Hello All,

With the Blast now fixed, I decided to ride it to work.
On my way home, while cruising at 70mph on the freeway, all of a sudden my bike get SUPER LOUD!

Fearing something went terribly wrong with the carb, I take the next exit off the freeway, park, and check the carb and the airbox. Looks OK.

Then I see this:

Busted Exhaust

Looking closer, I see this:

Busted Exhaust2

The Blast is out of commission again =(
I know this is a silly question, but... got any suggestions?

V&H if don't don't mind it loud. Jardine if you want it quieter (more money tha V&H) or find a stock one here or on eBay. I wouldn't have it welded back up(if even possible) unless they'd do it very cheap.
Sorry: (
Replacement is fairly easy if you are handy with tools and have a torque wrench.

Wow Eric, you are definitely learning how to wrench on your bike. Guys, how come his header pipe is so white?

My guess is from being too lean or just from age.

Friend of mine is picking up a 2012 Honda Shadow Phantom this week and already planning on swapping out the stock exhaust with aftermarket, at which point his exhaust will become mine.

I'm thinking to see if I can put one of the two exhausts on my bike.
Will there be any performance issues with this set up?

I've got a Jardine with the quiet core, and it's really not that bad, noise-wise.

... I did that because mine broke the header in the exact same spot.

The stock exhaust is soo heavy. If you replace it get a new exhaust port gasket and all new mounting hardware...

The shadow exhaust will take a lot of work to fit and probably won't be any more reliable than the exhaust you have now. Find a blast exhaust.

I shall look into blast exhaust or jardin or V&H.

My wife's '09 blasted a fist sized hole in the top rear of the stock pipe. The winter highway gunk is hard on a commuter bike. I have a Jardine on order.

Alas, I bit the bullet and ordered Jardine. Also #45 slow jet and exhaust port gasket. And while I'm spending money anyway, thought I'd order a superbike handlebar as well.
Hopefully I won't have to fix / change anything else for a while...

WooHoo! All the parts are here!
OK, so I'm going to install the new exhaust; swap out slow jet with #45; and turn the idle mixture screw 2-1/2 to 3 turns(?) out. Do I turn 360 degrees twice & 180 degrees once? Or 180 degrees twice & 90 degrees once.
And why do I need to mess with the idle mixture screw?

2/360. 1/180. The idle mixture screw is how it's adjusted. You could just find the perfect jet, but that's a little tedious. The screw just fine tunes it.

And I'm gone for a week so I can't offer up any help right now.

Thanks Gearhead.
I went ahead and installed the new exhaust, handlebar, and 45 jet. Before screwing out the idle mixture screw, since I don't know the history of the bike, I've decided to see if the screw will screw in. Turns out it was already about 2 turns out. I screwed it in, back out, and now the Blast is back on the road. WooHoo! And... I discovered that my engine leaks oil. Sigh~ But that's for another post.

{I went ahead and installed the new exhaust, handlebar, and 45 jet} Handlebars, what kind? I still haven't done this to mine and I've had mine 4 1/2 years now. You're one up on me on that area. I'm jealous, or lazy ,lol. I'm waitin on new tires for mine so won't be ridin it till next Sat. but we gotta hook up soon for a short ride.

Sycho,. I thought you had your handlebar changed like lot of people on the forum. I got Bikemaster SuperBike handlebars. Seems to be the most popular on the forum. I figured since I'm spending all that money on exhaust, $20 handlebar won't hurt too much =)

Yeah...I'm gonna have to change tires soon also. Especially the front one. And brake pads & fluid. And address leaking oil. And... And... The joy of buying a 10 year old bike, I guess

Blast runs greatly! I get all giddy whenever I push the starter switch (only once) and the bike starts right up =)
The bike does seem to backfire(I'm not quiet sure whether it's backfiring or just going putt, putt, putt?) when I close/let go the throttle. But that doesn't seem to affect the performance.
The aftermarket exhaust is definitely louder.

Many THANKS! to you all

Where is the idle mixture screw? I think I see it, but I won't drill until I'm reasonably certain.
