Has anybody put fork gaiters on a Uly? Also looking for the thread on the Xb9 pulley swap. |

Haven't see gaiters done yet. Look for XB9 primary swap. I don't know that anybody's posted a step-by-step on it though. Buy the parts from your dealer or the kit from American Sport Bike and do the install by the shop manual. |

Here ya go, Moose Racing Fork Skins:
Been on the bike for a couple years and 20K+ I'd guess, no more fork leaks due to brake rotor crap and/or road junk killing the seals. They're the long ones, 47mm and up IIRC, cut in half so I still have a spare set somewhere... |

I put the seal saver brand on mine, I ordered the long ones and then cut them to the lenght I needed. You have to remove the forks to slide them down from the top but its a piece of cake and doesn't take very long. I put these on after blowing both fork seals on the Dalton Highway in AK. Not a cheap fix when your on the road without the proper tools to change fork seals. |

Xbimmer, Which size did you order? |

E-glider, IIRC it was the large diameter, long sleeves. http://www.mooseracing.com/catalog.jsp?level1=1756 &level2=1782&level3=1797&product_group_id=7288 The smaller (up to 43mm) diameter seemed way too skinny for me to stretch down over the outer tubes. The (up to 50mm) larger size fits snug and has been doing the job. Cut each in half and they fit perfectly around the tubes down to the axle castings. I bought them off the rack at a local power sports shop so I was able to compare. HTH. |

Is it possible to slide those on by removing/loosening the bolts without pulling the front brake & wheel? |

Is it possible to slide those on by removing/loosening the bolts without pulling the front brake & wheel? I don't think so. You would run out of brake line slack pretty quick. Removing the front wheel is extremely quick and easy, as long as you remember the axle nut is LH thread. Combine it with a fork oil service, and you get a 2 for 1. |

Here's the XB9 primary procedure I made a while back on an 06: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/425775.html |

Tootal - thanks for the link & info. Arctick - being too lazy, I guess. Probably don't need to do much to the forks at 4k miles. Thanks for the input. |

Xbimmer - OK - to be clear. You DO or DONT have to remove the forks to install ? Can't you just slide the Fork skins up from the bottom by removing the front wheel ? |

Jphish, you DO have to remove the forks to install these gaiters. Take a look at the brake caliper and fender brackets on the bottom of the sliders and you can see that there is no way to get slide the skins over them. |

Yeah that's what I did. When this first came up I asked the same question you did because I also didn't have my bike accessible. I've had too much trouble with fork seals on my Beemer and although the Uly protects them better, I knew that without the gaitors/seals on them that they would inevitably give me trouble. |

Jphish, what Glenn said. Forks need to be removed, I installed mine when replacing the seals and the forks were apart. I suppose they could be stretched down from the top, over the outer tubes, but I can't answer to that. I plan to replace the boots, seals and bushings again if the need arises, or as PM at 70-75K. |

Has anybody put fork gaiters on a Uly? ...........O~'O Our Pikes Peak race bikes have them and more. If you are doing any amount of dirt & gravel riding, it will save your fork seals. ~jammer |

Quote for Xbimmer, "I suppose they could be stretched down from the top, over the outer tubes, but I can't answer to that." This is how I put mine on. I think I used a little WD40 to help them slide. |

Moose Racing instructions say to soak them in water first to slide easier. But what do they know? |

This is the product we use on our Hare Scramble race bikes with great success. I prefer to be able to remove them for cleaning. Shock Sox - Removable http://www.munnracing.com/ My supplier, look here on this page for a link to the Shock Sox or from the Shock Sox website - http://www.shocksoxmx.com/products.php The off road Shock Sox should work with no problems and are a little cheaper than the "street" version.
