So, I have free flowing intake and exhaust, and the Pro Series cams. I went with slightly bigger jets and shims on the needle, yet got white on my spark plug. I was getting about 55 MPG before and after. I adjusted the primary in accordance with the modified service manual's instructions (modified to 9 flats). I even went another 1/2 turn further just in case. I still average 55 MPG. Once, I rode around all day with a slow group, averaging 50-55 MPH, with very few stops. Got max mileage at about 63 MPG. The boot is currently not leaking. It isn't running dangerously lean, and isn't smelling like it's running overly rich, either. A long time ago, I went WOT down the highway, and topped out a little over 90. Now, 85 is my max. I haven't gotten any kind of compression testing done. A quart of oil lasts a couple thousand miles at least. My wife tells me I shouldn't complain, since the Jeep gets 15, and the van gets 20. Heck, our new tiny car, the Aveo 5, only gets a little over 30.

So, here's the question: What's wrong with my Blast? Is the engine getting tired? Any suggestions in addition to a compression/leakdown test that I'm going to try to get done next time I get a chance?

Do a compression check.

Your top speed should not be going down, and with your mods you should be getting to it quicker. You have me scratching my head and coming back to this question - why less top end?

Probably black, or yellow - but they will knock down your top speed and gas mileage in any color. So will underinflated tires.

Front: 28-30. Rear: 32-36. I did get a mesh jacket, but it is black. I recently changed the air cleaner. I haven't checked the mileage yet since then. Compression check is in order, then.

I'd be happy with 55mpg!
I'm only getting about 40 mpg. The mpg with the streetBlast has sucked since I got it. However, the cylinder, piston, head, carb (& jetting), cams, air cleaner and ignition have all been changed since I got it as well as the primary adjustment. Compression is still at 200PSI and was 175 before I pulled it apart. Of course its much faster now and I'm rarely easy on the throttle.
The raceBlast which I bought new, regularly got 50+ mpg, close to 70mpg highway before and after modifications (has since been stripped down for racing-mpg now unknown).

The only commonality our bikes share is the exhaust. You're running the 'cherry bomb special' and I'm running a V & H with an aftermarket HD muffler.
Is that the difference? Is it the poor quality gas? Your top speed decreasing definitely indicates a problem though.

If I ran across a cheap Supertrapp, I'd try it. Maybe I'll get my old ProSeries back and try that. Just to eliminate the only constant in the equation. Otherwise I'll wait for an EZ 'Superpipe' and spend the money there.
