Well today I expanded my motorcycle horizon.

The guy who waxes the floors at the shop and I always bs about bikes, He is your ride it fast down the freeway on a Busa, I am a corner junkie. So today he pulls in on his 08 Busa, asked a couple questions about tires etc... I wash up and sit on the bike for a feel and he said to go for a spin.

Pulled out of the shop, take it easy to 3rd gear and rolling about 65(speed limit on the 5 lane road I work off is 55) I come up on a slower car and decide to pass. I have a clear shot for about 1/2 mile so I gas it, pass the car, look in the mirror and the car is WAAAAYYY back there, look at the speedo and it was indicating 140mph!!! It was really too easy, and too smooth, too effortless.

So my test drive loop contains a pretty twisty residential section with decent sight lines through the corners, and pretty good tight turns to boot. The bike handles very well considering it weighs 500 lbs. Lean over, roll on and again, next freaking thing I know I am back at 100mph!!!

My last adventure was a 0 to the top of second(well almost top). I got straight, let go of the clutch and ran up through first, clicked second, ran to about 8k and sure enough I was going over 110mph in less than 4 counted seconds!!!!

All I can say is WOW. I am still giggling like a little kid! I know I still dont possess the self control needed for one of these machines, but dang do I want one!

Sounds similar to my experience on a turbo Busa. Yeah, crazy.

I rode my buddies hopped-up busa a few weeks ago. Fine scoot, but scared the shiznit out of me. Took her down a few twisties. It felt like I was flying a F-22 in a hanger.

I've only sat on one at a show, and I got the crazy notion they'd make a cool sport tourer. It was really comfy... much more so than the Firebolts I butt-tested.

You can select a less powerful mode via a switch on the control block, but to me that is admitting something I am loathe to admit.

Amazing motorcycles - busas and several like it - ZX14, F4, Vee Max even.

Instant disqualification speed is now 85mph in NZ.

Nanna will be coming soon to a lot of the world near you.

There's a guy I see on a regular basis who is about 70, he has NOS installed on his Busa. I find this pretty ridiculous. Where are you going to use that much speed?

I would end up a statistic on one of those things. Bad enough I have a Bolt.

Dave, I'm assuming that switch is like a "Fuel Economy" and "Performance" mode? That's kinda' cool... never heard of one on a bike.

Yup, I ignored the switch.

You pretty much have 3 maps stored in the ECU, and the switch lets you decide what one is best suited for the riding you are doing.

LOL, Buell needs one of those switches. Maybe one of the three positions could be "non-surging".

busas are fast, and the zx14 is faster. i have friends with both. but if you want insane fast, try to hang on to this thing...

it never quits pulling. the harder it pulls the harder it pulls, and on and on.

Thanks for the review.

Ever since I looked on Progressive.com and saw that I can now afford the insurance, I have been contemplating a 'Busa. Back in '93 I had an 1100 Katana that I loved. It was comfortable, good looking, and incredibly powerful. I am thinking a 'Busa would be something I want to own for a year or so.

I love my Cyclone, but I don't keep any bikes for very long before I move on. Maybe I would find a way to swing both though.

I think I need to find someplace to take a test ride.

I actually like the way they look...but then again, I like the side pods on the 1125r too.

Tim ZX14'S are faster then the 08 or even 09 Busa's??? Not according to all the magazines. The 14 bumped king Busa off its pirch in 07. This year the Busa regained his thrown.

That's the Y2K, yes? I've seen two of them here in PDX (and you get plenty of time to set yourself up for a good view because you can hear those suckers coming down the boulevard from about a mile away).

PS: Having been reminded of the Y2K's existence, I don't want to hear any Beuller complaining ever again about engine heat.

i know im always wrong. nothing could ever out run a busa and an 1125 could never out run a gixxer.

No_rice, WTF is that thing?

lol yep its an alien. or better yet it is(last i knew) in the guiness book of world records as the fastest and most expensive production bike made.

its a Y2K http://www.marineturbine.com/motorcycles.asp

it is just insane. doesnt really corner worth a crap, but who cares when its one of these.

in all honesty it really isnt that bad, i think unless you are standing behind this thing, my 1125 throws off more heat...

Ahh come on Tim..... just messing with ya. But realistic. A 1125R out run a Gixxer 1000 ??? Heres a quote from Cycle worlds test of the Busa.

This is directly from the Cycle World February 2008 issue page 33 sidebar article....quote "Tipping our scales at 552lbs without fuel, the new bike weighs 20 more lbs than last years. On the Cycle World dyno, the 08 busa put down peak numbers of 171.4 horsepower at 9650 rpm and 102.0 foot-pounds of torque at 7200 rpm. Thats nearly a dozen more ponies than its predecessor-and 1.2 more than the last Kawasaki ZX-14 we tested. Measured top speed as you may have guessed is limited to 186 mph. But it gets there quicker than ever, setting a new CW production-bike-best quarter-mile pass of 9.70 seconds at 148.48 mph along the way."

I saw Jay Leno riding one on the Tee-Vee several years ago. You could see a roostertail of heat shimmering behind it. He said, perhaps jokingly (perhaps not), that it would melt the bodywork off any car that got in too tightly behind him at a stoplight. That's probably an exaggeration since it doesn't leave a streak of goo behind it from the boiling rear tire, but I wouldn't want to get too close to those exhaust ports.

It will melt body work on a car. Seen it done by Leno on TV. Also see one in Daytona years ago. When he started it he asked everyone behind to stand aside.

Has anyone yet verified the actual top speed of the Y2K? All I've heard is claimed figures.

it has been clocked at 227 but that was awhile ago.

it becomes very interesting when we ride it to a bike night or something. no matter how many times you tell people not to go behind it no one listens. burn the hairs off of their legs in a split second and they dont forget lol.

one of the jet bikes we built torched a big hole in some brand new black top when we had it in the weld racing booth in daytona. we kept pulling it out and starting it up every so often and it didnt take long to see right where we were doing it at.
