I'm thinking the fact that all 50 bikes were sold the first day to people that know how much money is involved in building a bike like this speaks volumes as to whether or not the $31K is a bargain. I'm not sure where some people are pulling their numbers from as to how much a bike like this / components like these should cost, but somethings tells me that if these teams could do it for less, they would have. |

I can't get over how ugly the head light arrangement is on the 999s, but:
RACE KIT
The Testastretta in the 999R can be made even more powerful using the race kit (for track use only) that comes with every bike. It includes a 102 dB Termignoni exhaust, with a horizontal exhaust rear section without a catalytic converter, and a special electronic control unit. All this results in improved performance and a weight loss of 3 kg.
The jaw-dropping engine performance is supported by a first-class chassis set up, specifically developed to deliver top results on the track: adjustable headstock rake, box-sectioned aluminium alloy rear swingarm (a perfect copy of the 999R Factory race bike), radial-mounted front brake calipers, forged and machined wheel rims and fully adjustable Öhlins suspension.
The 999R is the jewel in the Ducati Superbike family crown and forms the natural evolution of the formula that has dominated the Superbike Championships for more than a decade. |

Out of the first 50 "sold", it will be interesting to know how many are actually run on the track and raced for a season. |

M1, you do realize that it weighs in LESS than your bike does?
XB12R wet weight is 461LBS. I certainly wouldn't call a 450LB/140HP Bike a pig

I do realize that... but it makes roughly the same power as the RR and weighs more. The original comment was comparing the RR and the 999R. It's my personal opinion that the RR has a better bang/buck ratio and the 999R is a pig compared to the RR. I believe the comparison to the 999R is justified based on price.

The RR will weight no more than 385 lbs wet. The ones that show up at Daytona will be more like 350 lbs, the class minimum. Compared to 452 lbs wet for the Ducati. The Duc IS an overweight pig. |

Most folks haven't a clue what Buell invested in terms of engineering, research and development, verification testing, prototyping , tooling. It could easily exceed the cost of production parts.
Characterizing any Ducati repliracer as a "pig" may not do much to aid one's credibility. Take it easy on the Kuell Aid fellas. |

The XBRR is said to weigh in at 362 LB sans fuel. With 4.4 gallons of fuel, that increases by about 28 LBs to 390 LBs full wet weight.

Does the AMA require the bikes to meet class minimums at race end, with near empty tank, or can the bikes be weighed with a full tank? |

Always remember the AMA smiles on two motorcycle companies, HD and Honda. those two have supported the AMA racing series in the US for many years. the level of support they give the AMA gets them respect and consideration.
Hold a road race with a competitive harley in it and fan attendance goes up 20 to 50 %. Rich Harley fans may be all a venue needs to attract to race again next year. Watch SpeedWeek, advertisers are all japanese and stories are primarily HD. |

Woo Hoo! I can't wait to see that $$31K$$ Buell dominate the 10th spot on the podium under those 600cc Crotchity Rockets! I hope some those bad boys make it to Pike's Peak this year. |

The Ducati 999 is in the Superbike class, and the Buell XBRR is going to be running in the Formula Xtreme class.
No comparison.
Ben Bostrom and Neil Hodgson are pro racers on a factory 999.
The XBRR won't be able to keep up with the first 8 600cc bikes in FX, mark my words.
When Blake starts to tell people to lay off the Kuell Aid, it really is time. |

I guess the folks in East Troy have just wasted a ton of money 'cause I am pretty sure they are expecting better than that. |

I'm just glad to se Buell is finally doing somthing to show they are serious about building a motorcycle for the sport bike market.... not just an already loyal fan base...
I hope to see them do well this season... just not willing to sell the house and run down to the local sports book to lay everything on the line for them just yet. |

I look for the bright side of things and am pleased to see every statement in that post equally accurate.
I simply can not imagine living my life with such a negative attitude.
Let me tell you what I expect from Daytona. I expect to go. I expect to see FRIENDS I've known for years, 3 onwards of 20 years, and I expect to have a wonderful time.
Beyond that it's icing on the cake. If every Buell in the grip sputters pre-start to a halt, if wind and water make the race unrunnable, none of those things will make me have a "bad" time.
Ask any of the Buellers who met in Dallas last night how much one bad BBQ rib would have dulled the evening.
Imagine for a moment if just one of the ELVES on the XBRR development team had held such a negative attitude.
Success...be it guitars, motorcycles, work, friends, kids and family. It's all about attitude.

Take Duhamel & Zemke out of the equation
This was quoted from the Sport Rider Special Edition Photo Annual, page 48:
"The official Honda team will not race the Formula Xtreme class in '06 with Duhamel and Zemke concentrating on Superbike."
This makes things EXTREMELY interesting for Daytona! |

Court you obviously read my post out of context. I guess since you are so busy looking for negativity you haven't noticed me jumping around like a school girl the last couple of days.
On behalf of Court the following statement is neither meant to be positive or negative, just accurate. Duahmel and Zemke will be making the 200 their only Xtreme race of the year. The previous statement did not imply that the author of this post is endorsing Duhamel or Zemke as predestined winners just participates. Go Buell!!! (positive enough?)
