Well the Blast took a beating last weekend, the daughter had a get off and the Givi A755 fairing/crash protector, got totalled. She's okay and continued putting on almost 500 miles after the fall(a lot of bruises and rasberries, the gear helped but the elbow pad slid out of the way). Total damages to bike destroyed Givi, Broken turn signal, scuffed bag, bent gear peg and looks like a slightly bent left peg hanger. All in all not too bad for the crash/fall it took. I can only imagine the damage one of my 2 guzzis would have sustained in the same crash. I like this bike more and more.

Mine got dumped the first time I road it across wet grass. The front wheel sunk into mud and the boat anchor lived up to its name...

I picked the bike up really fast and the bike didn't have a mark on it afterward - except for the mud, of course. Didn't even break the signals!

: )

Glad your daughter is unphazed and OK.

Got some bad news. My partner also rides a blast and she was hit early this morning. A guy in a pick up truck turn right in front of her and she went over the hood. She is ok. I am glad she wears full gear. Worth every penny. The guy says he never saw her. Even better he doesn't have a license or insurance. Just wanted to remind everyone to be safe and always wear your gear.

Wolf, glad she is OK. That is the biggest fear I have on the Blast, because of the small size, folks think it's just a scooter and not moving 65 mph. I've had a couple of close ones myself. Good for all of us to use this lesson and sharpen up our skill sets. And wear your gear!

Def hate to hear about crashing...at least it seems there was no serious injury....Stupid Cagers!! I had one try to pull out in front of me yesterday...looked right at me and rolled out of a parking lot in front of me...thankfully the road was perfect for some serious stopping action...he stopped half way in the lane...I wheeled up, banged his hood with my fist...shook a finger at him ....his eyes were as big as saucers!!! Probly too much to ask that it made any kind of lasting impression...there is no excuse for "not seeing" someone...unless maybe they are coming at you at warp speed.

In Tampa, all the time somebody on a crotch rocket running at ludicrus speed center punches a car on the causeway. Ever see a 'busa hit a delivery truck at a buck seventy-five?...no need for a helmet or armor there...

Hey Erik - is James racing any more - need a rider?
Ed"

Yes and no. He was offered a really good deal on a 'full race' bike, with a near stock single cylinder engine (which means reliable). That took 10 seconds off his lap times (averaging appx 89mph-which is almost impossible on a 'near stock' Blast). Racers always want to go faster anyway: ) He's been using the Blast for the 'short track', but time and life prevented him from running the first 2 races of the year (of only 4 at the short track) and time and money has kept me from considering offering/letting anyone else race it.
I've still got a full list of mods I'd like to try, but that'll have to wait. Maybe for the time when the Blast qualifies as vintage!

Reuel: These are exactly how the gears are supposed to look. Thanks to the newfangled invention, the digital camera, I always take a picture of the timing marks before I pull the cams out. Saves the usual question of "is that right"? There are many dots on the cams. There is one that is hard to see in the picture, but its there. Those are cams on a stock bike never taken apart. Sadly, I never take a picture of the new (non stock) cams going in-didnt seem necessary at the times.

Left gear is the oil pump gear (attached to the pump).Behind the next gear to the right is the oil pump drive gear (bolted directly onto the crankshaft).

(The other picture at the linked thread is slightly better)

For better pics of the 'oil pump drive gear' shredded:

Oh. I never looked at mine. I just kind of pulled, and it came right out. That's how I accidentally upgraded mine. Had to find TDC, then I put the new ones in.

Does anyone know if a Sportster clutch cable fits on a Blast? Or any other bike's cable for that matter?

Yes.
If it still has the original battery, the battery's going bad.

I think the only cable that may fit is an M2 cable. Check out the sites for Barnett clutches or Motion Pro and you'll probably find a cross reference, if any.
