well,, the neutral light is only on when in neutral now, so thats good. but now yesterday when i got on it, it was stuck in second. shut it off, started it back up and went in gear fine. but it makes a clicking sound like when it wont go into gear, but this is at idle in 1st gear. should i got ahead and change the tranny fluid to a synthetic? it has 6500 miles, and is an 01. | ||

What did you find that was making the neutral light stay on? Hard shifting? There are a couple of things to try. Change primary fluid to a 20W-50 Synthetic engine oil. Adjust the primary real loose. If that doesn't work, and your shifting is still tough, I would remove the primary cover and check to see if the shift drum retaining bolt has not backed out. That would cause the problem you are describing but is the last thing to do as it is the most difficult. There are plenty discussions and pictures in the Knowledge vault pertaining to this matter. Sounds like your clutch is not properly disengaging. Especially prevalent when cold at a stop. I would say 'primary chain to tight' rather than say 'adjust the chain real loose'. Too loose can be just as bad as too tight. Make sure the clutch and primary chain are properly adjusted. I do agree with the last possibility of the shift drum retaining bolt backing out and changing the tranny fluid to synthetic. | ||

well, changed the primary fluid, adjusted the clutch (still needs to be a little more loose, but at least its better than what it was!) and decided to drive to dallas (about 40 miles) with my roommate and his ZX6R. got down to NW hwy, and the muffler strap fell off. apparently i got to it too late, because it broke off the cast part of the apex hanger on the front of the motor. used some bailing wire, got it jerry rigged to where it would kinda work. stopped 5 more times on the ride back because it kept on falling down. finally got about 4 miles from home, and a ticking i was hearing got louder. realized it was an exhaust leak and thought the weld was cracking so i pulled over again and one of the nuts holding on the exhaust manifold was gone, and the other one almost was. tightened up with a pair of slip locks and hobbled home. dang i need some new exhaust! | ||

OK, so here's why Blast are the best bikes ever made. I've had mine a week, right? Having a lot of fun getting used to it, figuring it out, taking it on the Virginia curves, you know, the usual. Bought because I've got kids on the way into college, the Old Wing was too much maintenance (Lucas possessed it's wiring harness) and couldn't afford a "real motorcycle" with mortgageand collge, right? So, I bought down. Anyway, the little Blastard is parked in the front of the carport, about three feet in front of the dying 88 Suzuki Samauri which my soon-to-get-her-learner's permit 15-year-old is going to back out of the driveway to go driving with her mom. Suddenly, the Zook lurches forward (transmission is shot and it flicked into first), bounces over the 6x6 railroad tie and slams into Thumper, knocking the bike against the pillar and railings that separate the bike, the Zook and the 15-year-old from a two-story fall into the backyard. The Zook is stopped. It can't go over the bike and the bike is resting on its belt guard and right hand mirror. The Zook cannot go backward because the tire is against the 6x6. The rider's peg and the rear brake caliper of the Buell are caught on the Zook's bumper so it cannot be pulled free. I took one look and, after reaching in to turn of the Zook's ignition so it would quit trying to go forward, damn near cried. Alas, poor Thumper. I hardly knew ye. So we get the jack out and lift the Zook and wife, 15-year-old and myself slide Thumper out and up from beneath the little jeep. After the Zook is returned to its proper place on the other side of the 6x6 and the ladies go off to drive, I examine Thumper and find a scratch here and there but no apparent damage. So I start Thumper up and take it for a ride. No problems. Now, had it been my Old Wing, the damage would have been considerable. Had it been the Sportster I sold to buy the house, it would have had dents and scrapes and bends and horrible, horrible screaming and weeping and great gnashing of teeth would have ensued. Nothing. Not a damn thing wrong. God, I love this bike. Thank you, St. Erik the B. Thank you very much. | ||

After my recent crash, I adjusted the shifter lever, fixed the turn signal with PVC cement, and removed the windshield. It's now 100% roadworthy. I have the inspection results to prove it, too! Exhaust was 98db, where I think the limit is 105db. Close! | ||

I layed my blast down the third or fourth time I had it out. I locked up the front tire and rolled the trottle on pretty good without grabbing the clutch and I flipped it over a curb into the grass. I broke a turn signall and got a scratch where the plastic meets the frame. started right up and is still kickin | ||

yo EZ what's your opinion on exhaust/header wrap my pro series exhaust has a less than stellar finish on it. I sprayed the muffler with that high temp paint stuff. and I'm wrapping the header with black wrap. I'm doing it more for cosmetics than anything. any thoughts? | ||

It happens if the gasket is compressed 'just the right way'. I've seen better looking gaskets though. Black header wrap will eventually turn grey. While I dont know if you'll notice a performance change, theoretically you may need to re jet-but I doubt it. It will hold the heat in and the exhaust header will be easier to work around when hot. I would recommend running the tape as close the flange as possible as it may promote cracking the pipe otherwise. | ||

i won't have any problem wraping the header since its off the bike. I rarely drive more than 8 miles at a time. never in the rain yadda yadda, I just lug it around to save on gas. | ||

Header wrap will make the metal brittle in the long run - ok for racing, but for street longevity? - the reason people go to ceramic coating instead. Kyle - if ever in the Bay area again let me know - well go riding! GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

I wouldn't do it...regardless of whether you ride in the rain or not it promotes rust under the wrap. I wrapped my V&H for a few months in the Hawaii dry season before I noticed the wrap being discolored and removed it to find that humidity had set in and created a layer of surface rust. I bead blasted it off and didn't rewrap the pipe afterwards. Most people who have the Pro Series that I know do regular sprayings with BBQ rattlecan to keep it looking good. My choice for a header coating would be JET Hot Last I checked it costs less than $50 to get it done. | ||

tel me about it I kno know where my exhaust leak was coming from. I'm assuming the previous owner didn't replace the gasket when he installed the exhaust. I also know he never adjusted the primary either. I'm beginning to wonder if he ever changed the fluids | ||

damnit! it never ends! got the bracket welded back to where it is good, went to tighten the exhaust manifold and the right side stud is stripped for the first few threads! bought a die to clean up the threads not realizing that the die needs 1/2" clearance and i only have about 1/4" because of the frame. i am THIS close to saying screw it and notching the frame! | ||

thanks EZ - that would go great on my tank bag! Denton - just replace the stud. if you need the Blast for daily xport and can't wait the week or two it might take to get a new one, then you could probably rig something up for temporary use, like cutting off a long bolt or using a short bolt instead of a stud & nut. anyone ever reshaped their seat? I DID, I DID well, make with pics, Styx! | ||
