Personally, I dont think that persimmons tree is worth a dam.It traded curses on to the M2!

Seriously Rotza, I'm glad you're 'okay' (could've been much worse).

Has anyone else done a lot of 2-up riding? If so have you done anything to your rear suspension? Mine seems a too soft with two of us on the bike.

The only time was about 300lbs total and it seemed fine to me. The Blast was designed for 2 up and it will make it feel real soft, but its certainly not for 2 up sport riding!

You can shim up the rear spring and increase the preload, but its probably still going to feel a bit 'wallowy'. You could also install one of the shocks talked about here (Badweb) and elsewhere, but be warned, some will only work for 2 up riding as it changes the suspension to much for rider only riding.

You can also order one of the aftermarket shocks and it will be custom sprung with preload and dampening adjustability - best choice: )and I'm sure the shock would be an easy sell to recoupe some of the money spent on it if you ever sold your Blast!

Man...how does one clean these Blast wheels? What is it about the Mother Co that enamors them so much to unfinished aluminum? : D

My best luck cleaning wheels was using spray on brake cleaner and using a steam cleaner to remove it.

Once the dulness appears, its all over.

To get the wheel clean you can use something like a spray on wheel cleaner. If you want the brite finish back, maybe polish it and paint it?

My wife and I ride 2 up all the time on our local roads. Never had us both on the freeway. We bottom out every once in a while with the stock shock at about 300 lbs. combined. My wife would like a back rest for security so I have been giving thought to creating something.

To think about it I rode the wife around for quite a while on the Blast, I don't remember which one, I was 170 and she was 205, and it was fine....I think....

Ventura makes a luggage rack that could be used for a backrest.

Taking the wheels off the bike and going at them with some wheel cleaner and a brush works well. Takes time though. Thats the only way I've had any success.

Also, if you're going to spend a lot of time hosing your wheels, be careful not to hose the bearings hard or long as you'll get them full of water. I tape mine over if they're off the bike.

I picked up my bike again, today, I was nice riding, but I have no confidence in the bike and feel paranoid when riding it. I seems louder, vibrates more and feels like it will fall apart any minute. It may be fine, but I just don't trust it will last another 1000 miles before breaking again.

They replaced the complete exhaust and all mounting hardware, checked all motor mounts, checked the intake and timing and couldn't find anything wrong. So once again all new parts and in a month or so it will probably come apart.

While I was at the shop, I looked at a new xb9 cityx, but right now I just don't trust Buell, so the chances I get another Buell are pretty low. My next bike will probably be a Kawa 650R or Triumph 675 (naked version coming this summer).

The xb9 is very reliable. I traded my '00 Blast in late '02 (with 10k miles) for the then new xb9s. It is the most reliable of 7 cycles I have owned in 30+ years. Much better build quality than the Blast; imho of course.

Before you leave the brand (and the two others you mentioned look fine) why don't you test ride the xb9?

Sounds like you tripped the bank angle sensor. Have you shut the bike off completely, then re started it (yes, I know you've probably done that by now)? It should reset itself.
Its possible the bank angle sensor stuck in the tripped position. Follow the repair manual for location. (located under the tail section, right hand side, where the body piece meets the frame).
If you pull off the bank angle sensor you should be able to hear the metal roller moving around. Its a 'smart' switch, so it wont reset unless the bike is turned off.
Sorry, I cant be much more help tonight or tomorrow, please keep us posted.

Well, I thank that you are right, I had already located the switch, but I tried leaning the bike ready far to the opposite side of the fall. Now I have spark, but battery is to dead to try and start. Have to wait to charge the batter to see if that will work. Thank You for your time

Oops. Go to the top here, find Knowledge Vault, then Body Parts, then look for Rear Sets, and Pegs. I'll go fix that link...

After a long three ( !!! ) year nap, my Buell Blast is alive again!

The back story is quite simple. In 2000, I wanted to ride. Buell, being the "American Sportbike" of the day, was my first choice. The Blast was chosen because I couldn't afford to drop one of the tube-frame Buells, and it was the newest thing out.

Loved the bike from the start. Did the usuall things, (cried for a year untill the Vance and Hines pipe came out), drilled my airbox, installed ALL the Buell Pro Series parts when they came out, etc etc. Learned alot about bike maintenance with this bike.

Did my first badweather trip from Shreveport to Dallas, in the cold fall rain. Rode it all over north Lousyana. I used it to take my first wife on her "final ride", over to Texas to spread her cremains. Taught my second wife how to ride on this Blast, which she rode for several months before I bought her her "own" bike.

One weekend in 2005, My wife and I rode up to Arkansas on the Buell and my (new at the time) 04 Superglide. On the final leg home, the Blast developed a shifting problem...couldn't get it to shift at all. Made the trip home intereting.

Tore the bike down for repairs, got sidetracked, deployed for Enduring Freedom, etc. Bike sat 2 years. I found a set of Pro Series cams on EBay. Stoked, I got the cams installed, then stalled out myself again. Bike sat for another year, half complete.

Yesterday, a friend came over, taking about his new project bike, a 80's something Honda 550cc TWO STROKE. He wanted to see my bike, to compare (I think he was trying to hint that he wanted my forks....) Asked what it would take to get it running again.

Gee, I don't know...install the carb, check the brakes, mabe a few other things....

So he left, and a short while later, I was outside sweating to the oldies (classic rock blaring from my car, as I banged on the Blast in a manner totally in violation of my apartment lease)

I poured some Marvel Mystery Oil in the intake valve, exhaust valve (ok, on the floor), in the spark hole, installed the carb, flushed the fuel tank, filled her up with oil, dry cranked it to get the oil flowing thru the system before I fired it up....

The punchline is..after I installed the spark plug and put gas int he tank...I cranked, and cranked, and cranked. Oh yea..TURN ON THE GAS.

BAROOOM! It fired right up! it sat for THREE YEARS and didn't bat an eye getting started again.

The rear brake caliper had frozen up, but the front still worked, so I took it for a spin.

The Blast ran like a rabid chihuahua. Lots of anger, if not quite screaming performance There was a very scarey ticking from the lifters, the cold-crank didn't fill them up enough, but they quieted down after a few easy miles.

Can't say how much the Pro Series cams helped, but the bike *sounds* angry now, which is a good thing. Spins up to redline very quickly, highway use is quite easy, and this thing still handles like a dream.

Today I rebuilt the back brake caliper (wow, that was easy!), drained all the old brake fluid from front and rear and refilled with fresh (Hey, i got brakes!)

Rode around 35 miles on it today, up to the AF Base, up to Wally World, etc. Cranked it up for two miles or so up on I20.

I think I remember why I love ridng so much now (and typing this all out, thinking of the experiances of the last two days, I can't stop grinning...)

Oh, and this Buell is now louder than my Superglide! Can't wait to take it up to Coyotes and scare some old-timers with it LMAO!

It TRUELY is a Blast!

Have a shop do a port/polish 3 angle job, add better guides, seals, and springs - so far not too expensive by a small shop standards and get either the SE550 or the B70 cam, a hi comp piston - 10.50 with Total seal rings, 48/165 jetting, with a free breathing intake and exhaust - sweet fun indeed!

Hey!
Welcome back Rockbiter1!

Thank you for your service to our country!

What an interesting story, thanks for telling us about your experience.

Well on the way to the Hardcore barbecue Saturday, the Big Kids Blast was ticking/knocking when the thing was idled down. Of course we were runing 80-85mph for 120 miles with one stop for gas. This is also the bike that had the broken oil pump drive gear.

Lousyana, isn't that where I want to live when I grow up?

Nice story, Rockbiter! : D

I just recovered a 2001 Blast from storage and I'm trying to give it the TLC it hasn't received in many years now.

I just installed the Banke rearsets and polished her up with the Plexus stuff. I got a Galfer braided front brake line and some new organic pads to throw on as well as some Avons. The bike really needs TLC...looks like it's been some kids burnout toy as the rear tire is trashed in the middle...very obvious. The primary side clunks terribly and the speedo doesn't work. The thing backfires seriously going up hills under WOT and load.

My rear tire is flat in the middle, and I don't do (many) burnouts...

I was really suprised that my battery was still good...

I've only got 8500 miles on my blast, how fragile are the oil pump gears? I've seen it mentioned several times recently...

Get an oil pump gasket. Remove the pump and lool up in the hole with a mirror and take a look at it.
Don't forget to rotate the engine over to see the other side of the drive gear.

Rockbiter1:

The only engines thet had DRIVE GEAR,oil pump problems were the Tube Frame BUELLs
that had SPORTSTER engines ...

In 2006 the XB's had a DRIVE GEAR,oil pump
PN 26391-06 in them from the factory ...

If you are going to be riding your BLAST hard and have an ignition module in it that will allow it to REV to 7K, then "i" would put this 06 DRIVE GEAR,oil pump in ASAP ...

Have one for my BLAST(still have OEM IGN.
module), but have not put it in yet ...
