I would suggest the Avons since most of the roads around us are straight. We have a group of riders that were starting a brag out of brighton. Check us out in the storm fronts under detroit metro hooligans. We havent been meeting much in the winter, but plan on starting up again soon. (Message edited by jugallo94 on January 18, 2007) | ||

Avon Vyper Stryke, AM63. Front 110/70/16-fits like a glove Rear 140/70/16-bend the lower shock mounting tab towards the front. This is not really considered a modification because you can do it with a hammer, LOL I really like the Vyper Strykes over the AM51/52, the front tread pattern looks consistant with the rear and I think the AM51(front) cups after a while. | ||

Ok now please excuse my ignorance here. But I have been researching all morning about this tire issue. Will someone please tell me why the Viper Stryke tires are not listed under motorcycle tires but instead under scooter tires?????? | ||

They were designed for scooters, but fit the blast rims and are speed rated enough for our bikes. | ||

So what about the tire pressures. You guys think running the same pressures as the stock tire?? I would think that with the tires being a little larger that you might want a couple more lbs in each, especially with a larger rider. Just a thought. | ||

I run mine at 30.5 front and rear - as suggested by several track day gurus - lol - size is not that big an issue - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ  | ||

Ordered the Viper Stryke's today from Chapparal. $117 shipped. But my local cycle shops are really gonna hose me on the labor charge to break down the old tires of the rims, and mount and balance the new ones. Is $40.00 per tire a pretty standard price for that? | ||

My shop - in SF, Ca - charges 35 per tire - so its ball park - I know another shop that only charges 20 but their work is substandard, if the work is good - its worth it. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

You're being hosed! That would make your tires $100 each! I'll bet they charge a lot less if you buy the tires from them-if they dont, find another shop-they're hosing everyone. I've never paid more than $20, whether or not I bought the tire from the shop. Warning to the newbies: Running your tire pressures much higher than stock recommendations may cause serious injury or death! Also the 140 rear Vipers must have the minor swingarm modification done if to be run safely. | ||

Kdkgrizz, You live in Howell, right? I live about 28 miles north of Lansing, bring it all to me and I will show you how to mount and balance them. This will save you time and money. I also see in your profile that you are running 75W-90 in your transmission? If you are you need to get that out of there right now! Just run the 20W-50 synthetic in there. | ||

Use a good SYNTHETIC 20W50 in there. You will loose your clutch with the gear lube! It holds 1 Quart. | ||

75w90 Redline is fine in the primary/tranny.Do Not Use the Redline Shockproof-great in Big Twins, bad in Blasts/XB/Sportsters. | ||

Hey Swampy, I finally got around to mounting the new Avons on the kids bike. I was wondering about the tab on the lower shock mount that you mentioned above. There wasn't what I would call a tab there, and there was plenty of clearance between the tire and the Lower shock mount. The one thing I did change around was I swapped around a couple of the rear fender mounting bolts because the one that doubles as a support point for the rear brake line was just a little to long and close to the tire for comfort. If you get a chance can you send me a pic of the tab you mentioned? And you were right the ViperStrykes look great on the bike, I can't wait to give em try when we thaw finally. Good on you! I think they are great tires,(I'm ready for the flaming)size, handling and wear wise.  Here is the thread with the picture of the tab, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/231216.html?1159404704 the tire grows in the center with speed. A hammer and a punch to get things moved into place is all it takes! Did you get the big Vyper Strykes? Did you torque the axles to spec? Anything more puts stress on the bearings and will wipe them out in short order. | ||

Thanks for the link to the pic, for the tab. I can see you point about the tire swelling at speed. I will make a small modification to the tab. So would the rear fender have a similar issue. It's pretty tight to the new tire also. Yes I got the Viper Strykes I went with the 140/70/16 rear and 110/70/16 front. Yes I did torque the axle nut to specs. Always do it's like a religion with me. I got my local shop to do the mount and balance for me for nothing. Well almost nothing I had just bought a couple hundred dollars worth of riding gear for the kid, so they did the tires for me for free. | ||

Hi All I have to put tires on two of my Blasts. (I'll be selling one of them soon, by the way) I'm leaning towards the Viper Strykes, 110/70s-16 front and 140/70p-16 rear. Other than looking out for the rear fender mounting bolts and shock mount, is there anything else to watch for? Are these a good fit? Has anyone spent some quality time with these tires yet? Impressions? Does anyone in my area (Minneapolis) want a set of these tires? I could check into a quantity discount. | ||

The Viper Strykes are great tires if you like to run the twisties! Far better then the stock tires. |
