Welcome Felicia!
You're just down the road, unfortunately I'm leaving for 2 weeks or I'd offer to help take a look at them.
1st: How much do they want?
Both bikes look modified and I think they are about equal in choice (from the information given. The 01 looks like it has a BUB pipe and will probably be loud. The 02 does look like a stock exhaust, maybe its a bad or old picture. The Jardine can be loud too. I'd probably go for the 02. Not much difference in mileage and the later the model year the better.
A completely bone stock Blast with low mileage is the best bet. I'd want to see exactly how much modification has been done to either bike and by whom.

Thanks Erik!

Price on both are the same - ~$2300
I was told I may want to go for a newer model - '03 and up - as they have less problems.

This would be my first street bike so I would want something that I wouldn't have to worry about too much in terms of servicing.

I guess for now I'll hold off for a newer model. If you hear of any let me know!

Thanks!

Check ebay, they have 2004 blasts for under 2K all the time. Shipping would be around 400 if your not close enough to pick it up, but at least it would be a newer model, maybe less miles... Got my 2004 for 2k but had to drive 200 miles to pick it up. on the up side it fit snugley in the back of my short bed pickup truck : )

$2300 is too much. I'd say pay that for a completely bone stock clean Blast with low mileage, for those years. You could always offer less and maybe Skip Fordyce HD/Buell (Riverside) would check them out.

They both might be perfectly fine motorcycles. My standard advice is to steer clear of any HD/Buell that has been modified, in any way (chrome or otherwise), unless you know the mechanic is reliable or are so gifted yourself or know what you're looking at.
Thats pretty much the name of the game with any used motorcycle of any brand.

Have you checked the Badweb classifieds?

I have looked at ebay - there are some on there but they are all pretty far east from me (1000-2000+ miles away). Checked the classified boards and didn't find anything either.

Unfortunately for me almost everything in this state is more expensive...
I've looked in Nevada, Central California, and Arizona with very little luck.

What should I look at paying for a stock 2003 and up?

Thanks for all the advice. I really appreciate it.

FYI, My girlfriend has been thinking of selling her Blast. It is a 2006 black, stock with only like 1500 miles. She hasn't said how much. And I live in Riverside.

$2000-$3000, certainly more for newer years. Check Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds or NADA for pricing (I dont remember if they all do bikes) and go by their guide. Leftover new can usually knock $500 off the new price. New Blasts lose a $1000 resale once they leave the showroom.
There are probably at least a dozen HD dealers within driving distance of you, so you might want to call around.
Glendale HD/Buell (a Badweb sponsor) is very Buell friendly. Ask for Ernie Snair, he might have some leads. Mention my name, Erik Oberg, and Badweb!

I've been to Skip Fordyce to check out how I liked the Blast. They didn't have any used Blasts in stock (not wanting new for my first bike), but he's got my number (and they sure do call when they have your number : ))

I'll see if the other dealers have anything or if they know of anything.

Thanks for the lead and the info on pricing. I'll let you know what happens and tell Ernie you sent me.

Felicita,

Have you checked craigslist? I see Blasts on there all the time. Smaller bikes are plentiful and cheap right now. The riding season will start soon, so I would expect to see prices start going up. With the warm weather, we noticed a bunch of bikes out last night.

We got my wife's 01 Blast using craigslist from a guy in Murrieta last July (middle of the riding season). Smaller bikes were hard to find at the time. I noticed this winter that smaller bikes are plentiful and cheap. We live in Orange County. The guy's wife took a tumble practicing on her permit and decided she didn't want to ride any more. It had 4000 miles on it, and because there was a little damage and a bald rear tire we got it for $1800. Fortunately, Blast parts are cheap and damage from accidents seems to be limited. My wife said she was happy it had a couple scratches on it, because she wouldn't feel bad if she scratched it.

It took her about a month to get her license. A couple months after she got her license, we got our signals crossed on a turn and she took a tumble trying to avoid hitting me. A very gracious forum member (you know who you are) was generous enough to help us out with a great deal on some spare parts he had. We put her bike back together for less than $100 and now it is in better condition than when we bought it.

Best of luck,
Daris

Just did a quick search on Craigslist for OC, LA, SD and IE. Ouch! Prices are up. They were practically giving them away a couple months ago.

There really isn't anything in the area. I found what I thought was a great deal in Vegas but it was already gone when I called about it. The most luck I've had in finding a variety was on craigslist in San Antonio. A little bit of a drive : )

I just found this deal. She's asking too much (from what I've taken from pricing help given here). But what do you guys (and gals) think?

"2007 Buell Blast - $3700

Great beginner bike. Very low mileage on it. This bike has never been dropped! Excellent working condition. I changed out the seat on this bike to the standard profile seat. It raised it up about 2 extra inches and since I am kind of a tall woman, it really made a difference. But, I do still have the lower profile seat that came with it. I love the bike, but am looking to sale because I just haven't been riding it as much as it deserves to be ridden. I may eventually get another bike, but for now, this may be a great bike for you. If you're interested, please give me a call..."

I've sent her an email asking for more information - we'll see what she says.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Sounds close to what you should pay for a 2007. $4600 new - $1000 'drive off' = $3600. If it is low mileage, excellent condition and never been dropped (very rare for a Blast!), thats a fair price. It might(should?) even still have a warranty!

Felicita,

That is about what I paid for my 2006 in 2006 with 1500 miles and the big windshield.

The warranty will still be good (2 years, unlimited miles). There should be a form in the owners manual to change the official owner. If not, a local Buell dealer will have it.

Felicita, if per chance you end up getting one of the 2 used Blast's you posted, and you per chance decide to buy the one with the BUB pipe, I WILL BUY IT FROM YOU! You could always find a quieter one (Jardine?) on eBay : D I crushed mine against my trans last fall and have been searching for another one since then. I love it loud, love the pipe and wont buy any other! Also, if per chance any other BadWebbers have a BUB they are looking to get rid of...I WANT IT!

If properly built into a header - its a great thing - those though are not - so instead they will rob your top end to give you more in your take off/bottom end - not really worth the trade - the one built into the LSR header is about 1/2 that length and properly built into the header and take off is sweet, but this header delivers all the way up the rpm band - the torque cone is a nice thing in certain dirt-bike applications, but not on this street bike - lol

Any one know if an XB fender elemanation bracket will bolt onto a blast? I see em on ebay for $12 all the time. Was thinking of using one and an led tail light with the sigs built in to clean up the rear. (also the guy that had it before me dropped it and the rear blinker is busted...)
