Anybody use a light smoke tinted faceshield? Was wondering if the light smoke tint would be too dark for night riding. Would the police give you a hard time? http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/Icon_Proshield _Faceshield--622766.html

I use one. It is darker but I can still get around well. I find it the good choice if you don't like changing your shield. Like me.

I ride with an Arai so YMMV but even the dark smoke is rideable at night on a lighted highway -- and just flip the visor up in town (no prob for me, I wear glasses). In my experience light smokes are clear visors with a wee bit of color.

My upcoming fix is getting the new Scorpion EXO-1000 with the interior flip-down smoke visor. With that helmet I will be able to wear a clear external visor and just flip up/down the smoked interior. As a bonus I can get mirrored/smoked replacements for both. Very nice!

I've used mine at night before, and didn't really have a problem, though the total distance I could see ahead was diminished.

Although the smoke is fine at night...I would where a pair of clears as well so I can flip the visor up. Just in case you hit a side street that is not well lit, which I have plenty of those around me.

Just slow down at night, I used to ride a Firebolt with crap headlamps and dark smoke visor at night without issue, but you can only see a few feet in front of you.

I have a dark smoke one on my Shoei. I just flip the visor up and use clear Oakley's at night.

I just got a light smoke visor a couple of weeks ago, because I kept getting sunburn with the clear. It's light enough that I can see absolutely fine with it at night, and it's dark enough that the sun won't burn me to a crisp. Going with a darker visor at night, I do not recommend.

I've tried a variety of different tints on my face shields, from completely mirrored/black to light smokes...I always come back to a clear shield. I simply don't like the reduced visibility at night.

Point of note, however - at anything less than 55MPH I ride with my visor up and my pale yellow shatter-resistant wraparounds on. Yellow's the only tint I can stand to have on regardless of ambient lighting conditions (tried blues, dark, smokes, and yellows).

RE: Jeff - I don't burn easily, thank goodness, but when the weather's nice I do develop some interesting tan patterns due to motorcycle gear. ; )

I use the dark smoke on my Arai....

I went on a 2 hour ride Monday night, any tinted shield IMO wouldn't cut it..

My dark smoke is Ok for night riding in a pinch short distances.. you definitely don't want to get caught in the rain, day or night...

If you don't want to carry an extra shield some cheap clear glasses in the pocket might do the trick..

Before I upgraded my Scopion's shield to the Shade Shifter (lightens & darkens depending on sunlight) I used a light smoke shield for a good year or so. I had no problems with it on the backroads at night and actually preferred it in traffic at night as it cut down some of the oncoming headlight glare.

Thanks for all of the thoughts fellas. I went with the dark smoke from kneedraggers.com. And of course it is back ordered until June 1st, my Fqn luck!! They make you agree (check box) to this "agreement" regarding back orders, refunds ect... Of course they won't let you cancel the order if it's back ordered. It's their little trap, they know when items are out of stock. BS!!
