I would say jetting at 45/170 stock and 45/175 for mods. Only 2000 and 2001 had 165 jetting.

well I have 45/175 jetting with some mods and my Blast will start at 14degrees but until it warms up it hesitates/stutters at 3K. Along those same lines it was stubborn to start. It just wouldn't fire for about 3-5 seconds but the battery was fine (I use a tender) my thoughts are to up the pilot jetting to a 48. and maybe the main to 180 for the cold. Not sure on the main yet though.

For cold weather starting the larger primary is going to be the key.

With a 185 main it must smell to ride behind your Blast Buellistic! LOL!

Do you have stock ignition module on yours?

If the battery is old its going to be hard to start (It will still turn over though, but the battery is sucking up most of the electrical power not leaving much for the ignition). If its got mods there can be other issues at work.

Thanks for all your help gang, It turned out that the vent tube was kinked and bent, causing a vacuum and killing the bike. Had nothing to do with temp, everything to do with suction :P

I often ride mine in the 10's and 20's. With stock air filter and exhaust, jetted 145/170 at 2 1/2 turns out makes it run great. It doesn't do that crazy fast idle when it starts any more, or stall out for the first couple miles, or backfire much.

Broke again : ( After 15 months of solid service, last November, my Blast started failing. Over the last few months it has now broken 5 times, all a little different, but all related to the exhaust. The only real change to the bike over the time would be the Pro-Series intake I installed last fall.

Here is what has happened:

1) Stud holding the exhaust to the head broken off. Repaired/Replaced.
2) On the way home from the dealer, the other stud broke off. The dealer claimed they did it wrong and Replaced the head and complete exhaust system, motor and exhaust mounts.
3) After a month, the exhaust pipe cracked completely off about 1 inch from the head. Complete exhaust replaced again and all mounting hardware.
4) After 6 weeks, 2000 miles both nuts on the header studs fail off, replaced nuts, no other damage found.
5) 1 week later, noticed exhaust getting loud but couldn't find anything wrong with the front half of the exhaust. Finally found a 2x4 inch hole in the rear/top of the exhaust. Waiting for the part to come in.

Any ideas?

I have had the stock exhaust head pipe crack off a couple of times on the Little Kids Blast but I had a friend weld it up both itmes. I would be real careful about how it gets mounted up, like make sure a new gasket goes in place, make sure everything gets put in place, then tighten everything gradually. Good Luck.

You keep mentioning 'dealer' so I'll assume he's doing the work and that would lead me to believe thats most of your problem. If the bike is running lean or has an exhaust leak at the head, both can cause premature pipe cracking.
There is a specific procedure for tightening up the exhaust and that also leads me to think that not following it can cause problems.
Maybe you can talk the dealer into a V & H or Jardine exhaust instead. At this point its sounds like either will give you less problems than your having now.

As for the curse... Its not stated in the manual, but in Buell special Bulletin # A-07734 it recommends dancing naked 4 times round the oak tree, 1 hour before sunrise, will dispel most warranty period curses!

What all was involved in the 2000 recall? I've heard about the rear sprocket and belt but was the swing arm ever recalled?

There are early and late swingarms, but what the difference is I dont know, obviously not part of the recall. Its even possible its just bad part numbers. Possibly bearings???
The sprocket/pulley cover is also changed with the recall (though both are identical except for the outer edge).

Tubers had a recall involving the swingarm.. The orginal didn't have continuous welds on the gussets... Later ones are U shaped at the swingarm area around the rear wheel

The reason the TUBE FRAMES had a RECALL
PROBLEM was "QUALITY CONTROL" with different supplyers ...

BMC did not know which BUELLs should be recalled so they did the "SHOT GUN RECALL"
and did them all ...

BIG EXPENCE !!!

Broken exhaust studs, Any cure for this? We
have 2 03 blasts,1 both studs broke the other just one. the one we drilled out &retapped&seems to be ok now, but before I do the other one I would like the most info I can get on this.

If the exhaust has ever been taken off, I'd follow the manual on torque sequence, use anti seize and nylock lock nuts. (I actually use anti seize and loctite in the appropriate places).Dont use the out of round style locknuts.
If the exhaust is loose, that will contribute to broken studs along with improper torquing and rust.
I've never had a problem, but to be fair none of my exhausts have ever stayed on very long (always changing things).

WARNING! WARNING! anyone heard of this one? I was riding my girls '04 Blast! and the oil filter fell off on the highway and the motor grenaded! The dealer is covering it on warranty but will not tell me why it happened, back pressure, bad casting ..... anyway, gonna safety wire it when it comes home. Any thoughts????

That could happen on anything with a screw on oil filter. Somebody installed the filter incorrectly or the filter mount (factory). If the filter mount came off with the filter, then the filter mount was the fault. If just the filter came off it was (in all probability) the filter install.

Not a normal thing for a Blast to have happen.
