labour to replace. It costs nothing if you dont care about the scratch.
The insurance company can not keep you from getting the bike back. It can however charge a huge amount for storage and estimates.
They say it will have salvage on the title. Mine is and it doesnt. DO NOT let your insurance lapse on the bike. If you do, they may not re insure it. If you dont, they probably wont be the wiser and wont even ask to see the bike when its done (heck, mines got full coverage now). Selling may be the issue, but if you get enough $$ for your bike, who cares? I've also heard of people paying the $90 (above) and $300 or less to keep their bike. I paid $900 to keep my mine, but the estimate for repair (and replacement) was a $1000 more because all accessories (and improvements) were listed.
Keep it, fix it and buy the XT.

Sounds like a plan to me. My almost 15 year old needs a bike to practice on and the Blast would be perfect for that. If it's all scratched up and ratty looking who cares. As long as it runs good. If I can get it, I plan to. Just like Gearheaderiko points out, I know that most the cost is for cosmetic stuff. New Plastics and frame (from scratches only) New handle bars (bent) Lots of scratched up components that work fine but had scratches on them. In the junk year before it when to the HD dealer it turned over. Sure as God made little green apples, I know I could get it running again in a hour or two. This just seems like a chance to keep my baby and move up at the same time.

Dude: Keep the body work scratched as-is and replace what has to be replaced. The scratches are just cool stories. You can remind the 15-year-old that every time he sees those scratches that it's proof hell does happen and he needs to wear his gear all the time.....

Can't blame this on my son. I laid it down in traffic Dec 19th. I wasn't hurt bad. Just some road rash and torn Meniscus in my right knee.

I talked to the tech who wrote the estimate and he said it was mostly cosmetic. Had to write it for a new frame because of the scratches but who cares about a few (or a lot of) scratches. I've already broached the idea of buying it back from All State. I talked to the office staff but have not talked to the field rep yet. I should know something by the end of this week.

I had wanted to upgrade to a 12XT but there isn'tone to be had anywhere near me. There was a sweet one at my local dealer that I coveted but it's gone. It was there on consignment but the owner pulled it off the floor and drove off. Not sure it he is going to ride it or use it as a trade on for a ricer. Either way the sumbytch drove off with "MY" motorcycle. Next nearest one is about 250 miles away.

No, I took my baby over to the Fletcher's and they wrote an estimate for $4736. I asked Allstate about buying it back but that isn't gonna happen either. Seems in Florida the law has changed. Instead of a salvage title, they issue a Certificate of Destruction. There is no getting it back. Right now I'm thinking hard about an XB12XT but may have to get a Blast too. They're just too much fun not to have one. I guess the thumper bug has bitten me. I may have to wait until my finances are squared away after the divorce but I can most definetly see another Blast in my life.

On the plus side, I'll get my knee fixed next week. I still have to use a cane and that is getting old. It detracts from my macho image...lol

So you can't just work a backdoor deal to fix the non-consmetic damage, and not turn it in?

Sounds like all you need is a new/used frame with title. I assume the insurance company is going to pay you? Make sure they give you enough. As previously said, if they wont give you enough money for it I'd see about canceling the whole claim.

Also Fast1075 is looking for an engine. Your bike is perfect for parting it out (which is whats going to happen to it anyway).

FWIW: I and others have been told that the insurance company can just take your bike. I dont believe that to be true. I think they can make it undesirable for you to keep it by paying a high buy back. Anyway, I just dont want to see you get burned.

I feel like I'm coming out of this ok. I've met my family deductible so all the medical stuff is covered at 100%

They are giving me with in $50 of what I paid for the bike and helmet. So I'm out $50 bucks but I save a bucket of cash on gas when it was $4.00 a gallon. The only issue is that I don't have a bike any more. That's ok, May is coming.

He's just trying to keep up with me!!! (3 engines).

Zane, sounds like you're making out okay. With mine, if I'd let the bike go, it would have cost me an additional $2000+ to have basically the same bike I had before the crash. Keeping the bike, it cost me $100 to put it back on the road and I got $2000 cash (from insurance) for new modifications!

Honestly, with as many people as I know looking for parts and knowing that most crashed bikes will end up being parted out, I try to cut out the middle man. Thats one reason I hate seeing a fellow Blaster give up what could be a seriously good deal on a parts bike.: )

For you guys that are looking for an engine, I called All State and was told that she most likely went to Copart’s in Riverview, Florida. The phone number is 813-671-5550.

I hate to see my baby in a salvage yard and I'd be greatly pleased if her heart was transplanted into something that would do her justice.
