I am curious what kind of mpg people are getting on their blasts. I just bought a 2008 2 weeks ago and already have 500 miles on it. I only see about 60 mpg so far but the bike is rated at 73 mpg.

I have a 50 mile commute to work, 100 miles a day round trip, and I get 58 MPG with my modifications and at about 75 MPH.

My commute right now is about 15 miles one way. About 5 of it in medium to heavy traffic at 35/40 mph and the other 10 on the Causeway. That's 55/60 mph with maybe 1 traffic light stop in the middle.

I also use her to run errands when I can and put maybe 25 or 30 miles of 2 up riding a week on her. I do think it helps that I'm never more that 75 feet above sea level and the roads here are pancake flat. There are NO hills here. My house is on one of the highest points in the county at 68 feet above sea level.

The only mods are a Vance and Hines exhaust can and it's been jetted up one notch. I drive pretty mildly and I've been getting upper 60's to low 70's.

No matter what I ask of her, she just churns out the torque and never complains.

Have I said lately that I love my Blast!

with a 2003 blast, with 4,500 miles on it, I have been getting just over 65 mpg - pretty much just going around "suburbia" - lots of starts and stops, trips generally 10-15 miles long, with speeds that are below 45-50 mph max.

I have a 2005 Blast - depending on how i ride i get anywhere from 70-87 MPGs

Erik and mine is similar, however, my hotrod gets closer to 50mpg, my daily driver gets a little over 40 - lol

Fill up the tank this afternoon on the way back from running an errand at lunch. 146.4 miles and 2.086 gallons makes my mileage 70.12 mpg.

The raceBlast was getting better than 60mpg when it was last on the street. 50+mpg to and from work.

Its amazing how much more efficient the bike is with a piston designed for the head and a bump of higher comp - lol

you guys counting the reserve too? because i cant ever seam to get more then 120 miles out of my tank with out the reserve.... but then again i can figure how any one can fit 2 gallons or more in there tank because wth the bike on it kick stand i cant fill it up all the way. sry i just must be stupid lol or going WOT too much ahh-haha

The last fill up I put just a hair over 2 gallons in her. Yes that did include some of the reserve. The tank and reserve was bone dry by the time I could stop for gas.

I generally fill up between 100 and 110 miles on the trip Odometer but because of time constraints, I had to push it a little. Not how I normally like to do things but sometimes your hand is forced. Bottom line is that my Blast came through for me and I wasn't stuck on the side of the road.

This leads me to another silly question. If you always gas up at say 100 miles and never use the gas in your reserve, does it go bad? Gas can get stale but is there enough splashing around inside the tank that the main supply and the reserve mix and keep the reserve fresh?

Ya only gots one tank! The petcock has two openings inside the tank. Reserve is just a little lower than Normal.

I used to get about 50mpg with intake, exhaust, 170/45 jets, advanced timing, and riding like the Langoliers were after me. With the addition of XB cams and 180/48 jets it's dropped to about 40, but i'm pretty sure it's way too rich.

To get the tank FULL you have to fill it while ON the bike holding it up straight, not on the kickstand. It's quicker & easier that way anyway - don't have to get off or remove helmet & gloves - just ride up to the pump, stick your card in the reader, fill up, and GO! If you do it that way and fill it a little past the rubber skirt thing, then you can squeeze 2.25 gallons in it if you've just switched to reserve, or almost 2.75 if you've almost used all the reserve.

BUT - only fill it that way if you're not going to stop until you've ridden it a ways further - otherwise, gas will come out the vent if you put it on the stand... I don't know WHY they didn't put the vent on the opposite side from the kickstand!

The half gallon reserve works well - if you get 60mpg, then you know you've got another 30 miles after you hit reserve.

To figure mpg while riding, divide by 9 when you hit reserve, then multiply by four: hit reserve at 117 miles, 117/9=13, 13*4=52, so you got 52mpg, and 26 more miles until reserve is burned up.

Easy way to divide by 9: eleven 9's is 99, so subtract 99 then divide what's left, then add 11: 117-99=18, 18/9=2, 2+11=13

Also, it looks like the very last bit of gas in the tank may get stranded on the right side, so if you ever run out completely, try stopping (well, I guess you'd already be stopped!) and laying the bike over on its left side to shift the last few ounces of gas over to the petcock side - might get you another mile or two.

I have '07 Blast that I purchased new 2 months ago. I have just over 3000 miles on it and return a pretty consistent 64mpg average. My best tank was 72mpg and got 70mpg out of another tank a week ago. I never understood the tank measurements because if I stop for gas right after it hits reserve it takes only 1.89 gallons to fill it a little past the neck opening. I always fill it sitting on the bike and the bike upright. So I either have a reserve that's .9 gallons in size or the tanks don't really hold 2.8 gallons. I couldn't really put more gas in the tank if I tried (and I have...lol).

I generally just keep an eye on the odometer. When it gets up over 100 miles I start looking for a fillup. Try to fill up before it reaches 120 miles. That way I don't have to sweat running out of gas. That last tank ran for 146 miles but that's farther than I like to push it.

When I do fill up I get off and put her on the side stand. I try to just barely cover the rubber skirt inside the tank. This is what has been working for me.

I have a v&H exhaust I shortened the can 2 1/2 inches an welded a 4 inch supertrapp tip on it. 170/45 jets with EZ airbox mod with a K&N @ WOT to often LOL!! I get to around 100 miles and I have to turn the reserve on alway around 50 mpg!!
