hey guys!

The benefit I had in mind would be that with the center bearing, the belt wouldn't be trying to yank the pulley off the wheel. It's like when you use a ratchet with an extension on it - if you don't hold the head of the ratchet with your other hand to stabilize it, then the socket will slip off the nut. The pulley is like the ratchet, and the belt is like your hand pulling on the handle (the top of the pulley). The offset between the centerline of the belt and the centerline of the tire is like an extension. The longer the offset, the more benefit you'd get from a center bearing.

that's my theory, anyway.

If you just took an open-centered pulley, drilled 5 holes, and bolted it to the blast wheel with some spacers in between, I figure something would break, and probably cause MAJOR unpleasantness!

But if you used a pulley with a center bearing that rode on the rear axle (or on custom bushing/spacers), then the wheel/pulley spacers would just have to deal with the torque, and not the "wrenching the pulley off the wheel" effect. Also, if the spacers did fail, then (in theory) the pulley would just freewheel, instead of jumping around and jamming in between the wheel spokes and the swingarm or some other catastrophic thing.

I was thinking a single ring would be more stable than 5 separate spacers.

I felt around on the back of a v-rod pulley at a dealership yesterday, and it didn't seem as flat as I had hoped in the area where I think the blast rear wheel pulley bosses would line up. I guess a spacer ring could also be a bolt circle adapter.

...but I seriously doubt that I could make parts of the required quality on my drill press!

Certainly a theory worth merit, but unfortunately I dont think anybody is going to do it soon, unless they really have a need for it.

I have a 2002 Blast and I put a Sportster Drag pipe on it and a velocity stack off a sportster and I also replaced the shock with a strut and it lowered it about three inches an}}d made it rigid.I am getting a lot of looks and comments. Every one likes the looks and ask me what it is.They can't believe its a blast.

I will send some pictures when I get some and figure out how.I just changed my head light.I put some side mounts from the tubes and put a 5"chrome chopper headlight in place of the stock one.I also removed the small piece above the head light. I put some 6" dog bone risers.and put drag bars on it.New grips and mirrors. This bike had been setting for three years in salt air.You can imagine what kind of shape it was in.I am mounting a tach between the dog bones.

So ive got an 05 Blast just sitting around at my shop and a frame jig thats not being used at the moment along with a FULL machine shop at my disposal so i made up my mind. Gonna do a custom no downtube frame that goes down into a hardtail. Also want to do the board track style fuel tank(mounted underneath the backbone). So boardtrack racer it is!!

Plus i cant sell it now anyways cause i kinda promised it to my girlfriend...

Hey Texas...

Are you making that new frame yourself? Would you be interested in building a custom frame for someone?

Hey, Spudnik. Yeah, im making the frame myself(well with my machinist since hes a better welder... lol) but yeah, im building the bike completely in house. Yes, I would be interested in doing some custom frame work. PM me and we can talk more about what it is your looking for.

Some more pics of parts for the custom boardtracker.

Here is the DNA -4 powdercoat black springer front end.

Here are the rims im using. Off an old Yamaha XS650. They are 19" and using both front rims for front + rear for that boardtracker look. They will be powdercoated before going on.

Well, had the surgery on my foot. Gonna be at least a month before i do anything more on the bike.

I did trade a jet washer i had to a buddy who builds, among other things, custom turbos at his performance shop. Im going to use the Garrett T-3 turbo afterall. He is going to build me a custom impeller to get the characteristics i want out of it.

If you plan to use a chain drive to hold the power of the turbo, what type engine pulley do you plan to use. I am working on a 2002 Blast engine into a Brass Balls Bobber rigid frame. Any help will be appreciated.

To tell you the truth i havent gotten that far yet. It uses a sporty transmission so if you find a chain drive conversion for a sportster it should work. Im actually planning to fab up a small brake rotor to the front drive pulley and have a hidden brake similar to something they sell for big twins, except the ones i saw for BT's are all belt driven.

http://www.hotbikeweb.com/tech/1009_hbkp_led_sled_ sportster_chain_conversion/index.html

http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/xl/index.htm

A quick google search turns up a couple different sportster chain conversion kits. You wont be able to use the stock blast rear wheel without a custom fabbed adapter plate, but if your going chopper/bobber your probly changing the wheels anyway. Anyways, hope this helps

Thanks Firebolt, your links have given me the right place to start. I have a set of 07 Sportster wheels that I plan to use (Narrow glide front end for the frame). I am only using the engine and parts of the wiring harness for the project. Will post some pics when I get farther along. I am new to the Buell scene but couldn't pass up the deal on this engine/bike.

Little update guys. I moved my shop to a new, bigger location about a month ago. I didnt have a welder since i was using the machine shops welder since we were in the same building, but i bought a Miller TIG welder a couple weeks ago, and since then ive been having problems with my foot from a wreck i had a couple years ago and ended up going in last week for an emergency surgery to have it amputated after i got a real bad infection. So now im waiting to heal up, then ill be getting back on it. Its always something that comes up but it will be done one of these days.

I was informed about something Led Sled Custom is building for their Evo sporty and thought it might work for the blast, and would be great on your cafe build Fire.

Evo Sporty Kick Starter. : D
I plan to get one eventually : D
Would be great to fire up a blast with a kick.

Keep us posted on the kickstarter. A link if possible.

While a kickstarter would be cool, kicking an old Sportster was not for the timid! An Evo Sportster even worse. And big thumpers were never on the easy kick list.
Big Twin Harleys - easy. Go figure!
