Welcome Jzink0883 Yes, there is a 2009 BLAST. No, BLASTs are not fuel injected(that would be awesome if they were) I haven't heard of ABS for the BLAST, although the BLAST already has awesome stopping power. (Message edited by garlic_sauce on July 12, 2009) |

Its on the website, but not in the brochure Fuel injection probably wont come until the Blast is heavily updated (redesigned), but I think its now the only HD/Buell bike that isnt fuel injected. The big HD touring bikes now have ABS. I think it will eventually work its way through the HD/Buell lineup, but the Blast would be last on that list and an unlikely candidate (unless they do a redesign).AKA: Never! |

I have a bunch of questions and am not sure where to post them. 1. When I first start my bike I wait for the idle to kick down, and then take off. It seems after about five miles the idle picks right back up. Just like it does when i start it in the morning, but it doesn't drop down. 2. The primary adjustment. Is the spacer that everyone talks about the washer looking thing between the jamnut and the case. Could an out of adjustment primary make a noise like a card in a bicycle wheel. 3. Rejetting the carb. Has anyone noticed any piston damage by pouring more fuel into the combustion chamber and a hotter spark (the irridum plug) and do I have to replace the jets to turn out the air/fuel mixture screw or is it just a good idea to change it all at once. Also does rejetting the carb provide more power or just a smoother power transition throughout the RMP's 4. Can you really put 2.8 gallons of fuel into the tank? I can only fit about 1.8/2.0 bone dry. 5. I have about about 1-1.5inches of freeplay in my clutch lever is this normal. This is my first bike and am not sure what to expect. I'm waiting for my service book and hope that it answers most of my questions. Thank You once agian. |

1. you may have a bad carb boot. 2 with the spacer in place the primary chain is running VERY loose, and yes that could cause a card in a bicycle wheel noise. 3. no, rejetting the carb to a larger size will not damage your engine, infact your engine will thank you for it. yes, all at once. yes both. 4. just stop for fuel every 70-80 miles and your butt will love you. 5. no, after making the internal adjustment with the cable sleeve all the way shortened, adjust the free play so that you can fit the thickness of a nickle between the lever and the bracket. I understand what I just typed but maybe it isn't clear to others. a service manual is a valuable tool, any year will work. (I am not capitalising anything today, you ought to see my inspection reports! LOL!) |

The spacer is in the shape of a "C", is about 3/8" thick and you wont see any bolts threads if its there (except in the "C" part of the spacer). Yes the Blast will take 2.8 Gallons of fuel. On the last SLO ride I put in 2.54 gallons, but it was a nerve wracking experience riding that last 50 miles to the nearest gas station! Of course nowhere does it say how they get 2.8 gallons. Is that filling to 1 inch below the rubber in the fuel tank (as recommended) or is it to as full as full can get? Are you turning to "reserve" on the petcock? 2 gallons is about normal befor hitting reserve. |

Hello!! I just bought a buell blast about 3 weeks and 300 miles ago, and i like it a lot. I'm even pleased with the crazy engine vibrations, which no doubt everyone on this thread probably is! However, I went on a long weekend ride with some buddies, and I flogged the bike pretty good-- I got it up to 92, which for me is an achievement--maybe i didn't notice it before, but now the bike is vibrating so much, my plastic gas tank cover is vibrating so loudly at a certain RPM that it's louder than my bike! Is this normal with other P3s? Could it be my motor mounts? (my bike only has 830 miles on it. Please advise me-- if not, I'll be forced to ask the dealership guys for cash! We all know that's not fun Thanks! |

Welcome Tsandfor! Ask the dealership guys for cash??? Did you get a warranty with it? I'd use it if you did. Or it sounds like it might have been a Riders Edge bike? My guess is the tank cover isnt fully seated. My second guess would be the mounts. Do you have a tank bra installed? Has the bike been apart for any reason you know of? |

I've searched around and it seems everyone has a different opinion on adjusting the primary. Is there no concenses on this or is it just a matter of personal preferance? To make sure the primary is always turning, it is due for an adjustment. I'm just having a hard time tracking down my tick. The boot is fine no cracks. I replaced it about 400 miles ago and just rechecked it to be sure. So the idle jump is a mystery to me. New question though Decel pop. This is usually caused by a lean running engine? So when I get to the dealership and rejet the carb problem might go away? It's not really a problem just mildly annoying. Thanks once agian |

Thanks for the quick response and warm reception! I actually bought it from a woman doctor and they took perty good care of it-- It was shiny new when i got it I was thinkin the same thing about the tank cover not being fully seated, so I pulled it up and stuck some felt strips along the inside-- i gave it a test drive later and found out that it still vibrated just as badly, so I'm gonna take it out again tomorrow. Ya i was thinking it might be the mounts too! My forward mount looks like it has a crack in the rubber towards the front of the mount-- is that normal? At any rate, I'll be taking it in for it's 1000 mile service at the harley dealership here... cuz I'm not sure is there any way I can post a picture of my mount on the site for you to look at? I appreciate the advice! |

A few upgrades on the way. But first, thanks where it is due to EZ for answering probably 6 - 7 of my ridiculously sophomoric emails pertaining to mods. Also, to those who are lurking and curious about a Blast purchase, particularly from a HD dealer that ran RE courses, I would suggest that if the bike is close enough to 1000 miles, get the 1000 mile service done right away. My 2006 had 561 miles on it when I purchased it. I got the service done at 950, and it feels like night and day. I would not have minded paying the extra ~200 off the bat just to have that service done (assuming you are wrench illiterate like me). On the way: * Jardine RT-One Full Exhaust System * Jardine Quiet Module Insert (don't knock it, I really do care about my long term hearing and I always wear ear plugs) * Rejet to 45/175, adjust fuel air mix screw * The cooler burning IR plug (NGK 9) * Shimming the carb needle. Oh yeah, I also might suggest the use of the Dowco cheap tail bag over the Cortech tail bag. It's about 35 bucks at MS, and it attaches view loops to passenger foot pegs and the tail fender. And then your bag won't go flying off on the highway. It looks terrible, but I'd rather have better function than losing all my stuff again. |

Welcome Jrm8486! Part # 50494-01Y TANK BRA FOR BLAST MODELS Retail Price:$39.95 or "Buell Blast tank mask kit" may still be found in dealer old stock since the part number still comes up as good. Appleton HD/Buell (a Badweb sponsor)has been very good at finding 'obselete' parts for me or call your local Buell dealer and give them the part number. Occasionally they come up on e-bay and for sale in the Badweb classifieds (check both forums). Sponsors: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/17143.html If you use a sponsor dont forget to mention that you found them here on Badweb. It may even get you a discount (but you'll have to ask) |

thanks, couldnt find it. 1 more question. will the tall stack from american sport bike fit inside the stock airbox? the way i ride i get some excess fuel slobber in my airbox and thought with a taller stack it might keep more in the carb. |

Hello all, it's been a while since I posted last. I really haven't had a reason thanks to you guys! I'm looking to juice it up a bit, and drop a B50 cam into it. What else within reason should I do while it's stripped down? Any input would be great! |

The B50's only entail partial rocker disassembly and cam cover removal. Fairly simple. Install the High Performance Oil Pump Drive Gear ( American Sport Bike ) is a must while you're in there. You could upgrade the engine mounting and install the 3rd (2000 Blast only) tie bar. Are you looking to take more apart? |

not too much more. I'm not going to split the case and bore it out for the 600 or anything.(In my dreams but not at this time) I'm thinking of the cam and stiffer springs(while I'm there). Just trying to get the midrange power up a bit. Also wondering about the pushrods, if they needed to be or should be upgraded. I don't have the extra cash for the 10.5 piston and the machine work at this time but if I read the earlier posts right these upgrades should come first. Am I wrong should I start somewhere else. I've done the airbox mod, rejetting, shimming and irridum spark plug. Thanks agian. |

Stiffer valve springs require head removal (although theoretically possible to do the springs without removing the head, you'll probably have to remove the engine from the frame as there isnt much room to work). Stiffer springs are only required if you go beyond the stock rpm limit or use 'bigger' cams than the B50's. Going beyond the stock rpm limit requires a new ignition module. Bigger cams require modified valve guides. Also, if you have to remove the head, you might as well do the piston. Then add better lifters, adjustable pushrods, get more headwork done, etc. Just do the cams and oil pump drive gear. Nothing else needs to be upgraded for that and would be just a waste of money. Further upgrades require more disassembly. If you want to go further then its best to have a plan and set aside a chunk of change to do it (or start collecting parts). As I've often said, bolting on the XB top end is the easiest most reliable and cheapest way to upgrade the Blast top end. You've basically done a stage 2 head, upped the compression ration, improved the combustion chamber, raised the rpm limit to 7500rpm and added B70 cams, all from stock factory parts. I know this approach isnt for everybody, I just know how many of these parts I've gotten cheaply. |

Your including the XB cam and piston as well in that formula - just to be clear - correct? EZ |

Just to be clear and make sure I read everything and did my homework correctly. Adding a B50 cam will not let me do 120 but will make 0-90 a bit more fun. I do not need to upgrade anything but the oil pump drive gear. So a parts list would be Cam, Oil pump drive gear, Crankcase gasket and the seal. Just for more info will an XB head, piston, and cam bolt on with little or no modifications. Thanks Agian. You guys are awsome! |

you will need the rocker box to head and the rocker box cover to rocker box gaskets. |

I guess the only question left is what is the best sponser to get the parts from? |

Revolution Performance has the camshafts and should also have gaskets and the HiPo oil pump drive gear. American Sport Bike has the oil pump drive gear, probably the gaskets and maybe the cams. Cams are $199, dont pay more! The oil pump drive gear is $50 and isnt necessary for the cam change, but it is the weak link and prone to failure in the early years. If it goes bad it could cost you your engine and at minimum your oil pump. |

Hello all I finally scrounged up enough money to get my cams and waiting impatientaly on the mail. Anyway after I took her on a short ride today I noticed a little oil seeping around the front where the cylinder and case bolt together. Is this a common leak? and to fix I'll assume everythings got to come off the top, so i guess how hard will it be to fix and will I have to drop out the entire unit to get the cylinder off? I'm glad it's still winter outside makes it a little bearable to want to tear it all apart. Thanks agian. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL (happy b-day EZ) |

Thank you - You can take the piston out with the cylinder, simplifying things, don't drop the clip or pin into the bottom end, and get new ones - careful - replace the old style paper gaskets with the new style and your problems will be over. It was a common problem on all HD bikes - cured by fleet wide updating of gaskets. Sorry not a recall, just an update - sorely oveerdue - lol - EZ |

Not sure where to post this but can anyone tell me if an aftermarket pulley cover {machined aluminum} for an XB will bolt up on a Blast? I.E. are the mount locations the same? Thank you. Joel |

I can't believe it's been a month since the post just before Joel's. Where have all the Blasters gone? Are all the new 1125 owners ignoring their Blasts (like I am)? Hang in there Joel - somebody will know. |
