Wouldn't it be grand if it was 2035 and all people had to rely on were "clean" electric vehicles with no way to charge them?
No power, no heat, no where to go, at least that steak in the freezer won't spoil if only you had a way to cook it without burning the furniture.
Oh wait! Didn't cow farts make beef illegal back in 2030!

I'm seeing websites in Texas complaining that they got 8 inches of snow and it stuck!

Also complaining that the Texas Power Grid guys have known for over a decade that they need to winterize the system.

I guess they didn't believe they needed to with all the Global Warming ending winter as we knew it.

Or paid attention when Global Warming became the Cause for severe Cold! And Racism. And Economic Unfairness. And autistic children getting free yacht rides. And private jets to where the yacht goes. And chartered jets to deliver the lobster, wagyu beef, and caviar to the Climate Conferences.

...I miss the days when it was just "weather". Does anyone else remember those days? Now, according to all the weather channels and news media, this is a "WINTER INVASION".

Sheesh.

EVERYTHING is evil now.

We're supposed to get 6-10" of snow here in MD. We get snow every winter, it's nothing new. But, the winter weather advisory says "keep extra food and water and a flashlight in the car in case of emergencies". SERIOUSLY?? It's a freakin' SNOWSTORM, not "The Day After Tomorrow"....jeez.

Since journalism perished all they've got is fear scripts. Sunny? Skin Cancer! Rain? Build an Ark!

I have no idea what they'll do when Cthulu rises in Sept. "Understandable reaction to Trump hat" probably.

Of course the sage advice requires throwing away every wind turbine and building new ones. You can probably re-use the towers and bases.

Ice storms in south Texas are once or twice a lifetime event. Half the nukes and a lot of the gas fired plants with issues were there.

West Texas, where the windmills live, gets worse weather, more often, but they are a small part of the grid.
Nothing like New York but 2-3 dozen freezing to death is noteworthy these days.

It’ll be 60 tomorrow there, soon here too.
I was at my parent’s the last time Texas was this cold. 1989

I thought the snow covered solar panels and ice covered wind generators were 23% of the Texas Green Nude Eel?

https://comptroller.texas.gov/economy/fiscal-notes /2020/august/ercot.php#:~:text=Today%2C%20Texas%20 still%20generates%20electricity%20from%20some%20of ,generated%20by%20natural%20gas-fired%20power%20pl ants%20in%202019.

So nearly A Quarter of all power in Texas, stopped in the cold. Then the "oh, it only freezes here once in a lifetime, so why insulate?" Chickens came home, to roost! And More went off line.

Record needs and massive failure = deserved mockery.

Of course, I mock the Greenies. They mock Texans.

And Ice storms HERE are seasonal. The Big One in '91! Still sell t shirts.

https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/20 19/03/03/ice-storm-1991-rochester/3048857002/

I was on a mountain bike ride, 30 miles out & back with 2 buds. The ice streamlined our frames with solid ice teardrop shapes. Ice coated us, except where We moved, like knees. We finally got off the trails and ran the last 5 miles to my friend's house on highways where we passed all the cars.

I tossed my very heavy bike in my minivan, then headed home. Studded snow tires and utterly ignoring the invisible lane markings for another 40 miles, as I got to the high ground on the Express way, a massive purple flare lit up the sky at the power grid distribution center to my right, and about a quarter of the lights went out. I stopped, no traffic near me, and watched as the purple flare repeated 3 more times in 3 slightly different spots ( it's the complex of transformers right off the Thruway where Niagara, The Nuclear Plant, and the lines to Syracuse/Buffalo/Rochester come together. ) with darkness replacing civilization each time. Quite impressive lighting up the snow, icy rain, and clouds in brilliant light rich in UV. Think a welding torch setting off a can of brake cleaner in the handy 50 ton size.

No power at my house for 3 weeks. Kept from freezing by filling gallon jugs with hot water from the old natural gas heater and putting them around the living room and parent's bed. Sweaters, reading by camp lights, listening to the radio, & idiots screaming at closed stores because they wanted toilet....

when nearly a quarter of your power just isn't working and demand is at record highs... You need more Nuclear.

I've spent decades doing sports that depended on wind. Sailing, kiting, gliding, even sails on bicycles. It's a wonderful source of moderately expensive energy. When it works.

I've also spent hundreds, probably thousands, of hours driving around from hill to hill, lake to lake, and waiting for the wind to be appropriate for the sport I was doing. One of my flying buddies spent his summers with a wind surfing rig, and a hang glider, on the roof of his mini-wagon, And a paraglider, in the trunk, on the principle that if it's too much for one, it's good for another. And we spent many hours parked. Waiting. Many.

You might want to wait for the next shipment of home generators, but not too long, since I'll bet you they become illegal in CA and NY soon.

A crude form of thermal depolymerization.

This is being done at commercial scale in the US and my company buys the fuel as a feedstock. The entire process allows dirty mixed plastics to be recycled into food grade materials.

Today's garbage dumps are tomorrow's mines.

Intelligent recycling is not a dumb idea.
Too bad it's rare.

OK, let's assume the video isn't faked *. How soon will he denude the island of firewood? Where did he get the first vessel and the "condensers" that were the right capacity? Does diesel really light that easily?

* He mentions Managua, can I be suspicious of a Sandinista wannabe?

If you increase its surface area, yeah. That’s what the twigs are for. Besides, I’m sure that’s not astm “diesel”. I posted it so show how simple TPD is, and to share some good news about recycling previously non recyclable plastic waste.

No, no, Weather Isn't Climate if it's different than the Fear Mantra. If they say it's Warming, a sunny day is PROOF! Since they changed the Mantra to Change, the Sun rising and setting and the possible temperature differences are ABSOLUTE PROOF!

But if they tell you your lawn mower causes Flooding, and there's a drought for 8 years? That's Just Weather. Or if, as they did for many years, claim the Seas Will Boil, and there's record cold at the Cabo Climate Fly-in for 747's and Gulfstreams only. No Posers in Lears allowed, and the margaritas freeze as the snow covers the beach? That's Just Weather.

You have to understand. Everything is Relative.

Like that payoff to Joe's son.

The white supremacists at NASA have hidden a message that cannot be misinterpreted in a parachute, and admonished people to show their work when decoding it. Unbelievably unwoke. Their whiteness is disgusting.
