There is a kit for this, but it's usually used for the newer XB-based mutant choppers. I can't remember the name of the company who makes it, but he makes component kits for the Redneck Engineering Chopper kits. |

dont do it. it will not turn out as good as you hope. what are you hoping to gain anyway? if you want some more info on how well it goes look up daves. they tried it. messed with it for a long time and it didnt turn out well. they also had ALOT more resources then i am guessing you will. |

Dude, if you want a Blast, buy a Blast. XB's are all about the tech. You want a low tech bike, go get one of those old school new Triumphs or something. You'll never get to be as fast as Chucky if you fnck your bike all up. |

I'm thinking about doing this too. Get away from all the electronics for better reliability and to make repairs more user friendly. That and lower the primary gear ratio a tad. After warrantee expires, of course. Think about it- no BAS. No ECM. A Dyna ignition and S and S carb. Do they make a downdraft? |

Dude, if you want a HD cruiser, buy a FDLHCHBXVRABCD Super Duper Xtra Astro Glide or something. The XB isn't a PanHead or a Knucklehead. |

Wow! The new models are out? Ask Cityxslicker if they have one of those in stock! I'm pretty sure he only has one of the FXDLFGULRHUEFNEAHCARUENC Mega Wide Super Duper Low Rider Glider Classics right now, but Harley is shipping bikes again, so if you're patient. . . |

No Old_man, neither the "FDLHCHBXVRABCD Super Duper Xtra Astro Glide" or the "FXDLFGULRHUEFNEAHCARUENC Mega Wide Super Duper Low Rider Glider Classic" has a magneto as standard equipment. |

Your getting away from Reliability with the carb system. Why do you think they invented Electronic Fuel Injection. Right amount of Fuel, Right amount of Air, Engine longevity. Just keep it in check and with some Electronical, Computer knowledge (not much) you got one of the most reliable bikes out there. |

Perhaps a Folgers can for that old school oil bag? Maybe you could modify a traditional fuel tank to work as well. Carbs are nothing more than moderately controlled fuel leaks. |

I just finished a similar project on my XB... started with a carb, and then the project just snowballed. I especially like how the seat turned out. Changing the frame was a real pain, but I used an old-school file and a grinding wheel a little bit each day... No school like old school!! Okay so it lost some of the cornering ability, but this baby is SHWEET!

Crap, that means we forgot the I at the end of the designation! So that would be a "FDLHCHBXVRABCDI Super Duper Xtra Astro Glide" and a "FXDLFGULRHUEFNEAHCARUENCI Mega Wide Super Duper Low Rider Glider Classic" |

Xbullett, It's your bike, do what you want. Return to a simpler way of life. Peak performance may suffer but your overall chances of returning from a ride will increase with decreasing complexity. Getting rid of the fuel pump will be your biggest hurdle as the tank is lower than the carb and it is probably the most prone to failure of the components you listed. Electronics are great until they fail, slightest failure and you are walking. I would suggest an external fuel pump so you can change by side of road and just carry a spare. Snowmobile carbs are all downdraft. This project should be doable but you will have to think outside the box some. Set your goals and take a shot, we all do and I think most will wish you well. I've thought about it a time or two traveling some backroad 100 miles from nowhere. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. |

madduck's thinkin' and mine are a lot alike. i guess it's the hot rodder in me. what got me thinkin' was brian fuller's fueller. he has a carb by...hell, i don't remember their name. but they do snowmobile carbs, and have moved into the motorcycle market. it's one of those jobs with a master jet system. three clicks on an external screw and you go up a jet size. quick and easy instead of changing jets when ya go to the mountains. i still have a lot of research to do, but i may go with it IF i like what i learn. till then, it's with the EFI and try to keep up with charlie. carbs rock, if you can find a decent downdraft setup that looks like it would work well, and that's what you really want, go for it man! I still haven't rode an XB that has the pleasing throttle feel and grunt of my M2, and even with the race can, etc. they are barely even top-end power wise. All my tuber has is bolt in cams a muffler and minor carb work. The xb's do seem to get a bit better fuel mileage, I average 45, with a best of 50 mpg. |

does the RR run on EFI or a carb? |

RR runs a twin EFI set up. As for Carbing a XB... Unless you plan on putting a 88incher in there leave the EFI on. The EFI is great for stock or slightly modded engines and unless you are going to go thru the trouble of doing something like a BIG bore it will not be worth the hassle. While still in Iowa and before the XB12's, him and his crew put a 1200 kit in a XB9r and tried to carb it. I am not sure if they ever got all the kinks out or not but it sure wasn't a two day project... |

I'm a big fan of no electronics as well. My XB cutout a few times one ride home with no explanation to be found, but has never done it again. Stupid computer stuff...when it works it's great, but when it doesn't, you're SOL. I believe Kinsler makes some mechanical injection stuff for V-twins. That's the way I would go if I had the $$$ to blow on it. |
