Any suggestions on what to repack a V&H SS2R exhaust with besides the replacement material from V&H. It seemed to disappear faster then the stock packing. I've heard of people using steel wool. Any thoughts? |

So, I'm changing my primary fluid right now and I'm following this very helpful how-to http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/20873.html?1246070075 and at the end of the reassembly it says replace the cover and "don't forget the spring." I didn't see any spring. Am I missing something? Is there a spring in the bottom of my primary case now? If so, please tell me it's easy to get out. |

{The first Walley I caught.....came off the stringer!} Sounds like a fishy story to me Swampy. Hey sorry I didn't contact you, that's twice now within a year that I've been in Plainwell and haven't been able to visit. I was there for only half a day to pick up a minivan full of baby toys and clothes along with a very big dog to drive across country to Cali. Anyways talkin to my daughter in law she mentioned a former co-worker of her dads who recently bought a Blast. Hence the question about Rich from Shelbyville. One of these times when I am out there I will try harder to get in touch with you. |

Setting the primary chain tension... I did this today (and installed a new Iridium NGK plug)... It was rattling a bit, so I set the tension by tightening it until it started to slow, then turned it back, and about 5 or 6 flats out (1 turn), it started rattling again. Is that rattle normal on the primary chains when adjusted properly? It's not terrible, but there's definitely a bit of a rattle. |

Acr: What exactly are the symptoms you see? "Holding battery" implies it's keeping the battery topped off, or at least holding voltage, but it's not charing the drain from starting? What voltages are you seeing on the terminals? If it's dropping slightly while at idle, that's fairly normal on motorcycles - most of them don't actually keep up while at idle. NOTE: I HAVE NOT DONE CHARGING SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING ON A BLAST SO THIS IS SPECULATIVE. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. You should have a set of 3 wires coming off the stator - they're typically yellow and fairly large. Check the AC voltage between the different sets and to ground - they should all have similar readings and the voltages should go up with increasing engine RPM. Also, check resistance on the various legs as well as to ground. None of them should be shorted to ground (if they are, that's definitely a bad stator), and the resistances should be roughly the same between them - low values are fine, but they should be in the same ballpark. If that all checks out, check the output of the regulator. It should be a sane DC voltage, ~14v while running above an idle, with no significant AC component on it. If you measure a significant AC component, you've got a fried diode, and should replace the regulator. If the voltage is unstable or well out of a sane range, it's the regulator as well. The regulator should be on the underside of the tail section, crammed up against the engine. I'm not entirely sure how to get to the leads going into and out of it, but that would be a good place to start with your voltmeter. |

... the more I look at those Mac Motorcycle pictures, the more I ZOMG WANT. My girlfriend is convinced of their merits as well and wants one too... Anyone know when they'll be available in the US? My objections to using the Blast motor have largely disappeared after rejetting, opening the intake, putting in good plugs, etc. 50hp in a "hot" config would be just awesome in one of those bikes. |

Here's a quickie question. The transmission vent hose that is sometimes used to put oil back in--is it the hose that goes into the top, just in front of the starter? I'm 94% sure it is, but I really want confirmation before I stick a quart of oil in a strange place accidentally. |

Good! I already did it. Found a spout hose at Advance Auto that can be crammed into the end of that hose. It looks like it was made to be done that way! Time to go Blasting! Woohoo! After not running for over a year, she didn't quite have enough electrons to start, so I had to put her on a charger for 5 minutes to get her to start. After running for maybe 10 minutes, I stopped, left the headlight on for 5 minutes, and almost didn't start again. After 10 years, do you think I might need to replace the original battery soon? ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/beater.gif) |

That project got put on hold for a bit, but I'm gearing up to get back on it in the next few weeks. That whole auto-tuning thing is a bit tougher than I thought it would be. I'm working on the same thing Swampy did a while back--divorce. I figure in the next few weeks, I can really get back on it. For now, I'm using the stock ignition because my last program didn't work worth a darn, and I didn't feel like reprogramming it just yet. |

I have an update on the blast charging problem, It is "holding" voltage, the local shop checked the battery and put a charge on it and it is keeping the 11.6 volt charge and slowly dwindles down as I go around town. I check the voltage while it is running and it is about the same at 11.6. I tried taking the positive off the battery and it dies. This is all I know, any help would be appreciated. |
