It feels like shit! I had a great morning at the Inside Pass track day at the NJ Motorsports Park on Sunday. I prefer the other more technical track at this facility but I was getting my knees down and learning the track OK. It's a very fast track. We had a nice lunch and during the intermission I tightened up, was tired and my cold was really getting to me. I should have called it a day.... Second lap out, I'm passing 2 bikes clockwise on the outside 3/4 of the way through the banked big 180 sweeper chasing OdinBueller (on the right side of the track below). There's a rise at the exit of this turn that you can't see past. I pin the throttle as I exit but I'm way wide off my line since I passed those guys wide. I'm tucked in flat out and before I know it my front tire is off the track just past that kink. I pull it back on but the back gets messed up & I go into a tank slapper across the track. Next thing I know is I'm rolling and rolling and rolling and I'm thinking "my wife is gonna kill me". I came to a stop finally in the dirt across the track and jumped up. Nothing really hurt - I could hardly believe it. Bottom line is I have a 1" circle raspberry on my wrist, a puffy little finger, and a pretty swollen ankle. Thank GOD - I was very lucky. So now aside from feeling like an a$$hole, I'm just limping a bit. The bike didn't look too bad. Pod & sidecase were most of it. The 1125 can take a hit. My apologies to the blue riders and to Buell for red flagging the session. Interestingly enough they were red flagged a couple of more times in the next few minutes.
The track clean up crew was really great and so were the medics. The bike's still in the trailer. I'll tend to it in a few days and maybe take some pictures. |

Jon, Thanks. I don't think I'm gonna make it as long as you did. I've probably crashed dirt bikes hard 1000 times (without exaggerating) but stepping off at that speed really was a heart stopper. The clean up crew chief said he didn't think I was going to get up after seeing it happen. The more I think about it the more I see how lucky I was. |

Dude! I'm right there with you!!! 2nd to last session of the day Novice I'm coming out of turn 9...the big bowl before the main stretch. I'm hard on the gas, coming out about 60-80 and then hammer down and take main stretch wide to avoid slower bike. Wouldn't you know it....the guy drifts wide just crusing, he didn't need to, he wasn't going fast and not leaning, I was cranking it up to about 110 at this point and barley just uprighted myself to finish my turn and he cut me off!!! 110mph in the grass/gravel . You know who you are, you saw me off track, please ride in the future like you not the only one out there . Any how, back on track, crazy wobble from getting back on at 110 (just off edge of track a little bit), straigtened her out and called it a day Love the track!!! I've been on Las Vegas and pocono, this NJ track is great!!! |

Glad your not in to much pain JG. The same thing happened to me in the A group in the same spot. I got pushed wide and next thing I know, I'm doing 110 in the dirt. The bars were shaking like a wet dog. I luckily got it back on the track and held it wide open down the strait. Then later on turn one had other plans for me. The front washed going in and next thing I know, I'm sliding across the pavement thinking I should let go of the bike. two hundred feet later and a couple of tumbles, I came to a stop in the pea gravel. Lets do it again next year! |

Glad to see you're ok. We were in a group rolling up behind you. We saw a cloud of dirt and then you and your bike sliding across the track. Could have been much worse for sure. |

It's good to hear you are ok and walked away, that's what's important. Take care of yourself. See you at the track! Walt |

Well, I took it easy yesterday and today I'm barely limping at all. I've got a little blue tinge around my ankle but the swelling is down some. My frigging cold is making me feel worse than my accident! I really lucked out. I told my wife that I low sided at 20 MPH... She still says that was my last one... |

I dropped my M2 at around 85mph at Blackhawk farms 2 years ago. My wife was at the track and noticed all the bikes came back except mine. Next thing she saw was the ambulance I was in and the pieces of my bike coming back to the Jeep. 14 stitches and a long 2.5 hour ride home was what I got. She cringes at the thought of me ever going back to a track, so I bought a dual purpose Yamaha XT600. I tolder her it was slower, and the dirt was much softer then the concrete... |

Sean, I'd love to see that video again. I checked to see if the track day photos were up yet but they weren't. I wonder if they were taking any along the straight when I went down. http://www.myinsidepass.com/ |

Dude, that totally sucked. When they said there was a crash, and then they said it was one of "our guys", that was really scary. And it seemed to take forever for you to get back! We were all worried. SO glad it turned out to be not too bad. But you had fun right up until that last few seconds though, right? Hope the wife isn't too hard on you. Personally, I know how she feels. One of the hazards of marrying someone who rides motorcycles - the worrying I mean. But, men who ride are men who ride. Nothing to be done really. ->chelleM |
