Get some plumber's teflon tape - keeping your adjuster head nut where it is with an adjustable wrench, loosen locking nut, then turn adjuster bolt about 8 flats out, wrap base of bolt closest to the case with about 3 layers of teflon tape, turn adjuster bolt back in 8 flats, then tighten down lock nut till tight. Voilla - leak gone - teflon tape will cure a lot of small drips and leaks including the dreaded clutch cable - lol.

I did a quick search to no avail... What the heck does the Status line in the profiles mean, and where does it come from?

Just purchased a used 2001 Blast yesterday.

It's a fun ride and going to use it for commuting to save wear n tear on my Ulysses.

May look a little silly at 6'3" but who cares as it should get good fuel economy too.

Some of you may be familiar with my Uly MPG Database used to store and compare Uly fuel economy stats.

Well, since I now have a Blast I've added another section to the database to store and compare Blast fuel economy.

Please feel free to add your data to the database. It's very easy and lets you track your mileage and compare to all other Blasts in the database. Please use your forum name when you enter your data.

Thump, my primary leaks at the adjuster too - nothing major, the oil just soft of weeps out, so the locknut and bolt are always a little oily.

I'm planning to add a nylon flat washer or an o-ring or some kind of seal between the locknut and the case at my next oil change - maybe that'll help.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. How many miles on your bike Berkshire? It was suggested to me that maybe they used a lighter grade of oil for the engine break in (at least in the olden days according to my father-in-law) and that it should stop once they put the correct oil weight in it.

Other blasts I have casually checked out around didn't seem to have this problem.

I will try the tape Ez suggested when I do the 2500 oil change.

Last time I looked it was over 15K - I've got 20w-50 synth motor oil in it.

Welcome to the Thumper Forum 08uly!

Berkshire, check to make sure the clutch cable housing is not cut. I found the Big Kids Blast cut and leaking.

On a sad note, my wife was visiting her 80 year old blinding mother and her mother died while they were sitting on the patio talking Tuesday morning. It was great that my wife was with her and taking care of her for the week while the rest of her family was at the lake on vacation. I was 500 miles away in the U.P. When I got the call so I did a bunch of driving to be with her and the family, and I am still the family a$$hole, go figure? The mother-in-law was quite a woman, always taking care of everybody, fussing with the grandkids, treating everybody like kings. She loved being on the back of a motorcycle, just last Saturday my wifes nephew brought his new Sportster up from Indiana, we helped her climb up on the seat and off she went with a big smile on her face. I'm acting like mister safety, "Uh, guys, uh, do you think this is a good idea?" It was great, lots of wonderful memories.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome. I'm getting to know the Blast and enjoying it on my commute. I have rearsets on it and the pro series filter & can. The gal i bought it from said it might not be jetted correctly so have to look at that (has some idle issues) also just ordered a set of MT-75's (about the cost of one of my Uly tires LOL).

The Header/muffler is rusty but the steel seems solid. Going to have it ceramic coated by Jet-Hot when I get the time to pull it off.

To: All Buell Dealers

Subject: Safety Recall Campaign 0835

Dear Buell Dealers:

Buell Distribution Company, LLC. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety may exist on certain 2007 and 2008 model year Buell Blast model motorcycles built May 29, 2007 through June 03, 2008.

The fuel tanks on these Blast model motorcycles may experience some local deformation under high-heat conditions that creates contact of the tank with the cylinder head. In some of these cases, the head rubbing on the fuel tank has created a fuel leak. This could result in a crash or fire, which could cause injury or death to the rider.

We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0835) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles. The remedy is to remove bracket part number P0044.T and replace it with a new bracket which prevents the fuel tank from contacting the cylinder head. A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure will follow within two weeks. Based on the schedule our supplier has provided we expect to begin shipping our first wave of repair kits, on or before the week of September 15, 2008.

In the interest of the safety of our mutual customers and as required by law, you may sell but NOT DELIVER any affected motorcycles to your customers until the remedy is completed. Please refer to h-dnet.com on the Service Page/Safety and Product Campaign/Open Safety Campaign Instructions and the Safety Campaign and Open VIN Lists in the Service Toolbox for an updated list of affected VINs for this recall. Select the appropriate campaign number link (0835) to view any outstanding vehicles involved.

If your dealership sponsors a Rider’s Edge training program utilizing 2007 or 2008 model year Blasts built in the date range above, please inspect these motorcycles before and after every class event to confirm that the clearance between the right side cylinder head fins and the right side of the fuel tank’s tunnel is 1/8 inch or more. If the clearance is less than the 1/8 inch minimum, the motorcycle must be removed from Rider’s Edge duty until the recall service is completed.

In accordance with Federal regulations administrated by NHTSA, Buell Distribution Company, LLC will provide notice to all owners of record of affected products with direction to bring the vehicle in for the recall service.

Sincerely,

Buell Distribution Company, LLC

***First time on this site***
HEY! Soooo I got my blast this May and can't stop riding it where ever I go! I have a few friends riding on Harleys and another group riding on Ninjas....well, because i'm so tiny (5'1 - 110 lbs."wet") I can't imagine fitting better on any other bike.

I really like the Buells and from what i hear, their handling and overall riding experience is everything I hoped for in a bike. Real great....well what about when I'm done with 500ccs and what to upgrade (i can already feel it now). I've seen them being turned into choppers but I'm not quite ready for such a dramatic change.

Something I found extremely difficult is finding mods for the bike...or is it just me?? I recently saw lights from a dirt used on Buell (thanks ezblast!).

I don't know where to start and who to ask...how much hps can I get on it...what do I do to take it there....UGH so many questions i know.

Skala,
Welcome to the Thumper Forum. Just ride it, then ride it some more. Then put some big Avon tires on it and ride the heck out of it. Lear how to work on it yourself, it accents the riding experience. If you haven't already done it rejetting the carburetor is a first step modification, then Super Bike bars, then exhaust, then lights, then cams, then rearsets, then a big bore kit and a little heavier cams.....or an XB head and some different cams.

But the first line of business is find some roads with curves.

And welcome to the board Skala..we have some of the best minds here...there is info a-plenty...remember a few really important things...good tires, good skills, good armor (even if it seems too hot outside)...these lil buggers are FUN to ride.

Thanks guys.

After the funeral this afternoon, the church put on a luncheon at my mother-in-laws house. One thing my MIL was, "she was a damn good cook"(as put by one of her girl friends), and as I was sitting around eating, I got a little overcome because I was thinking "this is the last time we will all be eating here like this as a family" I had alot of holiday dinners there, she was alway up to have a good time. The grandson who took her for a ride on his new Sportster last Saturday left with his wife on the bike just before the funeral started to go to Milwaukee for the 105. He had to catch the ferry across from Muskegon. Everyone was good about it and it was mentioned by the pastor during the service. Thats the way grandma would have wanted it.

I used to spend my summers in Michigan...the family went there to work..yup, we were migrant workers. To this day when I smell peaches, I can still see the peach packing barn : ) And I haven't had a REALLY GOOD apple since the last time I was there.

Anyways, we worked on a farm near a little town called Millburg...they had a motorcycle race track there..TT and Flat Track...My dad loved the races and we went often..THAT was when I got bit by the motorcycle bug when I was maybe 9 years old...THAT was a SERIOUSLY LONG TIME AGO!!
