You can get the adjustable pushrod covers from our sponsors - try Revolution orAmerican Sport Bike - same for the Adjustable pushrods - both are popular mods - |

Oh, the devil is a tricky one,eh? I guess I've lost my 'Blast cred' on the street. But now you want Sportster pushrod covers? The Dark Sides' pull grows even stronger... Seriously, the rocker cover still has to be removed to install the adjustable pushrods, but you can just cut everything out (carefully) without pulling the head. Although they do sell 'fast install' pushrods and pushrods with 2 adjusters, neither apparently will let you install them on a P3 or XB without still removing the rocker covers. Revolution Performance carries the Blast parts (1/2 XB). Yes I have them on both bikes! |

I bought a buell blast in november for my son it is a 2002 with only 6000 miles on it and was sitting a long time the rear belt is loose and the transmission feels sloppy is this normal or did someone mess with its odometer which is what I think happend, had like two cups of water in the transmission primary case and ridding home almost wiped out because it mixed with the oil and came out the crankcase breather hose and got that foam all over the rear of the bike and almost wiped out, bought it from a dealership on ebay said runs great for a bike that has 6000 miles and a 2002, and had been in a accident to, but as is and he gave me a first gear heated jacket for the work I had to do to it but if a new rider bought this bike I can see a disaster happening, got it running alright grinds going into gear and been buying parts of ebay for it and the exhaust just broke and picked one up for 25 dollars and almost new, is this bike worth keeping or should I get rid of it, I thought I was getting a good deal for 1300.00 but has been a pain in the ass. Baggermike, I feel for you. Keep the bike, once you get it set up, it is a really fun little machine. The low power and good handling are addictive. My blast had far less miles and many problems as well. A lot of these seemed to come from poor initial assembly and then really bad maintenance after that followed by neglect. Here is how I wish I had done it from the start on getting a used Blast. 1. Replace the belt. ($75) 2. Change the engine oil. ($20) 3. Change the carb boot and clean the carb. ($12) 4. Replace the tires just because they are old and oily. ($120) 5. Adjust the clutch, shifter pawl and clutch pins as per the discussion under Primary Adjusting. That really tightened up the shifting and made it grind a lot less in first. I think they are all clunky in first. I can't overstate how much difference this made.($50) 6. Go through everything, check the timing and look over every bolt and adjustment that could be mucked up. Doing a thorough dis and re assembly solved almost everything on mine. It took me a couple afternoons to go through it all, but now it is like a new machine. Keep it and enjoy. One note of warning. Once you take it apart and realize how simple it is to fix everything and how fun the bike is, you will start to modify it. At first it is just a corbin seat (1" higher seat pan is great for 5'11" guys) and new bars. Then the exhaust, now the piston. Maybe a top case for a longer ride. Dreams of a flat track frame will start......Just a warning, they aren't kidding about the lure of the dark side. Paul |

Concur (mostly)! Welcome to the Thumper side Mike. Take the time to sort it out and you'll have a dependable little bike. The belt may only seem loose (it is non adjustable). DONT buy Dunlop tires for it! The gears (1st-2nd) dont have to crunch. Proper clutch adjustment and patience helps a lot. I have 2 Blasts. A daily driver and a raceBlast. Both get flogged mercilessly and they rarely need more than regular, normal maintenance. Both drive belts are also approaching 15000 miles. (keep in mind I do not abuse them, just ride them hard) |

Welcome Baggermike! Keep the bike, you will learn to love it. The transmission vent tube lays along the seat support frame and a vigirous washing under the seat will cause water to flow right into the vent tube and fill the trans with water. There are other posts in the Thumper forum about this happening. So replace the fluid, make the primary adjustment, and then make the clutch adjustment and if that doesn't fix it adjust the shifter pawl. Then route the trans vent tube to a place where it is not laying on the bottom of the seat frame tube. Do you live in Boston? That would be the perfect place for a Blast. |

God - you guys are good! They are right - its a great bike - simple enough to work on, yet very reliable once you know the tricks - economical yet a world of fun to ride - the above suggestions are dead on and I would add chamfering the edges of the Stator Wire Protection plate to better protect the wires it protects as a added must while your there as well - lol Welcome! Hi guy's thanks for the advise, I love single cyclenders and reading how to build the motor up sounds good, I know I need to take it apart and rebuild it, I am getting parts off ebay and I bought the bike for my son to learn on and I have a ulysses which I am giving him for lending me the money to buy the 1125R, I think I will keep the blast to if he does not want it, I will have him read the post and he can decide what to do, I have seen some nice custom blast's, I grew up with four stroke dirt bikes and moved to a harley in 1982 when they came out with the xlx with flat track bars on it and they are easy to fix so I got a jump on things, keep the post comming I like the sound of a 700cc or biger single, I read suzuki has a 800 or 850 single but I am a american and buy american, I love the ulysses but it is to tall for me, now I got to talk to my son to see what he thinks? I know I can build a good bike out of it, do they handle as good as the bigger buells, this one feel weird when I ride but my son like it and it is good for him to learn on. Thanks and have happy holidays and be safe. mike |

B. Nallin said said 809cc would be as far as you could go without totally remaking the case - lol - 6500 to 6800rpm max and that the big trick would be balancing the crank enough and lighten it enough to minimize vibration and retain power, but he felt pretty confident that he could keep it bearable vibrationally - Thats custom crank and jugs and filling and re-drilling cylinder mounting points, don't forget to upgrade the oil gear and all bearings - all would have to be done with a totally stripped case - then reassembly - hell if you went that far - please do the Baker 6 speed for a better tranny as well - add Works and rear-sets - let the good times roll - but damn that is one pricey Blast! Hey guys you got me really thinking I just bought a buell 1125r to go to race school and get my licence and do track days, I also am giving my ulysses to my son because he is lending me the money to buy the bike. I gave him the blast for his 18th bithday in noverber I new it was a good learner bike and knew he would like it and wanted to make his 18th birthday special, and thought a bike would be something he would remember for the rest of his life. I grew up with thumpers and riding around boston, which the ulysses is good for jumping curbs, and a good touring bike, but now I am thinking of building a blast race bike, and seeing you guy's posts, and that it can be bored and stroked for around 800cc bike, has me drooling, so if anyone with any websites I can go on and see these parts that are available would be great, and to think about a little single cyclender race bike would be cool, I have reseached racing and so many rules, but it seems that single piston bikes rule, and basically anything goes when it comes to a single cyclender race bike, plus it is american iron, and I hate the jap bikes, so keep the info comming and have good holidays. Anybody guess why penguins walk the way they do? Anyways I was inspecting a bus out in BFE on some Bus Bozo's driveway, my mommy van was parked on the snow next to the driveway so I would have a solid surface to ramp the bus on. I was doing my penguin walk around to the back of the van to get the ramps out when I hit some ice and went down! Lucky the van was there to break my fall! My left arm hit the bumper and my head banged against the back door. Frickin' snow and ice, and I am too poor to buy snowmobile registrations to go sledding this year and enjoy the snow. The other bus inspector retired yesterday, so that leaves three inspectors in the state, so they say I can't get hurt because they can't afford to replace the retired guy. The rest of you guys enjoy the warm weather, if it wasn't for us guys guarding the northern border you all would be overrun with Canadians. |

BaggerMike. Racing...hmmm Does the Blast handle as well as the bigger Buells?" Well, no. Its suspension is non adjustable (but can be modified). It does handle very well though. Twitchy when upright, lean it over and its much more stable. Its also much cheaper to throw down the track than your new 1125R. My opinion is the 1125R will make you faster on the Blast and the Blast will make you faster on the 1125R! Check the race rules for the track/organization you want to run. A heavily modified big bore Blast might put you the slowest bike in the race, well behind much more sophisticated bikes. A modified stock/stock bore Blast might be very competitive. Which is a better way to go can depend on what the locals are running. You might also be in a class by yourself. Do you want to win? Just mix it up on the track? Build a very fast Blast just for the heck of it? Or? There will always be someone faster than you and, luckily, someone slower (though when new, it might be your turn to be the slow guy). Depending on what others are running, it may not take much engine work to be competitive. Blast tires arevery cheap compared to just about anything else. $120 a pair to maybe $300+ for anything else. Almost everything you need to know can be found on Badweb. If you cant find it there is always someone to ask. EZ has probably researched just about every Blast engine mod possible. "plus it is american iron, and I hate the jap bikes" Amen to that!
