Ok guys, got a question for you. I had the money in my hand, ready to head down and buy a Blast (my first mc). A couple of post make reference to only getting 20,000 miles out of the engine. WTF? I'm looking for a commuter bike thats going to last a while. I drive about 40 miles round trip a day. At that rate, 20,000 miles is only a life of about 2 years. Tell me I'm misunderstanding something.

Most definitely - the bike will last as long as you take care of it. Regular services, check and top of oil regularly, etc. - I am pretty sure that the 20,000 mi reference only refers to heavily modified bikes with big cams, etc. - burning the candle at both ends type of thing - if they only lasted 20,000 miles this board would not exist - lol

Thanks EBlast.

I can’t believe that these little honeys are this cheap. I commute about 35 to 40 miles a day. About half of that is city 35 mph traffic and the other half is highway speeds on the causeway across Tampa Bay. I figure I can make my payment back in gasoline I don’t burn in my 17 mpg pick up. I can’t think of a better excuse to buy a m/c. It’s so practical. Beside, it’s going to piss off my soon-to-be-ex wife to no end.

Here’s my plan. Buy a new Blast, drive it for a year or two and then trade up to a touring type bike. I’ll keep the Blast to hand down to my kids learn on and to ride. Sound like a plan or am I just another middle aged guy looking for an excuse to finally get his motorcycle.

It's a good plan, up to the part of getting a touring bike. : )

Zane that was my plan. I have held onto my 01 blast purchased in 04 for 1700 w/ less than 500 miles on it for my son. I now ride an 03 xb purchased for 5k w/ less than 2k on it. Now if my son would stop stepping on his own wang long enough to give me some confidence that he won't immediately run into a tree we can get the blast back on the road. My commute was 40 miles a day when I used the blast and it was perfect. Just keep on top of the oil and think twice before you go for a loud exhaust.

I made the plunge and bought a 04 Blast. It was a consignment bike at Fletcher's in Clearwater. 1700 miles and it already has the Vance & Hines exhaust on it. The lady started out asking $2895 and came after some haggling came down to $2400. That's just about where NADA says it should be with the exhaust.

Scott Z. at Fletchers took really good care of me. Got me jobber price on some parts I wanted too. Public thanks to Scott for all his extra efforts.

Only issue I have now is still deciding if I want to keep her in the garage or bring her into the bedroom everynight...

If it hasn't already been re-jetted, I'd do that ASAP.
