Servicing Dealership: |
Vallejo's great [Donnie & Deanna of our late, lamented Modesto shop were simply the best]
Performance Mods!: |
SE CF ham can; dyno-rejetted Keihin; Nallin stage 2 XL heads; XB head covers with PCV-breather set; jetcoated header; V&H stainless 'muffler'; new OEM XL cases, bored for 90" Millennium barrel/piston kit; SE cylinder studs; statically/dynamically-balanced rebuilt OEM crank; SE 536 cams; cut-down cam/oil pump case; updated bronze oil pump gear; Baker shift drum; updated 2nd gear; RaceTech fork springs & Gold valves; EBC front/Braking Wave rear discs
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): |
too many to mention, tho' I must say that Buell's warranty folks were very generous, especially when so skillfully pressured by Modesto [how we all miss em] to get everything done. During the 1st 2 years, the plethora of niggling tuber failures and recalls rarely cost me any riding time - I was a fortunate exception. The 7-year, HD-branded extended warranty was among my very best decisions - with over 35k miles now [way beyond the original guarantee] it's been a wallet saver - if purchased when new, factory's extended factory warranty can be extended again! Take a lesson....
Other Mods/Misc/Customization.: |
many black powdercoated parts; left fork leg caliper mounts + airbox tang removed; Pegasus 'points' & derby covers; factory tank bag; Ventura rack system; giant Oxford expandable soft saddlebags + S3 bag side brackets; aftermarket helmet lock; stick-on clock; LED 2nd taillite bar
Favorite Rides (Roads and Routes): |
Isle of Man circuit, 1-way immediately after TT practice closes; Stage Road near Pescadero; Mt. Hamilton to The Junction to Patterson & back to Mines Road, then coasting down Mt. Diablo to North Gate; route of the infamous Sunday Morning Ride in Marin County; Alps, baby!!
Why I do/don't ride a Buell: |
This built M2's as much fun as I can remember having in 40+ years of street riding - it's a hoot.
How can Buell improve their motorcycles?: |
[1] eliminate storied "leaned-over braking becoming standing-up braking" handling characteristic; [2] continue what's been improved for the XBs & Helicons - higher alternator output; better reliability; ever-lighter weight components; height/seat/bodywork interchangeability that eases bike personalization.
Life History/Philosophy: |
Simply riding puts most things right. Discover competent techs and keep them happy. Find folks who ride at or above your level and then pile on the miles with them - brand group riding suggestions include Buell, Ducati & Triumph gatherings.
Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): |
140, outside Las Vegas on a '94 ZX9 - now, I wanna break 150mph @ Bonneville
Preferred engine oil (brand/grade): |
circa '99: "H-D 20W50 - ya mean there's another oil?" currently, Terry @ Sears Point Dyno Shack says, "run Redline 20W50 M/C"
