No but I did do some bus inspection videos back in the 90s, I even got to keep my clothes on.

I have hundreds of ideas but I am on dial up, maybe I will as I am driving around and get a wifi connection.

ok , I know this isnt the right section (and im sorry), but i have been having a clunking/clanging noise coming from the primary. it sounds like something is rolling around in there. i did a trans fluid change 2 days ago. the sound is not as loud(i was able to hear it over my v&h at idol and in gear).
there was bearly in fluid in there. the guy i baught the bike from lied to me. he said he did a complete fluid change a week before i baught it.
anyways...since the fluid change the sound has lessend but is still there and on a brighter note, my shifting is a little smoother. i am going to be going in and doing a primary and clutch adjustment. i am wondering if i should be worried about what i might find once i take the cover off.
i do not have a cage and the blast is my only mode of transpo. should i stop riding her till i figure out what is going on? thanks in advance guys.

Loud clanking is bad. Stop riding it. Adjust the primary chain and my guess is its never been adjusted.
If you did the fluid change did you take the shortcut (trans vent line) or pull the clutch cover (if you pulled the clutch cover, that was the time to adjust the clutch).
Adjust the clutch cable last.

Helpful link to other helpful links. The finger tight and back a half turn primary chain adjustment seems (to me) to be a good quick adjustment until you can do it properly.

i took the shortcut. i dont have the universa;l joint right now and could only get 2 out of 3 nuts off.

ok i do not have a service manual at the moment and am not sure which bolts are what. out of the 2 bolts, which on do i turn to tighten/loosen the primary? the one on the "inside" or the "outside". and where is this spacer that i keep reading about? sorry for the lack of better words.
im going to be getting a service manual asap though.

i would love to have a fellow thumper come and help me. anyone in/near raleigh NC and want to help?

No! But I learned a lot about why the caps go bad and its not a bad cap to start with.
Problem is that the fuel cap boot starts to shrink with age or non use. Then it clamps itself tightly around the gas cap. The gas cap wasnt designed for this kind of friction, so when you turn the 'lock' to open the gas cap, the plastic locking piece of the cap stays put. So the cap is loose but you cant remove it. The plastic lock piece of the cap is 'keyed' (like "0", a flat sided zero), so when you turn the lock/tab the "0" gets rounded out into a perfect circle. If its not gotten bad enough, some can just tighten the gas cap nut and fix it (a loose nut can also cause the same stuck cap problem, but the more plausible cause is the shrunken boot).

The solution seems to be to keep the fuel cap boot lubricated with gasoline. If storing the bike, manually lubricate the boot with something else (I'm not sure what would be safest-suggestions?).Replace the fuel cap boot (but since I dont have a new boot to compare too, I dont know if there is any difference).
The old fuel cap boot (not to be confused with "Das Boot") can be stretched out with a can or bottle, but pulling the boot off is more effective and storing the bike with a bottle sticking out of the tank is inconvenient!

New fuel cap is $45. New "boot" is $12. Unless they've improved the cap (dont think so, I dont have an updated part #), sticking will happen again if the boot isnt 'repaired'.

The gas cap can also get stuck from the top o-ring sticking, but once pried up it should come off.

I was going to take pictures and such, but since Felicita asked, I answered (at length!) I'll move this post to a more suitable place later

Swampy: Nothing special. But to post "Anonymous" you must have a really good reason, usually someone whose identity needs to be kept confidential-an example would be if Erik Buell wanted to post. "Anonymous" posting can/has been abused by people who want to start trouble or controversy or imply they're someone else (or any other reason you can think of).

I think this was just a plain old keying/typing error.

Oh, fellow Blastards, I'm confused.

Thumper is a clicking and rattling and sometime thunking in the area of the primary. Here's the deal:

Clunking sounds like a chain slapping.
It's not regular. Sometimes it'll thunk against the shifter and I can feel it through my foot. Sometimes it will do it when I let the clutch out. Sometimes it won't.

Sometimes it does it on acceleration. Sometimes on decel. Some times not at all. Sometimes a lot.

I have successfully adjusted the primary. The clutch is not slipping. Sometimes the shifter gets goofed up between gears like my old Sportster did, but not on a regular basis. 90 percent of the shifts are excellent.

My top speed is 80, before I backed off. It accels rapidly with no issues.

I am leaking gear oil from around the clutch cable at the primary. I have not drained the primary and refilled it since 4,000 miles (I now have 6,500)

It rattles enough that I hear it at least once a day (I commute every day) but can't find any way in which its affecting performance.

Am I paranoid? I may just take it to the dealer for a clutch/primary oil/fluid change.

If I heard inconsistent sounds like that - I'd not ride her, time to crack open the primary and see whats what.

Also check the clutch cable housing carefully for cuts that could be causing your leak.

I'm amazed how much better my Blast is running tonight!

I previously increased the pilot to 48 and tonight I upped the Main Jet from 165 to 175 and Wow! What a difference. Pulls harder & stronger. Low speed run-ability is 100% better. Exhaust sounds better (decel pop almost gone) and even seems like it might be running cooler. I just hope the previous owner didn't burn anything by running it too lean with the Pro Series exhaust & intake.

Rainman: that kind of noise "and I can feel it through my foot" is bad. Fix it or take it in.
Changing the fluid is very easy (IE: you can do it), but I dont think that will fix your problem.

Damn. I was afraid you were going to say that. If I baby it on the backroads and stay off the freeway, I can make it to the dealer. they don't entirely suck, luckily.

I'm afraid I have neither time nor ability to tear open the primary and actually know what's wrong. Of course, neither do I have the money, anymore.

It's funny that it just came on kind of sudden, just before I adjusted the primary and, while the primary adjustment made it better, it's still there at random.

It was a Riders Edge bike, so maybe it went down hard on the left side once or twice.\

Ah, heck: Teen girls, mothers, college, work cutbacks, gas prices, increasing monthly bills and shrinking spending money, rattling Blasts: It's never boring.
