Thats exactly my point Paul, why take the fun out of riding? I dont want to ride around visualizing every nasty death that could take me. Would I ride safer? Maybe, would it be worth it? No. |

+1, Jeremy. I feel lucky to have survived my childhood after all. 2 of my favorite sayings: "ATTGATT", Y'ALL!!! and, kudos to the Honda guy who said "STUPID HURTS". That pic of dude just hangin by his neck was muy morbidoso> |

"Ignorance is bliss right up until it isn't." There's a Ratbert cartoon out there that riffs that. What if we combined a video collage of this stuff and built an "Indian burn" device for the kids/squids, demonstrating the skin to pizza potential? |

RIP Noriuke Abe. (Up and coming roadracer, killed when a woman turned her car into his path whilst riding his scooter back in Japan.) Think about that. And does anyone know if he was wearing his gear, more details? (Message edited by 86129squids on January 21, 2008) |

I have no intention of looking at those pics. The ONLY purpose is show and tell. We could be killed riding or sleeping. Pictures like that are of no constructive value. My thoughts, here to edify you. |

above all that guy hanging out of the truck's rear door is stupid. He may be wearing gear, he may be on a metric bike...but judging from the way the bottom rail (truck bumper???) is bent into the truck he had to be well over 100 mph to cause such damage to a industrial truck like that one. Had he had the smarts to avoid racing his buddy on the streets this might not have happened. Everyone does know that racing on the street is a bad idea right? especially the damn expressway. |

That scooter video gives me the willies. I've been knocked off just like that sitting in a turn lane. Thank God is was a Civic doing <10 mph, and not a truck! ~SM |

If everyone wears gear and rides safe, where will we get the cool pictures from ? Anyone seen the guy who actually rode through a drive-thru on his bike ? |

ouch, and here i am trying to justify not buying a new jacket (since all *five* of my jackets are either in shipment from china, or in storage in milwaukee - all en route to me here in cali). i do have my suomy, and just bought some alpine star gloves.... but i dont want to spend another $400 on a jacket its the only one i found locally that i like - a ladies alpinestar stella. i just hate to spend the money since i have 2 H-D, 2 vanson, 1 teknic already!!! ugh. choices. i haven't always made the best ones, and perhaps, its actually a mixed blessing that its going to rain the next 10 days - its like a cooling off period for me to think about my gear problem.... After this thread and another as well as very inky riding conditions (I'm a daily commuter), I broke down and bought a Hi-Viz Yellow Olympia Motorsports Vest for $70 at my local BMW dealership. Now I don't have much money for the rest of the month, BUT I feel better about my visibility. Now at least, I have another safety gear choice when I go out for a ride. I actually think it looks great! I rode past several storefronts to see my reflection in the tinted windows. Hex |

Anyone seen the guy who actually rode through a drive-thru on his bike ? That the one where they found [just] his foot in the ceiling? Darwinism exists in all walks of life. We are not *that* special... |

"Hello my name is Jeremy. I am a gear addict." "hellooo jeremy" I have one Darien Jacket, two mesh jackets, a cordura jacket, and a leather jacket. I use a full padded pair of Darien Pants for everything. I am working to be able to go have a set of leathers made. I always wear boots, pants, jacket, dainese back protector, gloves (helmet given), and will occasionally wear a Mil-Spec Hi-Viz vest over the rest of my gear. I don't ride my bike to go to the mall or to work because there is simply no way to wear all of that AND show up looking like anything useful. I am always looking for more protective gear. When I have extra cash, I spend it on gear first, performance mods third. (Tires second. ) I don't know if it will make a difference, but I know if the worst happens that I'll have all the gear on and will get to test it out. Smacking into the side of a hill within the first 600 miles of returning to street riding will change your thinking. Walking away with only a little soreness because I WAS ATGATT has confirmed my changed thinking is correct. Buellgirlie, can you have someone get into your storage and send you your gear? |
