Thanks Blake. I will be there.. if I can get away from work. It's nice that S&S is sending me down there. Stop by and drag me away from the truck. We will be set up at the speedway.

Ok, 95 horse is not any stock XB. Most XB12's put out high 80's or low 90's at best on a Dynojet. Frankly, a stock stroke XB9 built to that level will spank a 12.

A bike like that is capable of winning a lot of races...not everyone is out to capture Formula Extreme titles.

Someone needs to record and transcribe Court and Davegess' "remind me to tell you" session to share here on the board for those that can't be there.

Nothing can be put in writing. Nothing that is said will be the truth and no one mentioned will bear any resemblance to an actual person.

Always remember that every word posted on the internet is archived forever and can and will be used against you. Words at a bar do not have the same effect.

Josh,

I gotta say, the Paul Smart replica is really, really ugly, and sure doesn't do justice to the original Ducatis. It is swollen, rounded and fat with all kinds of bulbous parts like the mufflers. The original 750SS and 900SS Ducatis were lean and sleek. The only similarity is the paint. At least when Willie G does a retro bike, it actually looks retro. In my opinion, this Ducati styling guy has no taste at all.

I predict (quote me if you'd like) the LARGEST BUELL CROWD IN HISTORY at Daytona 2006.

I am hoping to get there for this. My wife said lets go. Yea!!! Trying to get plane tickets and a place to stay worked out.

I think the retro Ducatis look pretty cool.

My neighbor got this one yesterday, with the same retro color as the new Ulysses.

Woz got this Paul Smart 1000 a little while back, and it looks really good to me too. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Of course, I like the look of his red Mike Hailwood too. Red is just so Ducati.

Jim,

I agree that looks are up to the beholder, and since someone had posted the Ducati replica here for some odd reason (guess he likes it), I thought I'd express my opinion. As a guy who owned an original 900SS, I think the replicas are really ugly. Just a difference in taste, I guess. I also think the 999 and Multistrada look like they were beaten with ugly sticks. It's pretty sad when the top of the line Ducatis are out-styled by the Japanese. Personally I think an R1 for example is MUCH better looking than a 999. Yet the 998 was absolutely gorgeous to me.

The post before mine referenced Paul Smart winning the Imola 200 as being a turning point for Ducati....

I saw the Duc replicas at the IMS show and they were very nice in person.I could own one easily--if I did not spend all my allowance on Buell stuff.Oh well.
In a former life I was a Ducati owner--one of my first bikes was a 1968 250 Scrambler, loved the sound of that bike.

Coming from you dude, I'm absolutely shocked you'd say such a thing. Never mind mean it?

I don't think I could ever part with my 916. Same deal as my S1W. Looks alone would see me keep it.

As for the 999. First off, Treblanche had a hard task on his hands following in Tamborini's footsteps. So it's easy as a 916 fan and owner to sit here typing all the things I don't like about the 999, but what I find most surprising of all is how much it's grown on me over the years. I no longer see it as the 916's not so nicely styled replacement, but more I see it as a much more modern styled bike in its own right. Put it another way. If the 916 genre had never existed, the 999 would be the bike the 916 was in terms of looks alone. Love the 999's controversial looks, or hate them, there's no denying, as a motorcycle it's a vision of deep beauty.

As for R1's, the 1997 model in red and white looked the best. The futuristic looking 2002 model with the funky led rear light was cool looking, but the 04 model like Dyna has, what an ugly pig of a bike. Now Kawasaki have done the same to this years ZX10 too, and likewise, spoilt it. But how anyone could say an R1 is better looking than a 999, frankly I'm still in shock!

As for thr Paul Smart and other replica Ducati's, they were brought to production via public demand on Ducati's website. As I understand from what I've read, they've turned a profit for Ducati too. Sometimes I think us Buellers suffer from blinkered vision. I'm glad I don't anymore. Incidentally, I'm going to look at the new Brutale Starfighter Titanium R 910 on Friday. I might post a pic if you're interested.

Interesting comment, my brother in law and I were looking at a new R1 a few months ago when he expressed that he almost considers it to be better looking than his yellow '03 999. He didn't like the 999 initially after seeing it in magazines. He was actually shopping for a 998 when he first saw the 999 in person and changed his mind. I still wasn't really sold on the 999 after seeing it in person the first few times, it wasn't until I saw it in action at the track that I finally "got" the bike visually.

About the R1s, Rocket and I are on different pages with those. I thought the early models looked bloated and confused just like every other '90s Japanese sportbike, but I think the '04+ models have a very sleek look that's near Italian in appearance.

She's pissed off with Woz, as you'd be if you were married to him whilst he flaunts his MH900 off with some young filly. Notice the 'his and hers caps'?

Woz is married to the MH900e, but now he has the Paul Smart on the side, along with a dozen other "bikefriends", including a "mature" S1, and a petulant Sportster.

I found this on another site. Is it accurate? Is the XBRR the underlying catalyst? Please note the reference to Formula Xtreme in the last paragraph:

Honda Pulls out of AMA Board
Written by: Honda Racing
Torrance, CA – 2/18/2006 For more than 30 years, American Honda has maintained a seat on the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Board of Trustees.
. . edited out ..

Thanks. Got it.

Harley Drags get the crowds. Flat track gets the crowds. Nascar fills the stands. If the XBRR works out in Formula Xtreme for bigger gate receipts, maybe they will build lots of them.

Maybe it's time for some new blood on the AMA Board of Trustees - especially if attendance is down compared to other motor sports. I think I heard that 168k spectators witnessed #48 win the 500 last week. I wonder how many will show up for the 200.
