Guess what I brought home yesterday. Yes, I bought the Blast. It took me 53 years to own my first motorcycle but I finally own one.

I won't have a m/c endorsement on my license yet so I can't really play with her much but did run her up and down the street a few times. Between her sitting so long at the last owners and being started at the dealership, I think I ran the battery down. Call she'll do now is make a rapid clicking sound when I try to start it. Headlight comes on but dims out completely when it tries to turn over.

One more thing to buy....sigh

I did get a helmet yesterday to at Cycle Gear. Decided on a Shoei RF-1000. At $349 it was more than I wanted to spend but it was lighter and more comfortable that the others I looked at.

I'll try and get a photo of it posted in profile today or tomorrow.

Congratulations!

Getting a new to you bike is always fun.

A $30 battery tender will take care of that little drained problem pretty quick.

Don't feel bad about spending on the helmet, if it fits and feels good it is worth it. My gear adds up to about half the price of the Blast I ride, but it has proven to slide down from 70 mph without any injuries so it is still way cheaper than an ambulance ride.

I figure a helmet isn’t the place to cut corners so I went ahead and got the Shoei. Cheapest I saw in on the 'net was $331. So for having it in my hands right now, I figured I got about the best brick and mortar price I could expect. I have to say that when I pull the visor down over my face, it improves my looks.

This morning I pulled the battery out and put it on the charger. Give it a couple of hours and then I’ll give it another try.

Other thing I was thinking is that I should probably give it an oil change and change the fuel filter. There’s no telling how long it’s been since it’s been ridden so new oil and filters seem like a good idea. I’m a fanatic about maintenance. Maintenance pays for itself several times over by avoided repairs.

It barely done anything but sit in the garage and I'm already in love with it.

Congrats on the bike Zane...Yes the Shoei is a very good helmet...quality in a helmet goes far beyond good looks and eye popping graphics...back when I worked for Honda, customers would buy a bike and buy the cheapest lid we had...we were a Bell dealer (one of the very best at that time) and I asked the question "how much is your head worth?" A good helmet is like life insurance...we all hope we never need it...pay close attention to how you maintain it, especially in the area of cleaners and such...the foam can be adversely affected by the wrong chemicals...and the end all is the helmet is a sacrificial device...a good one absorbs the impact by failure and deformation so your skull doesn't have to....one hard whack and you really need a new one...

I will hang on to your "new" seat as promised.. best wishes...Harry

Fast,

Not sure that you'll want this seat. When I took the seat off to charge the battery, I noticed that the front tab has been broken off. It's still ridable but it wouldn't be an even trade.

A hat thats DOT and SNELL rated should be good no matter what the price. Its the finish, and features that cost money. I like my HJC, but it gets hot..... and it tends to get foggy.... lol

I was amazed. There were some helmets at Cycle Gear that were in the $700 range. I about chocked! Sill I'm happy with what I got. It fits me and is comfortable. That's what really matters. I new enough at this that brands don't impress me. I just saw the ratings and it was the most comfortable fit.

That's true and I do have a rivet gun.

Fast, I'd love to trade you, I just didn't want to take advantage of you. I'll takea couple of photos and send them to you. If you're still want to trade that would be great.

I went to the msf class room session tonight. They did a pretty good job of going over the material and not being boring. Told some great stories and kept it interesting. Really looking forward to this week for the road course work.
