Too subtle, I guess. I'll try again with slightly less subtlety.

How far can someone ride a 2003 XB12R when the first ones to hit the dealerships were 2004's?

Sometimes you have to be (for me any way) as subtle as a sledge hammer.
When you first posted I looked at his profile, and looked again at your post, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out "why the bold print?"

I'd happily go ride my bikes instead of talking about them...care to foot the bill for airfare from Osaka to Detroit for me, there, Splinter?

Looks like an office-type and a wrench-type on the same computer. Unless he's got one of those split-personalities.
'course the IP appears to be a cable modem near CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA

This really is a Supply / Demand world and if your local HD dealer has customers lined up outside of the front door waiting patiently to get in so they can throw big bills at the cutie watching the cash register then they aren't going to change your damn tires because they just don't have to.

But I can't believe that's really the case. The stock market is in the toilet, unemployment is high, dealers still have bikes on the floor, and the sidewalk in front of the door looks clear to me. On the other hand, HDI is over $60.00 per share so what do I know. Customer service has been a foreign concept to these arrogant dick heads for as long as I've been hanging around bike shops and it looks like old habits die hard.

I hope to live long enough to see a genuinely humble HD dealer. One of my all time favorite old blues songs is Nobody Knows You When Your Down And Out (Ruth Brown does the VERY best version) and that's what a lot of HD dealers will be singing one of these days. Right now we seem to love the product more than we hate the dealer but times and demographics change. I'm telling you, friends and neighbors, their time is coming, and I'm looking forward to the change.

Hear, hear!

Let those that love us, love us. Those that do not love us, may God turn their hearts...and if He cannot turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles, so that we may know them by their limping.

Thank you Blake.
Blake made a point I was just assuming. The Va. location is meaningless. The fact that both IPs are the same is not. I am sure Blake could ping-trace back to the origin, but why go to that effort, however small, to ascertain the obvious.

I am POed about the inconsistencies and resulting loss of time. That was my major thrust. American HD has other problems as well. The attitude and service exhibited there were accurately reflected in this thread.

Don't forget Stan's HD BAILED ME OUT!!! Stan's has long had a reputation in the area for going above and beyond - opening after hours, staying late to finish. Anything that can reasonably be done to keep a customer rolling. I have personally experienced only a little of this. The customer service attitude is surely much better at Stan's, though.

(ping trace leads you to VA, probably just a generic server associated with Adelphia (sp?) the IP is now meaningless due to the magic of DHCP)

Josh,
I apologize, I don't remember what you ordered and I'm at home in Iowa and leaving on vacation tomorrow.
I can call and find out for you but I don't know if I'll have internet or not for the next couple days.
I hate to put you off but in this case it might be best to call the toll free number 1-866-757-1651 and ask for Ray or Z in the parts dept. They can look up what the status is.
Send me an email and let me know what you want me to do.

Thanks!

Hey Splinter,

Before making comments on riding why don't you mount Ozz's tire, jump on a S1 (if its the retailer I was in while in Buffalo last summer) you have one in your showroom/museum identical to mine and ride your arse to Newfoundland. Don't comment on how much we do or do not ride our bikes.

Well maybe you don't have the balls to, I'd bet you ride a Harleybago thingy, I'd invite you up here on that too.

In my opinion an hours labor charge is an hours labor charge, no shop should turn down work. A tire mounted today could be a bike sale tomorrow.

Since they are S2 parts and were not in stock, I'd say probably looking at next week.
You should have them by then.

>>>>Sometimes I just don't understand.

Me neither.

I suspect the Dealer Relations folks who monitor this board and the activities of nearly 5,000 interested and enthusiastic Buell owners, will have some questions for the dealer principal at American HD/Buell.

It's one thing to hire people who are not very bright. But they should be kept in the back (possibly changing tires) and not on the internet digging the dealer a marketing hole to climb out of.

These guys should be ashamed.

The "customer" never told ANYBODY at my dealership that he was supplying AN AFTERMARKET tire. The tires we receive from Harley-Davidson seem to us, to be a far better quality than those we have mounted in the past from other suppliers. The balance factor IS an important part of the handling.
It is not so much about the money as it is about the safety of our customers, whom we DO care about. If everything were about the money, I wouldn't be picking up broken down motorcycles at 11 PM, which I have personally done on many occasions. It was also brought to my attention that the conversation that "Oz666" supposedly had with my technician was not repeated correctly on this board. One of my parts personnel witnessed the entire conversation and heard it completely different than stated here previously. As far as your gift card goes, maybe you should have used it to purchase a tire that we would have been able to mount for you.
We could go back and forth all day on the "He said, He said" issue, but just know this.....
I must always be concerned for the safety of my customers and other people who enjoy the sport of motorcycling. Harley-Davidson and Buell spend a tremendous amount of time to manufacture motorcycles that meet stringent safety and durability standards, as well as comply with federal and state laws. I am just curious as to how experienced and educated you are with New York State laws, NYS insurance regulations and NYS safety regulations??? There are a number of federal and state laws that govern motorcycle and safety standards and requirements. It is my duty and my responsibility as the business owner to comply with these regulations. Just one catastrophic lawsuit could seriously impact and compromise my entire business, and that is just NOT a risk I am willing to take. Maybe, if you were in my shoes- you would be understanding of where I am coming from.
Furthermore, if you were that unhappy with the way that my staff handled the situation or the policies that they enforce for me- you had and STILL have every opportunity to speak with me, the owner, personally and face-to-face rather than post negative attitude on a website. And yes- I do care when my business and name are trashed ANYWHERE. I have worked very hard at building a positive reputation for my business and will do everything possible to keep it that way. I know that I can't please everyone, but I and my entire staff at American Harley-Davidson/ American Thunder Buell, will TRY LIKE HELL!!!!!!!

Signed,
Jeff

OZ:Hi, I really need a favor, can you mount and balance a tire if I bring it in tomorrow?
OZ:I asked the day before if a tire mount and balance could be done (at the service desk).
OZ: If positions were reversed, I would assume the customer was bringing in the tire.

I'd have to say I agree with the dealer. Why the hell would they assume you were bringing in a tire? 99% of their customers don't (and they have a policy against it in place).

If you call and ask if they can do an oil change, do you show up with the oil and filter for them to use?

OZ, if your original statements are exact and I was the other person I would assume you were bringing "it" - the motorcycle - in for me to install one my of my off-the-shelf tires on since 99% of my customers do just that.

Oh really?? Then how do you explain this which was sent from your shop???

THEY DIDNT PUT YOUR TIRE ON... CRY ABOUT IT. WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE EVERY ONE IS SUE HAPPY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TRY TO MAKE A COMPANY LOOK BAD FOR PROTECTING THIER DEALERSHIP AND THE JOBS OF THE EMPLOYEES. IF THE WHOLE THING WAS NOT HANDLED RIGHT, DISCUSS IT WITH THE OWNER INSTEAD OF HIDING BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN. IM SURE SOMEONE AS "INTELLIGENT" AS YOURSELF HAS BETTER THINGS TO DO... BECAUSE AFTER ALL, THE ONLY REASON YOUR STILL COMPLAINING IS FOR THE SELF GRATIFICATION FROM THE OTHER MORONS THAT AGREE WITH YOU....HAVE A NICE DAY!

Still smells like BS to me.
Tell you what, Im going to write Dunlop & see just what they have to say about your accusations.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate".

The only win I can see would have been for the dealership to check out the tire he wanted installed, and if it seemed of good brand and quality then install it "just this one time". If he brings in a new Dunlop tire that your shop doesn't happen to carry then that would make my scenario even more presentable.

Customer Service includes dealing with an irate or misinformed or misunderstood customer and trying to make things as right as possible as fairly as possible for all parties involved.

I wasn't there, so I"ll end this here.

Thanks for stopping in Jeff.
