Well the last 2 weeks have been interesting... Work finally found me... which has taken WAY too much of my play time away, and things have slowed down a bit, but still moving foreword-ish, My friends warehouse I had my lift in is most likely going to be rented out & made into a godforsaken laser tag joint Him & I are going to be "evicted" by his dad soon So....The PMX build is moving into my...ahem...."dining room"... As I am not one of the blessed, that own a garage It turns out that the intake valves are bent, I'm sure this was the reason for the tear down in the first place. I have not had time to mess with the motor so the root cause is yet to be determined. I did get some plating & polishing back the other day....DAAAAM he is SLOW.... but all looks incredible!!! The header looks incredible, it was a mess when I sent it out, I cant wait till it takes on it's golden hue, I may just throw it on my S2 & burn it in. I have been waiting 2 weeks for my tires & a bunch of other stuff from Chapparell... which I canceled today they are the worst!! Price isn't everything. Calling DK tomorrow. Sunday I am leaving to go to the Masters, so there goes another wk... I hope to start assembly when I return. Ride Safe, Chris (Message edited by k12pilot on April 05, 2013) |

Wow! Some of that metal is definitely over-restored but, the bike will look outstanding when it's assembled. Amazing work. Bummer about the valves but, hardly the end of the world. |

Over restored..yea..possibly..but with the oxidized cancer that was on the aluminum, there was no middle line. I could have bought new covers... but I wanted to keep orig parts on the bike. They will settle down nicely. To anyone that has a parts manual for these bikes, can you please let me know the tooth count on the front & rear sprockets?? I want to make sure they are correct. And even better, if you could scan a few pages for me?? Thanks Ride Safe, Chris |

The header looks incredible, it was a mess when I sent it out, I cant wait till it takes on it's golden hue, I may just throw it on my S2 & burn it in. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the RS/RSS header will not fit an S2. The widening of the frame on the S2 (to accommodate the belt drive) puts the frame tubes dangerously close to the rear header pipe. From what I recall, you wouldn't even be able to get the rear header inlet up to the port in the rear head without contacting the offending frame tube. It's awesome to see things progressing! 1313 |

Parts book says the rear is P/N G0331.44 and it's stamped on the one rear sprocket I have handy from a '92 RS. Coincidentally, it has 44 teeth. The front is P/N G0331.21. I don't have one handy (or not behind a cover), but it might be safe to assume it's got 21 teeth. BTW: The parts are gleaming! Observation: Those handlebars look tall! It looks like the wiring runs inside the bars, as it does on mine, VS in a groove on the exterior. |

Dennis, Thanks, that is what I have 21/44. There is a groove for the wires to set in. I'm at the airport on way to the Masters. I'll have to check them against my S2 spare sets both std & touring when I return from play time. Side notes: Trying to do a factory restoration WITHOUT the manuals or the factory at my disposal is a challenge for sure. A no holes barred custom build is/would be for sure MUCH easier. I am trying to keep my "coloring" inside the lines as much as humanly possible with the limited resources & data I have. The bike will never be totally as factory, but with the ocd I have with all my toys, it will be very close. I am basically averaging out all the pictures I have acquired from the net, either media pix, owner bikes and from other inmates that shared, to use as my reference.. There is one picture from an advertisement (I would guess, Dave G. could confirm this) out there with about 6 diff views of the RS naked which is my best source of virgin detailed pics. I am very happy about how things are coming together & progressing, especially this being my first bike restoration/build. Not an easy bike to start out with. Almost every bike I see has differences. This bike will also. I am confident I will be happy with the outcome, I'm sure you will be also. Ride Safe, Chris |

Holy crap… It's been a MONTH….man… time passes fast Workin blows, plus my side biz is in season PMX…. Forks & shock at Race Tech, almost done.. Bolt plating should be back any day now.. Still waiting on cylinders & heads… I'm hoping friday… Than I can start on the motor.. Everything else is ready to go I want to have everything at hand before the assembly begins. I picked up a couple complete sets of S2 body work, I am going to fab them up like left coastal had on his RS for the time being. Until I can determine authenticity of body work that came with the bike, I am not going to deal with it right now. At this point I don't think it will make S2 rally in June. But been working on my S2 just in case… Shock & forks at race tech also Dyna single fire Mikuni carb Oil cooler Front brake line Engine/Frame brace Kick stand bend Misc plating also went out with PMX stuff. As far as the RSS…. Its on the way from Colorado, it will be here on Saturday It is the Fat one on the right, on the left is another S2 (Message edited by k12pilot on May 28, 2013) |

Ok, So long story short… Been working doubles here… Smooth twisties for those who can guess where… Longer story short… Went to pick up my bottom end a few weeks ago for the PMX.. The Jack Wagon built the wrong one After quite a pissin match I took my bottom end with me… Tryin to find someone else to do the job, have some leads but not close & no time to get there. So I have been working on the S2 & the preservation of the RSS. Here is how she showed up.. It didn't take more than 2 hrs before I started into her.. Whats missing in this pic?? Header was trash from a lay down not useable.. but.. got out the Tig.. hint the muffler was missing.. broken off at the mounting tab I will continue tomorrow, gotta go to work now

In case you don't know, that muffler is a standard, 17" Supertrapp "universal." I just found one on Ebay because I'm going to need one for the RR. If yours is too beat up, just buy a new one and use the old one as a patter for tab position, etc. |

I have a brand new NOS muffler that I bought when I broke my original. By the time it came, I'd had the broken one welded and just kept using it. My original header broke near the head where the snap ring is. Had it welded too. (Message edited by Rich on June 29, 2013) |

Th RSS was reborn yesterday. After 9 years of being dormant. Motor runs beautiful. I just wish D K sent me the right chain. I want to ride it. All cables changed. All oil lines changed. All bearings changed. Chain tensioner changed. Carb totally rebuilt. Fresh Pilot Road 3's Brake fluid flushed. Brake pads changed. Old oil will be flushed a couple times than to synthetic |

Ok gents, Since my last update in this thread I have clocked 3k+ miles on the RSS It really is a joy to ride. If I don't screw up the links here are some pix to pick up where left off….. alot has gone on behind the scenes during this time on the RSS & the S2 that is on the table. Wheels off for tire mounting Forks swapped out with the ones race tech built I repaired the damaged fairing from when the PO dropped the bike. All the body work was wet sanded in my pool, with a few cold ones close by… I can't think of a better way the knee panels were in really bad shape when I got the bike, but came out awesome, the rest of the body is in fairly good shape, aside from a couple scratches & chips here & there I will call it patina. My garage for the time… Reassembly begins… Time to ride Hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I did. (Message edited by k12pilot on September 26, 2013) |
