Thomas bought this bike after the guy was able to start it - sold - 1500. In the Bay area a fair working bike, is worth that. He managed to drop it twice - loading it and unloading it - sigh. Hi did manage to ride it over - a 5 mile trip - with 6 turns to my place - after recharging a new battery - he says he drained trying to fix the blinkers in front and rear - right side worked, brake does not - how it was running was a good question. Things I did - rejet, shim needle, adjust air screw, replaced plug - after checking and making sure of index - Thomas put it in, max airbox mod, exhaust mod, never got to clutch or primary - usually do those bike warm, deleted airbox hose and re-routed hose from head pcv to filter hanging off scoop mount - scoop not present. Things wrong with the bike that I noticed - no plug on aux. carb vacuum line where in Cali it goes to charcoal epa canister - deleted - so I plugged that - got all done with that - had battery on trickle charger - just in case - told him to go around the block twice and we'd see what's up - any glitches, etc. Schmuck ignores me and turns onto a main road, and goes a mile down - is fine, then makes a right, bike looses power, he pulls over - coasting to the next intersection, parks it, tries to start it - no go - locks it and starts walking back. After waiting 10 min. I get in car and start looking for him - go 1 block west - no Thomas, then start back to do east turn - go east - past 1 block - peaking down 1st turn road - no Thomas - 2nd turn road still no Thomas - these roads connect to other road on other side like a ladder - third side road still no Thomas, but then I see him walking towards me up the road. Go to him, pick him up and back to the bike we go. He says it won't start, it starts and we are off, he makes the one turn, then the second, but then it dies. We wait, then try it, I have him remove gas cap and it starts, but after 1 turn dies, starts, then 1 turn dies. At house - starts - idles and revs fine for 10 min., take it to go around culdasac - ok till u-turn - dies. push it home, try to start, but won't, so put it on trickle charger. Take Thomas home. Try to start it in morning - no go - dis-able safeties no go, start looking stuff over - replace auto 3 way relay with proper 4 way, and also replace other relay to eliminate that issue, no start . Replace coil and plug wire with known good item - no start - can jump start from battery to solenoid, but Terry P says that doesn't do much unless you want to put a push button on the solenoid - lol - I may, if nothing else works. Replaced switch at handlebar, no start - old one corroded at contacts. Tested BW wire from switch to coil - grey wire good - dead - replaced, fuse stopped blowing, but still no start, next option is other BW wire, but if that isn't it I'm lost - since I've already replaced all the pertinent stuff. Any ideas - am I missing anything?

Note: do not replace parts like I did - I had extra known good parts, so I used them as a short cut - but still nada - sigh...

No start?: Engine turns over, but doesnt start or engine wont turn over?
Assuming it turns over:
Did you disable the BAS, if it had one? 2000's didnt, but you should still check to see if it does.
How is the LED? Regular flashing? Erratic flashing?
Spark?
Check for a pinched or broken wire around the steering head? (if all else fails you can yank the speedo off and run without it. That will lessen the strain on nearest wiring and eliminate the speedo as a cause!).
Did the guy say it had a problem?

You broke my #1 rule: Absoloutely no changes until some miles are put on the bike or the initial problem is (certified after some mileage), fixed.

Yeah - but then I never touched any electric - so I wanted to rule out electric part failure, and had the extra good parts to do so - and it is definitely an electric malfunction of some type. Just trying to rule out obvious stuff asap to get it running - lol

Well, first rule still stands!; )

Since it seems that turning causes a problem, that points to the BAS (if equipped) or bad/pinched wire.

Yeah - the bike has a lot of bad wiring issues - - will leave it at that - going to cheat and see about jump starting and running - if it does, then I'll cheat some more - lol

I'm going to check the other BW wire to the ignition and the red/black wire to the 4 way relay - it's not getting power and I suspect it is supposed to.

Thought from other conversation - Naw - a wire from the battery to the solenoid - flipping contact switch on - will turn, but not start - kinda points to the BW wire from the handle bar to the ignition connection, but the black-red wire - should that also be producing power when contact on button is pushed? Should it not be a hot wire? Before I replace the one - I want to know more about the RB wire - if no power - should it not be shooting power to the starter when I hit the switch?
