There are a few threads on that damn nut. I used a screw driver to keep it from spinning to get it off. Once off people have used glue and other things to hold the nut in place. I used an automotive style clip on captive nut to replace the stock item. I will try and post pics later. Its not very tight and can be held with hemostats or even by forcing a screwdriver against the flat of the nut/

I love the sound of the fan at shutdown. In fact, I go far enough on my jaunts to make sure the fan comes on when I pull up to my garage. I always look down at the oil temp dipstick to see if the gauge reads at least 150 F and then I know when I turn the key off the fan will come on. No condensation scum on my oil dipstick, and no worries about the rear cylinder cooking the oil at shutdown. Well done Buell. The only reason they came up with that other logic for the 08/10 bikes was because of all the whining fan haters. As Crusty and Terri once committed to t-shirts, "LOUD FANS SAVE LIVES".

Here's what I had to make:

I used the new screw and the lock nut when I did the comfort kit. I put it on with the pan off the bike so it was easy. When I went to put on the racing ecm I had to make a socket. I was a PITA without it.

Since I installed the Erik Buell Racing race ecm my machines been getting 47-51 mpg even in the cooler temps where it has to run rich longer to warm up. A couple weeks ago it seemed to be running a bit rough like the original ecm so half way to work I did a tps reset at a traffic light.Whoa! It did the trick and I had a smooth running machine again. I guess the seasonal temp change had a gradual effect.I had not done a reset since the day I put it in.The little bump in the fuel mileage gets me enough range now to go 4 days to work and back instead of 3 1/2. Hope to get a track day next year At Gratten or Blackhawk and ring it out a bit l8r bb

Erik Buell Racing race ecm on my machines took for first ride seem ok it did not speed up at starting as many have noted .I rode for 15 miles ..My 06 x has alway been a great runner pull up on rear wheel in 2nd always and 50 mpg on road .It seem much the same now not any real power gain and some rougher idle but maybe set in with time and learning .Yes i did a tps reset it is at 4.6 and 5.1 980 to 1000 rpm witch is little lower than stock ecm at same setting . when the weather is better will take for long ride and report on what it dose and mpg .I am not complaining i am just saying what it is like so far and maybe much better than i think .

The 06 will not get a cold idle bump - it does not have an AIS motor like the 08 and later bikes do. We 06 riders have the idle set cable under the left side scoop. Period. Hot, cold, whatever...that's all we have.

How did you do a TPS reset on an 06 without adjusting the idle??

If you did...you did it wrong.

1. Unscrew the idle set cable until the throttle *just* sticks when you open it off idle.

2. Open the throttle WOT, and let it SNAP back. (note - I always give it a light bump closed just to make sure).

3. Reset the TPS to 0.

4. Set the idle cable until you see the *recommended* baseline of 5.1

5. Start the bike. Ride the bike till warm. Adjust the idle until it is correct at 1050 - screw the V reading, it's a *baseline* value so you can start the bike, ride it, and warm it up in order to set the idle properly.

Follow up Since I installed the Erik Buell Racing race ecm . Today i took the bike for 3 hour ride and i am very happy with the way the bike runs .If your thinking on getting one buy it you will be happy with the way it make your buell run.It run a Little better from idle to top end and seem like the motor work less hard to run at 70 mph

I asked a question, then clarified the procedure was all.

Set the idle based on the IDLE, not on the READING. You should have a 1050 idle when warm, regardless of the V reading.

My post was prompted by

Yes i did a tps reset it is at 4.6 and 5.1 980 to 1000 rpm witch is little lower than stock ecm at same setting

which led me to believe you hadn't done a proper reset. I may have misread, your typing is hard to follow.

My apologies for attempting to help. Enjoy your new ECM.

You need to e-mail them. They generally go out within hours of the order being placed.

Have you contacted Erik Buell Racing since you placed the order?

If not . . . do.

How very true.

I wasn't even home from work yet, and already I had a tracking number for the brake rotor mounting kit I had ordered around lunch. This was last week; the kit is physically here now, just waiting for me to get some free time to put it all together.

And you're going to love the ECM...but research that front mounting nut. There are a number of solutions that folks have come up with...but no matter how you slice it, that nut is a PITA.

just sent another email to get an update. If anyone has a phone number they could pass me...? (cannot seem to find one on their website). Absolutely not bagging on Erik Buell Racing as I respect what they are trying to accomplish without the corporate anchor around their neck.

Send your email to tech@ebracing.com and you'll probably get an answer within the hour. That's been my experience.

I probably bounced six or eight random messages back and forth with tech@ today.

I believe their quote was "we're answering them in our sleep now"...to which I replied "who's letting you SLEEP?".

Long day, not enough coffee. All in good fun (and yes, they are human beings at that end of the email!).

Point is, though - they're good at email. But, you have to BE NICE and BE CONCISE. Use the English language properly, get right to the point, and they'll get right to the answer for you. They're good folks, but don't tell a story or make them dig for what they need.

I sent Erik Buell Racing an email on Thanksgiving Day and was not expecting a reply until at least Monday of the next week. To my surprise, I got a reply and a wish for a Happy Thanksgiving to me and my family from Erik Buell Racing an hour after I sent my question! As Ratbuell recommended, I kept my email short and to the point, unlike my ramblings here on BadWeb.

I now have an ECM on the way but will not install it until I get the bike out of storage in spring. Also, I will probably ride a couple weeks with the old ECM just to really get a feel for it and see if the new one makes any difference.

Banzai,
You'll need to download EcmSpy and purchase or make a dongle to connect your computer to the ULY computer port. EcmSpy has a TPS reset feature amongst many other tuning features. EcmSpy used to be a free download but I think you have to pay for it these days.
I think you can download it here:

http://www.ecmspy.com/download.shtml

There is a wealth of info on using EcmSpy here on BadWeb if you take the time to do a search. The link I gave above seems to contain a ton of info on using EcmSpy. Maybe someone else can chime in here that knows more about EcmSpy and how you go about getting it to your computer.
